Next require a Senior Systems Engineer to perform a mixture of support and development activities predominately based at Next's warehousing complex in South Elmsall, Pontefract but occasionally requiring work in and around other UK based sites, including Warehouses at Wath-on-Dearne and Next's Head Office based in Leicester.

You will be confident in owning & taking a technical lead to determine the creation & delivery of technical solutions and play an active role in deciding systems policies. The role includes but is not limited to proactive monitoring, second line fault diagnosis and resolution, disaster recovery, problem resolution, upgrades to existing Windows based servers and systems, implementing and checking backups, anti-virus deployment and monitoring, auditing of environment and computer rooms and maintaining environmental records. Ensuring solutions are implemented in harmony with the existing environment and minimising disruption to the user community is essential.

Development activities include delivery of server platforms and solutions to underpin Warehouse operational, automation and reporting services. You will use physical and virtualised server platforms, deploy office solutions including Citrix Presentation Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office and file services.

In addition the successful candidate will take part in a weekly callout rota. Overtime and some shift changes are expected as many systems can only be installed or changed outside of normal business hours. The Technical Services Team operates a shift pattern covering the hours 08:00am – 6:00pm. Some extended cover can be expected to cover operational peaks.

Responsibilities

The hours for this role are normal business hours and occasionally some out of hours working. It is intended that after a suitable period the successful candidate will provide callout support with the rest of the team.
