What is a RSS feed?

Some people say RSS means really simple syndication. Well maybe it is really simple but a lot of people have trouble comprehending what it is and if they need it. To wrap your mind around a new concept sometimes it’s best to compare it to something your already know about.

It’s kind of like using email and bookmarks at the same time. It’s better than email in the sense you don’t have to give out your email to get information mailed to you. Also when you like a site you’re visiting (like mine for example you would bookmark it. The trouble is after having hundreds of bookmarks it gets messy.

By using an RSS feed, you can subscribe to a web page and be notified when it has something new to look at it and it will even put that information in your browser for you to read. Sort of like the web coming to you on your terms after you set it up. It’s really not that hard as the video below will show and it is only going to get much bigger in use.

As you get over the learning curve it can make your web experience easier and faster.

Newbies Beware!

Hello and sorry about the dramatic blog title. This is a topic you don’t see too often mentioned other than on a back page of eBay. The other day I helped a person get there first eBay and PayPal account.

About a week later I noticed they were getting “spoof” emails almost constantly. A spoof email is an email that looks official. Like someone from eBay is contacting you to file a complaint or threatening to leave bad feedback. I must admit that the email looked pretty good. I knew it was a fake but someone new to the eBay and PayPal system might think it is official and respond. If you click on the email it takes you to a fake eBay or PayPal login page.

These people are trying to capture your ID and password on their fake web page. There are different names for this process but what you need to remember is NEVER click on a link in an email from eBay or PayPal unless you know exactly where the email is from or what it is about. I don’t care if it looks like the chairman of the board of eBay is coming after you with a battery of lawyers if you don’t respond immediately.

Believe me if there is a problem you will know about it when you log in like you always do, through your own browser. But in 6 or 7 years of working with eBay I’ve never had a problem. They will let you know if there is a problem and you simply contact them on your own not through a link.

I think as the “crooks” get a little sneakier you will see better and better looking fraud emails. It’s nothing to be worried about, just remember to never respond to link through email no matter how official or time sensitive it appears.

And this shouldn’t damper your enthusiasm for building your eBay business. It’s just a gentle reminder that as you start your business there might be people looking for newbies to rip off.
You just delete or report the spoof to eBay if you wish.

Here is a cool widget of code that you can get from eBay. It is showing all the current fender guitar amplifiers that are in “watch this item”. Apparently showing the most popular. I just started working with this code, I will report back on the different possibilities in using it. Run your mouse over the pics and watch them get larger, very cool!

“What to Sell” on eBay

When it comes to selling on eBay tangible products I would suggest starting off with what is in your closet, under the bed, in the garage, etc.

You know that “thing” you no longer use but it’s too nice for a yard sale. You can be surprised what some of these things bring on eBay.
If you already own it, it’s almost all profit when you sell since you would like to have it go anyway. You will know everything about it or at least something about it. This is important if a prospective buyer asks questions.

Remember, we want to keep this simple so you can learn and stay with it.

Now if you found a source for a product then great, if not, don’t worry that will come in time. Let’s get good at selling and product sourcing will just fall into place, you’ll see.

Want to get started selling online? Best place to start is eBay…why? eBay has got the traffic…plain and simple.

You see, this is the first thing you need with any online business…Traffic makes the whole internet commerce world go ’round…Imagine for a second.

You go out and rent a brick and mortar store and you are going to sell widgets to the widget people. Now 90% of the widget people either go downtown or to the malls to get their widgets.

Where would you want your widget store to be? That’s right…you guessed it, downtown or at the mall… Just so happens eBay IS the mall and downtown put together…
It is estimated that over 63 million people cruise through eBay in a month….

So this is a big plus in your favor AND eBay has made it very simple for you to get started selling with them. It’s too easy to pass up…So in my mind this is the best place to start and then later on when you get more experience under your belt you can branch out. Or you may find that eBay is all the business you need. Many people have found this to be true…………………
