Taking Melbourne and Beyond

>
Melbournebeats.com presents Taking in Melbourne and Beyond. Melbournebeats.com is a music based community forum that talks all things beats related. Among the music talent on the board, other talents started to emerge such as design, photography, writing etc. This exhibition is a representation of just some of that talent on the photography front. Taking in Melbourne and Beyond is all things what Melbourne means to the photographer. A glimpse of the city we live in and love and always come home to even after being away. Some of the members have recently travelled or currently live overseas, and wanted to show some of their experiences and impressions of the beyond. This exhibition proves yet again that music brings people together and is such an important aspect of Melbourne and its culture. Music is all, rock on.

The photographers exhibiting are the likes of:

Lynt (Karl Stanton) who has exhibited before in group shows and his own show on his amazing shots of New York, show casing Uptown, Downtown, Coney Island, Empire State, Wall St, Central Park and pavement pounding missions on the block. http://www.karlstanton.com

Ghetto Kitty (Bo Ghetto) who is the creator of 4Walls Gallery, semi famous for the international bondage baby takeover and other strange art forms, her passion for art knows no bounds. www.ghettokitty.com.au

Lizkins (Elizabeth Lugg) who is generally running the organisation of this show, along with Ghetto Kitty. Liz found a passion for photography a number of years back and has hit the pavement on numerous missions around Melbourne and overseas. She recently was a finalist in a Canon photography competition, and this is her first exhibition.
Signs of Life

>
Opening Event 6:00pm Friday 11th February, Showing until Sunday 28th February 2011 No Vacancy Gallery Project Space The Atrium, Federation Square More than a decade ago Matt ‘ADNATE’ first picked up a spray can, sparking a flow of creativity that has never been blocked. Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Matt ‘ADNATE’ has bared witness to one of the most avant-garde street art capitals of the world. He has contributed to the scene through scores of graffiti murals. In recent years his street works can be seen in New York, Paris, Berlin and more. His art has also been landing in galleries, including a Spanish Council sponsored exhibition in Barcelona. In January, 2010, Matt ‘ADNATE’ drew a 500+ crowd at his first solo exhibition ‘Demand Attention’ at No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne. ‘Demand Attention’ explored elements of life, beauty, the environment and urban decay. The standout piece of which was a thought provoking, two-meter tall wild-style wooden crucifix. One year on, his next solo show ‘Signs of Life’ is located in the heart of Melbourne’s Federation Square at the No Vacancy Gallery Project Space. This time round Matt ‘ADNATE’ has pushed himself further by focusing on portraiture, fusing raw street textures with classic illustration techniques and mediums. This has taken his clash between graffiti and fine art to the next level. “I obsess over clashing graffiti, one of the most hated and loved art forms in the world, with fine art,” says Matt ‘ADNATE’. “Most people would never expect to see ‘tags’, the rawest element of graffiti, fused with fine art style portraits.” Growing up as a graffiti artist, Matt ‘ADNATE’ has always seen art on the street from a different point of view. To him, all forms of graffiti, including ancient works, are all ‘Signs of Life’. “People have told story’s by making marks on walls for thousands of years. It lets people know they are alive and in turn has helped ancient cultures survive. If graffiti/street art didn’t happen, we would never know these people even exist.” 2011 is guaranteed to be a big year for Matt ‘ADNATE’, with his next exhibition locked in for Berlin, Germany. Be sure to stay tuned as he takes on the world’s contemporary art scene armed with brushes, spray cans, hacksaws and a bachelor in graffiti art.

FEIYUE AUSTRALIAN LAUNCH

> Originating in Shanghai, the Feiyue sneaker first appeared in the 1920s. In 2005, a group of French sneaker aficionados took over the brand and re-worked the entire production process to create a new visual identity. In 2011 the footwear anomaly that went from a disappearing Chinese icon to Europe’s item du jour makes its official Australian debut.
For their recent launch events across Asia, Feiyue invited several Asian based artists to create mobile art installations inspired by their shoes. Participating artists include shoe customizers SBTG and Hypethetic, interactive design studio Arcade, creative agency Assembly, graphic artist Mojoko, and illustrators Mindflyer and Zxerokool. In their ongoing spirit of creative collaboration, four Australian artists have been invited to create their own Feiyue reinventions to exhibit alongside the Asian installations at the Australian Launch this February. Australian artists involved are Brisbane artist Haw and Drewfunk, Tom Vincent and Prizm all from Melbourne.
All artists have been given total creative freedom to reinterpret the Chinese born, French owned sneaker brand.
The Feiyue Australian launch event also features an installation of ARO - an exhibition of artworks and wooden sculptures by French artist and Feiyue collaborator Steph.Cop

Acid Over Easy by Zach Johnsen

>
Backwoods Gallery is pleased to announce Acid Over Easy, a solo show by Zach Johnsen featuring the continuation of the explosive “Acid in the Ice Cream” series. Acid Over Easy is a frenetic show of new works on paper exploring a break in habits of everyday man and woman.

Artist Zach Johnsen presents all new drawings in graphite and watercolor of human forms in moments of suspended movement and anxiety .. capturing continuous explosive moments on one piece of paper.

Acid Over Easy is a world of 9 to 5ers in moments of pure revelation. It is a real estate agent confronted by spirits that just became visible. It is hidden energies that tug at the back of the neck.

It is psychadelic purple drink in the water cooler. It is sudden moments of inspiration. It is the catalyst that makes time stand still for a moment. It is getting in touch with nature for the first time.

It is the realization that the monotonous routines of day to day living isn’t all there is to experience.. that there is so much power within ourselves and all around us just waiting for us to notice….

The Acid trip continues…

Zach Johnsen

Zach Johnsen is a Portland, Oregon based multidisciplinary artist and designer working in graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, and mixed media on paper. His work is figurative, depicting people and characters in various states of motion, often times exploding or morphing.

His work is frenetic in nature.. an explosion of lines and color influenced by infomercials, cartoons, sweets and the over consumption of popular culture. Zach now lives in Portland, OR where he operates www.zenvironments.com as well as hatching his next moves on the art world.

www.zachjohnsen.com
