Labor Union Endorses Hermann

The Central Labor Council of Southern Indiana, an Evansville-based umbrella group of local unions, announced today that it endorses Nicholas Hermann as their candidate of choice for Vanderburgh County Prosecutor. The Central Labor Council represents approximately 12,000 members in southwestern Indiana in a variety of local unions.

Already the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 and the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police have endorsed Hermann. The local FOP claims more than 600 active members among current and retired law enforcement officers. Approximately 14,000 members make up the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police.

For over two decades the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office has been as much a burden to the victims of crime as it has to the police officers, probation officers, and advocates who work to achieve justice for them. The citizens of Vanderburgh County deserve more than lip service, empty promises and inaction. The citizens of Vanderburgh County deserve a new prosecutor.

Crime in Vanderburgh County, Vol 2

The Hermann for Prosecutor campaign released today “Crime in Vanderburgh County: How Stan Levco is Failing Our Community, Volume 2” (pdf), which is the second installment to highlight some of the egregious cases and mis-steps to come out of Stan Levco’s office recently. These cases will shock and upset you, but it is the reality which victims and officers face each day.

This first edition garnered significant press coverage, including this article from the Courier & Press regarding Richard Barnes Jr. Following a plea deal from Stan Levco’s office which let Barnes off without jail time for felony burglary, Barnes was once again arrested for another crime, this time for the incestuous rape of his teenage relative.

Hermann Announces Candidacy

Evansville Attorney, Nicholas Hermann, has announced that he is challenging Stanley Levco, for Vanderburgh County Prosecutor. Hermann cited Levco’s lack of efficiency and accountability as reasons for being encouraged to run for office.

Nicholas Hermann is an attorney practicing primarily in criminal and family law. He was the Republican nominee for Prosecuting Attorney in 2006 and formerly served as a Deputy Prosecutor for Vanderburgh County.

Nick’s wife, Gina, works for Mead Johnson Nutrition in the human resources department. Together they have a young son named Lucas, who represents the seventh generation of their family to call Evansville home. Hermann’s family came to Evansville in the mid-1800’s and started one of the first ten businesses in the City of Evansville when they opened Hermann’s Candy Store on Main Street in Downtown Evansville.

Nicholas was raised in Evansville and attended Dexter Elementary School, Holy Rosary School, and is a graduate of Memorial High School. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Ball State University and earned his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis.

Nicholas and his family are members of St. Benedict Cathedral and are active members of the community.

Hermann believes the prosecutor’s office needs a change. “We have some of the finest law enforcement in the region, but we need an effective prosecutor’s office to match it.”
