This coming Saturday, 18 July, Nick is going to be giving a gallery tour at KINDL, Berlin in connection with the current show, An Intimacy with Strangers. Curated by Simon Faithfull and featuring the work of Peggy Atherton, David Claerbout, Marcus Coates, Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson, Tacita Dean, Folke Köbberling, Giuseppe Penone, Pope.L, Nika Radić, Jessica Segall, Uýra Sodoma, Zheng Bo, this group exhibition explores the relationships and entanglements between human and non-human life.

Kunst von Hier

We are taking part in the second edition of Kunst von Hier at the Heimatmuseum in Dahme/Mark. This time the show has a theme, namely the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Freibad (open air swimming pool) in Dahme. Our contribution to the show is a short animation entitled Maxpool_yart, which features the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximillian I, drifting around in what appears to be a pool of blood. VLADA showing in Bildräume der Solidarität

This June we're delighted showing the latest version of VLADA in Bildräume der Solitarität at Villa Heike, Berlin.

In a time of increasing social inequality, ecological crises, and political polarization, the question of solidarity is becoming more urgent once again. Where do people stand up for others or for a cause? Where do alliances and shared goals emerge? And when does an expression of solidarity actually become solidarity? The exhibition Image Bildräume der Solidarität (Image Spaces of Solidarity) brings together artistic works that approach these questions in different ways. They render solidarity visible, examine its conditions, or understand themselves as part of solidaristic processes. In doing so, the focus shifts from representation to relation: toward networks, forms of cohesion, and resistance that unfold between people, images, and institutions. As an exhibition space, Bildräume der Solidarität is also conceived as a social space. Emerging from an open call, the project – alongside the presentation of the works – creates situations of encounter and exchange: with the participating artists as well as with the audience. Within these constellations, solidarity is tested as something that develops through dialogue and takes shape in collective thinking. The decision to bring together 32 positions was deliberate, driven by the impulse to make the breadth and polyphony of the submissions visible. The resulting density of the exhibition space is intentional – a productive overload that allows each work its own space while also enabling unforeseen connections to emerge.

REVOLUTION in Basel

Opening on 13 June in Basel is a group show at Celeste & Eliot Kunstsalon, this marking the third time we've exhibited with them. The exhibition insists we are not living in apocalyptical times, but rather in revolutionary ones. However, this is not just a political revolution, but also a technological, economic, environmental, even an emotional one. Though change and uncertainty may be scary, they present opportunities for evolution and improvement.

The exhibition includes work from Douglas Argüelles, Kenia Arguiñao, Françoise Bassand, Nick Crowe & lan Rawlinson, Thabiso Phepeng, Ninigi Tiger and José Angel Vincench. We are showing a new briquette work entitled Werkseinstellungen and our animated film, The Activist's Dilema will also be receiving its world premiere. To celebrate this fact we've produced a short-run edition of 10 prints taken from one of the photographs that make up the animation. It's available in the shop.

Democracy and Climate

Really happy to be showing our work 'How to Start a Movement' in this show at Global Gallery 3000, Gallery for Sustainable Art. Its one of our Sustainable Aesthetics pieces and this will be only its second outing. So looking forward to showing alongside Tom Albrecht, Alfred Banze, Thomas Behling, Carsten Borck, Felicitas Butt, Ute Diez, Stephan Groß, Gosia Hejnat, TrashmaidBerlin, Chuu Wai, Carina Persch, Lioba von den Driesh and Ran You.

The climate crisis is unquestionably one of the greatest challenges of our time. At the same time, democracy is threatened by authoritarian tendencies. Authoritarian systems tend to prioritize short-term economic interests over ecological responsibility. A stable democracy, on the other hand, enables discussions about sustainable solutions. Through engagement and participation, citizens can exert pressure for effective climate policy. Thus, a strong democracy protects not only freedom but also the future of our planet.

The show opens 10 April at 7pm at Group Global 3000, Gallery for Sustainable Art, Leuschnerdamm 19, 10999 Berlin and runs until 15 May 2026, open every Tuesday and Friday, 17.00 - 20.00 Uhr. As you can see from the above image there is a programme of talks and events to accompany the show.

Our existence depends on all the other living beings on this planet – on those who produce the air we breathe, the food we eat and the materials essential to life. Photographic works, videos, and objects present moments of contact, care, and desire between the different inhabitants of Earth, or ‘planetmates,’ as biologist Lynn Margulis put it.

We are going to be showing our work 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' which was produced in an unintended collaboration with a wasp. The work was previously shown at our SUNDAY presentation with WirWir, Berlin.

In conjunction with the ISAC Museum special exhibition Megiddo: A City Unearthed, A Past Imagined, (on view through March 15, 2026) we are delighted to be taking part in a a cross-disciplinary conversation on how complex archaeological, artistic, and scientific ideas are translated into compelling narratives and images for the media and wider public.

The discussion will center on press coverage of ISAC’s excavations at Megiddo (1925–1939), long imagined as the site of biblical Armageddon; our film Song for Armageddon (2017) and the Doomsday Clock, housed at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, whose 2026 setting will be announced on January 27. Drawing on these three projects, the discussion will explore different ways we give form to abstract threats and existential anxieties, shaping how we imagine apocalypse, reckon with “the end,” and envision the possibility of tomorrow.

The Kek!°!! Report, 2025

We are duly proud to announce that the second iteration of The Kek!°!! Report has now been published. Whereas the 2024 Report was based on the Kek!°!! performance we made for Vorbrenner in Innsbruck, this 2025 publication turns its focus to the live-work extravanganza that was Kek!°!! Legends and documents moments from our six day durational performance at Kottishop, Berlin during the summer of 2025.

True to the spirit of KeK!°!! we converted Kottishop into a briquette production facility complete with its own livestream TV studio. We also lived in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. The report features pictures of our Dodo costume, Karl Marx mask as well as German, Italian and English language excerpts from Karl Marx’s Fragment on Machines alongside screen grabs of our conversations with chat from the Twitch streams. Song for Armageddon at ISAC Museum in Chicago

We are currently showing our 2017 film Song for Armageddon at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum at the University of Chicago. It's a show we are very happy to be part of as its title 'Megiddo: A City Unearthed, A Past Imagined' hints at the complex relationship which the University of Chicago has with the site. The archaeological expeditions that took place at Megiddo one hundred years ago were sent from the University so they have played a large role in bringing the history of the site into the modern consciousness. Early 20th Century archaeology however sat somewhere between academic research and grave robbing - the finding of shiny trinkets was at least as important as the confirmation of biblical place names or any broader archaeological research into the physical history of the site. Indeed the large trench which the University expedition dug out of one side of the Tel arguably destroyed more information than it retrieved. It was this trench that we used in our film to frame the rising of the sun over the Jezreel Valley, an event which occurs three times in the 52 minute duration of Song for Armageddon. So for us it's a great context to have the film screened and we are very grateful to ISAC for the careful and precise installation of the work... including sourcing the same type chairs to view the film as we used at Megiddo! The show continues at ISAC up to 15 March 2026.

We're currently showing one of our Rust Drawings (Rust Drawing #8) at SCHAU FENSTER, Berlin as part of their 15 year anniversary exhibition. And we're not alone! Over 300 artists who've shown with them in an action packed decade and a half turned up on 5 September to hand over works for an massive wall installation. The show runs till 29 September 2025. We very happy to be participating in 'All Tomorrows', a show at Celeste & Eliot Kunstsalon in Basel. For the exhbition we are showing a new work, Memorial to a Murdered Cyclist. Like our VLADA project this work has a clear relationship to the war in Ukraine, although it takes a somewhat different approach to the subject. Whereas VLADA was built from many thousands of uploaded video clips Memorial to a Murdered Cyclist uses only one such clip. Namely, the drone footage of the death of Irina Filkina, a Ukrainian woman murdered by Russian soldiers in Bucha in March 2023. The showing in Basel will be the world premiere of this work.

'All Tomorrows' Opens on 19 June 2025 and runs until 26 July 2025. The gallery is at Güterstrasse 319, 4053 Basel with opening hours 17 - 20 on Friday and Saturday as well as by appointment via visit@kunstsalon1.ch

VLADA at OSTRALE025

Our long-form film VLADA is featured in this year's Ostrale Biennale, 'Never Grey'. Built from over 27,000 videos uploaded to a single Ukrainian Telegram channel since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the work presents a core sample of a contemporary conflict. For us this has become an ongoing work which is extending in duration the longer the war goes on. Increasingly, we're thinking of it as a war memorial.

The Ostrale Biennale 025 runs from 07 June to 05 October 2025 at the Robotron Kantine, Zinzendorfstr. 5, 01069 Dresden.

Kek!°!! Legends

Initially commissioned by VORBRENNER, Innsbruck, Kek!°!! returns this summer as Kek!°!! Legends, a six day, livestreamed durational performance for Kotti-Shop, Berlin. Featuring a lazy Karl Marx and a hard working Dodo, Kek!°!! Legends takes the Factory-cum-TV Studio model and adds in cookery lessons, a masterclass in cocktails and lots of briquettes with embedded poetic fragments. The work is part of the 'Widerspenstige Alphabete' project and we are grateful to the support of Kotti-Shop, Haus for Poesie and the Poesiefestival Berlin, 2025 for the realization of the project. Citizenship and Rust Drawings

This Sunday, for one day only, we'll be showing our 2010 work 'Citizenship' alongside some of our Rust Drawings at the Frühlingsfest in Schloss Wiepersdorf. The latter works got their first outing last year as part of SONNTAG, Berlin and its great to be able to exhibit them again. Nick will be in conversation with art historian Jana Sperling as part of the day's activities and there will also be work by Schloss Wiepersdorf fellows Marion Cziba, Jeanne Kolesova and Kaj Osteroth on display. From 14 - 18 hours this coming Sunday.

Love Rocket Rescue

As we are about to enter a summer season packed with exhibitions and performances we're marking the occasion with a new editioned print. Love Rocket Rescue is a photograph we took in our Manchester Ancoats studio. The two model airplanes with feathers stuck onto them are found objects we have owned for many years having found them in an emptied-out studio on the same floor as our own.

If at first glance they appear to be military planes it's because that’s what they are. Specifically they are models of the McDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extender, an American tanker and cargo aircraft that was operated by the United States Air Force from 1981 to 2024. The KC-10 played a key role in the mobilization of US military assets, taking part in overseas operations in Europe and Asia. These aircraft performed airlift and aerial refueling during the 1986 bombing of Libya, the 1990–91 Gulf War, the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, the War in Afghanistan, and Iraq War.’

In the image the two flying tankers have been propped up against one another. Maybe they are embracing, or dancing, or perhaps fighting, rutting like stags? No longer providing support for wars in other lands they are left to arrange themselves according to their own needs and concerns.

We're very happy to have received documentation from a recent showing of 'Explaining Urbanism to Wild Animals' at the Museum of Odessa Modern Art in Odessa, Ukraine. Shown as part of a screening organised by Video City, Basel and the British Council, our work was part a programme entitled Nature’s Life, Its Development and Neglect which also featured pieces by Anton Saienko, Ker Wallwork, James Stephen Wright and Dasha Chechushkova. VLADA, print edition and fundraiser

We're released a new print edition from our ongoing work, VLADA, a film that focusses on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In its first iteration VLADA was made from over 27000 videos that were uploaded to a Ukrainian Telegram channel (also called Влада) during the first year of the war. We are now producing a successor work, essentially an extension of the original film to cover not just the first 365 days of the war, but every day of the war up to the eventual cessation of hostilities. Rather than being simply a film about the war, VLADA will become, in effect, a war memorial, one created from the materials of a digital battlefield.

The print available in this limited edition is a film-still from VLADA, one which captures videos that were uploaded on the 26th and 27th February 2022. We have produced the print to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. All profits from the sale of this print will be donated to the Come Back Alive Foundation to support Ukraine's defence and for the ongoing support of Veterans. It is available supplied in a black frame or as an unframed print in a limited edition of 40 prints.

Romeo and Juliet, at Kotti Shop, Berlin

This week, for one week only, we are showing a new work at Kotti Shop, Berlin. Entitled 'Romeo and Juliet' it is a stop-frame animation which features a bridal floral arrangement that dries out and wilts over a period of several weeks.

Compressed into a 28 minute video, the work moves from a rich floral beauty to an increasingly complex patchwork of colour and form. The music for the work is a set of variations from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet’, specifically the section often referred to as ‘The Dance of the Knights’. In the video the flower fragments oscillate back and forth around a central axis as they slowly age. However, this is not a straight forward mirror image but rather features a subtle asymmetry. It is this grinding, asymmetrical struggle between opposing forces which comes to the fore in the work.

The work is going to be on shown on the windows at Kotti Shop every evening from 7pm to midnight as part of their TVTV programme. Full details are:

Two Kisses

We've just released a new photographic print, entitled Two Kisses. On November 11 2011 (so, 11.11.11) we received a studio visit from a friend and gallerist with whom we’d be working for several years. Things weren’t going well at the gallery. As is so often the case, the backer’s money was starting to run out before the business had turned a profit and she needed to make some changes. That meant dropping artists that weren’t selling and focussing on what might, ie painting. It was all very 'sorry guys' and 'keep in touch', but in the end, it was a kiss off. After her visit, when we came to clear up the coffee cups, we found she'd left two lipstick imprints on her mug. Of course we photographed them. Now we're making this image available as limited edition print. Perfect for break-ups and moving on.

Explaining Urbanism to Wild Animals, More London presentations announced!

We're happy to share with you that two further showings of Explaining Urbanism to Wild Animals have just been announced. 'Let the Grassroots Grow' is touring on from SET in Woolwich to SET Ealing (at 105-113 St James House, Broadway, London W13 9BE) before going on to SET Tower Gateway (at 7 Byward St, London, EC3R 5AS).

Other artists in the show include Lisa Maria Baier, Adonia Bouchehri, Leon Michel, Abi Palmer and Veronika Pfaffinger. The project was curated by Amina Ali, Andrea Domesle, Polina Chizhova, the Videocity Team and Rowan Bell.

Simply Nature, Missing Fire - Bern

Explaining Urbanism to Wild Animals gets another outing in October, this time in Bern, Switzerland as part of “Simply Fire, Missing Nature” at the REX Box.

This exhibition unfolds a story of four distinct ethical behaviour cases concerning non-humans in the given outdoor environments. Practicing acts of minimalistic care in the urban environment, going outside the cities, the artists work with their own tools, motifs and lenses. The resulting works are connected with the past, be it the past of places, of actual materials or the past of the art history suggested by the very methods of the artists. Which nature do their works show us? What kind of nature do they refer to? The images we see connect to the regions of our psyche that become knowable with the help of images of mountains, lawns, ponds, forests – in a word, through nature. But what is the nature of the images themselves, which is rather different from the nature of the materials with which they have been created? Perhaps, we might find it helpful to notice the fire of human progress, which warms and deserts everything in its all-consuming path, asking us not to value gardens over deserts, or their hybrids over each individually, but rather consider them in their own right.

The exhibition dates are 04.10.2024 – 30.10.2024. This selection has been curated by Stanislav Kholodnykh and also features the work of Veronika Pfaffinger, Rebekka Friedli and Julia Borderie & Eloïse Le Gallo.

Sonntag is a project started in 2012 by April Gertler and Adrian Schiesser where they invite an artist to make a show in a domestic space and also produce the artists' favourite cake which is served at the opening.

We're really chuffed to be doing the 66th Sonntag this coming Sunday with a one day show titled # # I am not just a tool, I am the embodiment of Capital.

We're mainly showing briquette works, but also the Dodo Costume from KEK!°!! and a re-edited video about endangered species in Austria. Oh, and our favorite cake is Toucinho do céu, a portuguese delight that also goes by the name Bacon from Heaven.
