I didn’t really know anything about t1 xo until I went online and did my research. When planning for delivery day, there are sure to be plenty of thoughts flying around your head. Whether the baby is your first or you’ve done this before, there is a certain sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. Amid the buzz it’s important not to forget to perform some essential tasks before you get too overwhelmed. The days and weeks leading up to delivery can quickly get hectic, so being well prepared can help save the day! Here are a few preparations to consider:

Work out your maternity or paternity leave early on According to the American Pregnancy Association, the Family and Medical Leave act requires most companies to give their employees time off without pay for a period lasting up to 12 weeks after delivery. In some cases, new mothers and fathers may also use their sick leave or vacation days in order to take care of their baby. Getting this set up well in advance allows you to rest easier knowing what support you’ll receive from your employer.

Similarly, the U.S. Department of Health suggests making sure you’re in continuous contact with your prenatal team. Receiving proper prenatal care in preparation for the birth of your baby is critical, and the more information your medical team knows about your pregnancy, the better to help with a smooth delivery.

Set up a post-delivery support network so everyone involved knows what you want. Things to think about are: Do you want someone to be at the house and ready to help as soon as the baby gets home? Would you prefer to have a few weeks to yourself with the baby immediately after? New parents can benefit greatly from having trusted friends or family around, especially if these people are experienced with young children.

Be sure to install your baby’s car seat before the big day. This is an important thing to remember when preparing for your child; in most cases, the hospital will not even let you leave without one. Similarly, stock your house with essentials like diapers and bottles, as you will likely be too tired to leave too often once you get home. And don’t’ forget to keep plenty of food in the house for yourself as well!

Make a decision on whether you would like your baby’s cord blood collected after birth. Cord blood is the blood remaining in the umbilical cord after the cord is clamped and cut, and it is a rich source of stem cells. Cord blood banking is something that ensures that your child’s stem cells will be available to your family for potential medical use in the future. Speak with your doctor about this option if it interests you.

If you want to help make sure you’ll have a smooth delivery as possible and an easy few days at home afterward, prepare as much as you can. The more you get out of the way now, the more enjoyable the experience will be.

Lark - Silent Un-Alarm and Sleep Sensor Alarm Clock

We were excited to try this out because my husband sets his phone alarm to go off four times before he finally gets out of bed. Every morning he wakes me up as well as out 13 month old son, whose room is the shared wall to ours so he can hear the phone alarm going off.

I wouldn’t mind that my husband sets his alarm to go off four different times, but he doesn’t get out of bed until 7:15 and has the alarm go off starting at 6:30. So I get annoyed that I am woken up by the alarm, and then get even more annoyed when the baby is woken up by the alarm!

It is completely different now that we have Lark! He wears the wrist band, which is connected to his phone; he sets his alarm like normal and the Lark gently vibrates his wrist to wake him…and not me or the little guy! J

Ease of Use:

Lark was very easy to pair with my iPhone, I have the 3GS. All I had to do was charge the Lark with the wall plug provided. Download the iPhone Lark app and pair it with my phone by going to the Bluetooth setting and choosing Lark.

Then, in the Lark app on my phone, I can set the alarm and put the wrist band on.

It is just that easy! I was really surprised it wasn’t more complicated, but it wasn’t so I was very happy. Sometimes I get mad with technology but it was super easy to set up and use!

{Review} Dance to the Music (Nickelodeon - releases 2/28)!

My little guy has an obsession with Bubble Guppies, a show on Nickelodeon. We watch it every day together and sing and dance to the music! The new DVD that will be released on 2/28, Dance to the Music!, features a song from Bubble Guppies called "We Totally Rock", which is one of his favorites so I knew he'd love this DVD!

He also watches Dora and Team Umizoomi on occasion so he really got into this DVD since they have songs on there as well. It really is an entertaining and fun DVD to watch, sing and dance to for the little ones.

Who are the Alphabeasts?

We love Rock N Learn in my house! The DVD's are so fun and my 6 year old son has been doing so well with the Letter Sounds DVD! Rock N Learn offered to let us review the Sight Words DVD and we were super excited!

My 6 year old son is learning sight words in Kindergarten and he has been struggling a little bit with them. Tommee Tippee sent my little man, 13 months, a couple of sippy cups to try out! My little guy just started weaning off the bottle a few weeks ago, and it has been a bit of a struggle! He is doing well with his new sippy cups though, the tops aren't much different than the material of the bottle so it has made it easier for him to adapt to it.

Here are some pics of the cups we received:

As you can see, they have handles so the little ones can easily grip the cups and carry them around. They also have a cap to close and protect the spout when they are not drinking from it.

Seeing his new cup for the first time, he has to thoroughly check it out:

As you can see below, he found the cap and has also figured out how to work it:

Super excited that he figured out how to put the cap on! :)

The cups are also spill proof, so baby can tip them, throw them, and anything else that little ones do!

Overall, we really enjoy the sippy cups, they are easy to clean and durable. I do wish that the handles could rotate as there are times when I turn the top part and it doesn't end up in the middle so it makes it a little confusing for him when he tips it back and can't find the spout. Otherwise, everything about the cup is great!

Being a mommy and being sick is not fun!

For the past week I have been battling some sort of illness that has really thrown me for a loop! Since I am only 10 weeks pregnant I am limited as to what I can take, actually I haven't taken any medication but just found out Friday I can take Robitussin...too bad there is a snow storm and I can't get to the store! :(

I woke up last Sunday feeling really achy and had severe sore throat. Then it turned into a head cold and now it's in my head and chest. My morning sickness has been a lot worse too since I am so congested so that has been another obstacle.

All the while, I have been chasing around this little monkey:

I also had to help my 6 year old son complete his 100 day of school project:

and...to top it off, while feeling like death, my blind doggy had his left eye shut on Friday and when I opened it, his entire eye was pure white. So, off to the animal hospital we went...me, the dog and the 2 kids. $500 later, we found out he has a retina degeneration disease, which isn't reversible so he'll remain blind, and he must have run into something that caused an abrasion on his cornea. I have to put drops in his eyes twice a day to get that better.

The moral of the story...Mommy's don't get days off and can't call in sick!

This is coming from a mommy that had worked full time until my second child was born 12/21/10. My 6 year old was in daycare until last summer so if I was sick my husband would take him to daycare and I had the house to myself to rest and feel better. Now that I lost my job when I had my little guy, I don't have that luxury at all, and I kinda miss it! But, I would rather be home for my kids than have someone else raise them. I think that is why my 6 year old is struggling a little in Kindergarten. I keep wondering if it would be different if I were home with him instead of shoving him off to a daycare...I guess I feel a little guilty.

Regardless, I have been napping when my 13 month old naps and and going to bed at 7:30 when my kids go to bed and it is taking longer then usual to get rid of a sickness but I am starting to feel like I am on the mend.

Hopefully I'll get back to normal in the next day or so! I have a few great reviews and giveaways to complete! :)

We had the opportunity to review a book from the Howard B. Wigglebottom collection and we chose the Learn to Listen book! My 6 year old son is in Kindergarten and has had some issues listening, at home and at school, so I thought this book would be perfect for him!

It teaches children that if they do not listen, things may go wrong and they may get hurt in the process. There are many scenarios explained in the book, my favorite was when he was playing baseball and they told him to keep his eye one the ball but Howard decided to bounce around instead of pay attention. He was hit with the ball because he didn't listen and pay attention. It's examples like these that really help children understand that there are consequences for their actions and it was helpful for my 6 year old son to read the book and see what might happen if he doesn't start listening.

The graphics in this book are amazing, I am always one to look at the pictures, always have been, and graphics are really important when it comes to matching up what the book is trying to say. These graphics are some of the best I have seen, they emphasize the point of the book really well and they are so bubbly and fun it makes it that much more enjoyable to read!

Tiny Prints Offers Business Card Options!

While I have never been to a blogger conference, I really hope to get to one at some point in my life.

Though I have not been blogging for very long, I do absolutely love this hobby of mine! I have a passion for writing as well as a passion for saving money so the two go hand in hand and it works for me to document everything so others can benefit as well.

I really want to attend BlogHer'12 this year, it is in NYC which is only about 5 hours from me so it is relatively close. However, being unemployed, there is no way I'd be able to afford to go to NYC for 2 days...get a hotel room, purchase tickets for the event, eat, find something to wear that is stylish maternity (I'll need it at that point!) so there are a lot of expenses involved and I just don't think I can swing it! There is always next year I suppose...although I doubt the event will get any closer to me!

Either way, it is important when attending these types of events and networking with companies as well as other bloggers to have a business card to hand out. That way, they do not forget who you are, they have all of your contact information and it'll open up more opportunities for you as it looks more professional.
