“I’ll start my business when…”

How many times have you said those words? Maybe it’s, “I’ll start when the baby is sleeping through the night,” or “when the kids are all in school.” Perhaps it’s “when we have more savings,” or “when I have more time.”

We tell ourselves these stories, creating a checklist of perfect conditions that must be met before we can finally give ourselves permission to chase a dream.

But here’s a gentle truth: there is no perfect time. Life will always be busy. There will always be a reason to wait. The kids will get older, but their needs will just change. The savings account will grow, but so will expenses. If you wait for the “perfect moment,” you might be waiting forever.

The real perfect time is now. Not because it’s easy, but because starting in the messy middle of motherhood equips you with a unique set of skills and a powerful sense of purpose.

The constraints you feel – the lack of time, the tight budget, the mental load – aren’t roadblocks. They’re the very things that can shape you into a focused, efficient, and resilient entrepreneur. If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it.

The Myth of the “Perfect” Start

We often have a romanticized vision of what starting a business looks like. We imagine a quiet, dedicated office, a fully funded bank account, and long, uninterrupted hours to plan and create. This vision is a fantasy for most people, but especially for moms.

Trying to achieve this perfect scenario before you begin is a form of self-sabotage. It’s rooted in fear – fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, and fear of what others will think. Waiting for the perfect time is just a way to delay the possibility of facing those fears.

The truth is, some of the most successful businesses were built in the most imperfect conditions. They were started in garages, at kitchen tables, and yes, even during nap times. Starting now, exactly as you are, isn’t a compromise. It’s a strategic advantage.

Why Your Current Season Is Your Superpower

It might feel like motherhood is holding you back from your business dreams, but what if it is actually preparing you for them? The daily life of a mom is a masterclass in entrepreneurship.

You’re a Master of Efficiency

No one understands the value of a 20-minute window like a mom. When you have limited time, you become ruthless with your priorities. You learn to identify the most critical tasks and execute them with laser focus.

This “nap time hustle” mentality forces you to eliminate fluff and focus on revenue-generating activities. An entrepreneur who has all the time in the world can easily waste it. A mompreneur cannot.

You Understand Your Target Market Intimately

Many of the best business ideas for moms are born from solving a problem you are currently experiencing.

Are you looking for healthier snacks for your toddler?

Are you struggling to find stylish and comfortable clothes that fit your postpartum body?

Your own needs often reflect the needs of millions of other moms. You don’t need to spend months on market research; you’re living it. This gives you an authentic voice and an intuitive understanding of your future customers.

You Have Unmatched Resilience

Motherhood is a constant cycle of problem-solving. You handle sleepless nights, toddler tantrums, and unexpected sickness with a level of grit you never knew you had. This resilience is the bedrock of entrepreneurship.

When a launch doesn’t go as planned, or a client gives negative feedback, you won’t crumble. You’ll take a deep breath, adapt, and keep moving forward – just like you do every single day as a mom.

Overcoming the “But I Don’t Have…” Excuses

Let’s address the most common reasons we delay our dreams and reframe them as opportunities.

“But I don’t have enough time…”

You don’t need 40 hours a week to start. You just need consistency. Can you find 30 minutes a day? That’s 3.5 hours a week, or over 180 hours in a year.

Imagine what you could build with 180 focused hours. Start by tracking your time for a few days. You might be surprised to find pockets of time spent scrolling on your phone or watching TV that could be redirected toward your dream. Starting with a limited time forces you to be incredibly smart and strategic from day one.

“But I don’t have enough money…”

You don’t need a huge investment to launch a business in today’s digital world. Many successful businesses are service-based and can be started with little more than a laptop and an internet connection.

You can start as a freelance writer, a virtual assistant, or a social media manager with virtually zero startup costs. Instead of thinking you need a big loan, ask yourself, “What is the smallest, most affordable step I can take right now to get my first paying client?”

“But I don’t know where to start…”

This is perhaps the biggest hurdle of all. The sheer volume of information about starting a business can be paralyzing. You hear about LLCs, sales funnels, SEO, and email marketing, and it feels like you need five degrees just to begin.

This is where you need a roadmap, not a mountain of information. You don’t need to know everything. You just need to know the right next step. This is the power of a guided program or course. It cuts through the noise and gives you a clear, step-by-step path to follow, turning overwhelm into actionable, confident progress.

The Cost of Waiting

What’s the true cost of waiting another year? Another five years? It’s not just about delayed income. It’s about the creative fulfillment you’re putting on hold. It’s about the confidence you aren’t building. It’s about the example you aren’t setting for your children.

Every day you wait is a day you could have been learning, growing, and moving closer to the life you envision for yourself and your family. Starting now, even if it’s small and imperfect, builds momentum. That momentum is what will carry you through the challenges and toward your biggest goals.

You’re more ready than you think you are. Your life experience, your passion, and your resilience as a mother have prepared you for this journey in ways you can’t even imagine. The conditions will never be perfect, but your resolve can be.

Your Journey Starts Today

If you’ve been waiting for permission, this is it. You don’t need a perfect plan. You don’t need more time. You just need to take the first step.

The journey from dreaming to doing can feel daunting, but you don’t have to walk it alone. I created the becoming Mompreneur course to be the roadmap I wish I had when I started. It’s designed to take you from a place of uncertainty to a place of action, giving you the exact steps you need to build a profitable, sustainable business that fits around your family life.

Stop waiting for “someday.” Let’s make today your Day One.

You have a dream. It’s a quiet one…usually surfacing late at night when the house is finally still, or during a long walk with the stroller. It’s the dream of building something that is yours – a business that offers flexibility, financial freedom, and creative fulfillment, all without sacrificing precious moments with your children.

But then, the practical questions creep in. “What would I even do?” “I’ve been out of the workforce for years, what skills do I have?” “How can I start a business with zero time and a tiny budget?”

These questions can feel so overwhelming that they stop the dream in its tracks. The good news is that you already possess a wealth of valuable skills, just by being a mom. You are a master negotiator, a logistics coordinator, a time-management wizard, and a creative problem-solver. These are the very skills that build successful businesses.

Starting a business from home is more accessible than ever before. You don’t need a massive investment or a fancy MBA. You just need an idea that aligns with your passions, your skills, and the realities of your life as a mom. This guide will walk you through some of the best business ideas for moms and help you find the one that’s a perfect fit for you.

How to Choose the Right Business Idea

Before we dive into the list, let’s talk about how to find your perfect match. A great business idea sits at the intersection of three things:

5 Top Business Ideas for Moms

1. Freelance Writing or Copywriting

If you have a way with words, freelance writing is one of the most flexible businesses you can start. Businesses of all sizes need written content, including blogposts, website copy, emails, and social media captions.

▷ Why it’s great for moms: You can write from anywhere, at any time. Whether it’s during nap time, before the kids wake up, or late at night, you can fit writing into the pockets of your day.

▷ Skills needed: Strong writing and grammar skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and a knack for research.

▷ How to get started: Create a portfolio with a few writing samples (you can even write them for free for a friend’s business to start). Then, create profiles on platforms like Upwork or Contena, or start pitching potential clients directly via email.

2. Virtual Assistant (VA)

Are you the person everyone relies on to stay organized? A Virtual Assistant provides administrative, technical, or creative assistance to clients remotely. The tasks can vary widely, from managing email inboxes and scheduling appointments to handling social media accounts and customer service.

▷ Why it’s great for moms: You can use the organizational skills you’ve honed as a mom to help other business owners. You can start with just one client and a few hours a week.

▷ Skills needed: Excellent organization, strong communication skills, and proficiency with basic online tools like Google Suite. You can also specialize in areas like social media management or podcast support.

▷ How to get started: Make a list of all the tasks you’re good at. Reach out to small business owners in your network and let them know you’re offering VA services.

3. E-commerce & Handmade Goods

Do you knit, paint, make jewelry, or design clever t-shirts? The world of e-commerce allows you to turn your creative hobby into a real business. Platforms like Etsy have made it incredibly easy to set up an online shop and sell your physical or digital products to a global audience.

▷ Why it’s great for moms: It’s a creative outlet that can be done from home on your own schedule. You can manage your inventory and work on new products whenever you have a free moment.

▷ Skills needed: A creative talent, an eye for product photography, and basic customer service skills.

▷ How to get started: Decide on your product line and create a small batch of inventory. Open an Etsy shop or create a simple website with Shopify. Take high-quality photos of your products and start promoting them on social media.

4. Blogging or Content Creation

If you have a passion for a specific topic – whether it’s gentle parenting, budget-friendly meals, or DIY home decor – starting a blog can be a powerful way to build a business.

While it’s not an overnight moneymaker, a successful blog can generate income through advertising, affiliate marketing (recommending products you love), and selling your own digital products.

▷ Why it’s great for moms: It’s a business built around your personal passions and expertise. You have complete control over your schedule and content.

▷ Skills needed: Strong writing skills, a basic understanding of social media, and a lot of patience and consistency.

▷ How to get started: Choose a niche you’re passionate about. Pick a blog name and set up a simple website using a platform like WordPress. Start writing and sharing valuable content that helps your target audience.

5. Social Media Manager

Do you love scrolling through Instagram and TikTok? Turn that passion into a paycheck by becoming a social media manager. Many small business owners are overwhelmed by the thought of managing their social media presence and are happy to outsource it.

▷ Why it’s great for moms: Most social media work can be done from your phone at any time of day. You can schedule content in advance, making it easy to manage around your family’s schedule.

▷ Skills needed: A deep understanding of one or more social media platforms, basic graphic design skills (using tools like Canva), and the ability to write engaging captions.

▷ How to get started: Offer to manage the social media for a local business or a friend for a reduced rate to build your portfolio. Create packages based on the services you offer (e.g., content creation, community engagement).

There’s a specific number that makes my stomach drop when I see it on my caller ID. It’s the school nurse.

Or maybe it’s the quiet whimper on the baby monitor at 2:00 AM that signals a fever is spiking. Or perhaps it’s the shift in your teenager’s mood that tells you something is wrong, and they need you now.

In the glamorous world of Instagram entrepreneurship, you see a lot of talk about “hustle” and “scaling.” You hear about launch strategies and revenue goals. But we rarely talk about the days (or weeks) when business has to take a backseat because being a mom is the only job title that matters.

Here’s the truth: Your children are not interruptions to your work. They are the reason you are building this life in the first place.

But when a sleep regression hits, a sickness sweeps through the house, or a child is struggling emotionally, the tension between “CEO” and “Mom” can feel unbearable. You feel guilty for not working, and guilty for thinking about work while holding a sick baby.

The beauty of being a mompreneur is that you have the autonomy to choose. You can choose to downshift. You can choose to prioritize the humans you are raising over the business you are building. And guess what? Your business doesn’t have to crumble just because you stepped away from the driver’s seat for a little while.

Here’s how to navigate those seasons when “momming” is the priority, while keeping your business healthy in the background.

Shift Your Mindset

The first step isn’t strategic; it’s emotional. You have to give yourself permission to pivot.

When a crisis or a heavy transition hits at home, our instinct is often to try to maintain our normal pace, just with less sleep and more stress. We try to answer emails while soothing a tantrum or take calls from the pediatrician’s waiting room. This is a fast track to burnout.

In fact, I can recall so many times when a missed or short naptime led to me (frustratingly) having to cancel or move a work meeting.

Instead, embrace the concept of “Maintenance Mode.”

Maintenance mode isn’t quitting. It isn’t failing. It is a strategic decision to keep the lights on without trying to build a new wing on the house. It means acknowledging that for this specific season – whether it lasts three days or three months – your goal is stability, not growth.

Once you accept that your productivity will look different for a while, the guilt starts to dissipate. You aren’t falling behind; you’re simply reallocating your resources to where they are needed most.

Identify Your “Glass Balls” vs. “Plastic Balls”

There’s a famous analogy about balancing life that says we’re all juggling balls. Some are plastic, and some are glass. If you drop a plastic ball, it bounces. No harm done. If you drop a glass ball, it shatters.

When your family needs you, you cannot keep all the balls in the air. You have to decide which ones to drop.

What are the Glass Balls in your Business?

These are the non-negotiables. If you ignore them, there are serious consequences (financial loss, damaged reputation, legal issues).

Examples: Delivering work to current paying clients, paying your own bills, showing up for scheduled coaching calls.

What are the Plastic Balls?

These are things that feel important but won’t destroy your business if they pause for a few weeks.

Examples: Posting on Instagram every day, writing a new blogpost, networking events, tweaking your website design, launching a new low-ticket offer.

Sit down for ten minutes and make a list. Be ruthless. When your baby is teething and hasn’t slept in three days, posting a reel is a plastic ball. Let it bounce. Focus only on the glass.

Automate Everything You Can

If you haven’t set up automation in your business yet, consider this your sign. Systems are what allow your business to run while you’re rubbing a back or driving to therapy appointments.

When you know you are entering a busy family season (or even if you’re just in the thick of one unexpectedly), lean heavily on tech.

EMAIL AUTO-RESPONDERS

Set up an honest out-of-office reply. You don’t have to lie and say you’re “in meetings.”

Try something like: “Thanks for your email! I’m currently stepping away from my inbox to focus on some family priorities. I’m checking emails once a day and will get back to you within 48 hours. Thanks for your patience!”

SOCIAL MEDIA SCHEDULING

If you have content already created, use tools like Later or Planoly to schedule it out so your feed stays active without your daily input. If you don’t have content ready, see the point above about plastic balls (it’s okay to go quiet!).

CLIENT ONBOARDING

Can you automate your contract sending and invoicing? Tools like Dubsado or HoneyBook can handle the administrative heavy lifting, so you don’t have to.

Communicate with Transparency & Grace

One of the biggest fears mompreneurs have is looking “unprofessional.” We worry that if clients know we are dealing with a sick kid or a personal struggle, they will lose faith in our ability to deliver.

In reality, most clients – especially if they’re also parents – are incredibly empathetic. I’m actually thankful for the pandemic in showing us that you can be professional with (or without) kids at home while working.

You don’t need to overshare the gritty details, but clear, honest communication builds trust with both clients and colleagues.

▷ Instead of ghosting: Send a quick note saying, “I have a personal family matter that requires my attention this week. I will be pushing our deadline back by two days to ensure I can give your project the focus it deserves. Does that work for you?”

▷Set expectations early: If you know a transition is coming (like a new baby or summer break), let clients know well in advance what your availability will be.

Most people appreciate honesty far more than a rushed, subpar job delivered by a stressed-out business owner.

Lean on Your Support System (or Hire One)

We often fall into the trap of thinking we have to be the martyr – the one who suffers in silence to keep everything afloat. But running a business and a family in crisis mode is a two-person (or three-person) job.

▷ Ask for specific help: Don’t just tell your partner “I’m overwhelmed.” Say, “I have a deadline on Thursday. Can you handle bedtime and bath duty for the next two nights so I can get two hours of focused work done?”

▷ Outsource the domestic load: If your budget allows, this is the time to order takeout, hire a cleaner for a one-off deep clean, or send the laundry out. Buying back your time is a business investment.

▷ Hire temporary business help: If you have a VA, ask if they can take on a few extra hours to manage your inbox. If you don’t, is there a project-based contractor you can bring in to keep things moving?

Utilize “Sprint” Working

When your kids need you, long blocks of deep work are usually impossible. You might be dealing with constant interruptions or just mental exhaustion.

Switch your strategy to “Sprint Working.”

Instead of looking for four hours, look for 20 minutes. What is the one tiny thing you can move forward in 20 minutes?

▷ Send one invoice.
▷ Reply to three critical emails.
▷ Outline one piece of content.

These micro-movements keep the engine running without requiring the mental load of a full workday. It keeps you feeling capable and connected to your business without pulling you away from your family for long stretches.

Remember Why You Started

In the thick of the hard days, it is easy to feel resentful of the business. It can feel like a burden weighing you down when you just want to focus on your kids.

But remember this: You built this business to give you freedom.

This is the freedom.

The freedom to say “no” to a meeting because your child needs you. The freedom to work in your pajamas at 10 PM because you spent the day at the doctor’s office. The freedom to shape your life around your values.

It feels heavy right now, but you are doing exactly what you set out to do: being the mom your kids need, on your own terms.

Build a Business That Supports Your Life

The best way to handle these seasons is to build a business that is resilient enough to handle them before they happen. It’s about creating a foundation of systems, passive income streams, and scalable offers that don’t require your presence 24/7.

It’s about mastering your time so that when life happens (and it always does), you have the margin to handle it.

If you are ready to build that kind of resilience – to create a business that thrives even when you need to step back – I have laid out the exact roadmap in my course.

I poured every lesson from my own journey of balancing babies, business, and big life transitions into becoming Mompreneur. It is the guide to mastering your time, automating your systems, and building a profitable business that fits your life, not the other way around.

The dream is beautiful: you’re sipping hot coffee, your baby is cooing peacefully in a nearby bouncer, and you’re effortlessly building your business empire from your laptop.

You imagine a life of financial freedom, creative fulfillment, and endless flexibility, all without missing a single one of your child’s precious milestones. But the reality? It often feels a lot messier.

How do you possibly find time to write a client proposal when you’re navigating cluster feeding, a mountain of laundry, and the overwhelming love and responsibility of being a new mom? How do you create a work-from-home schedule that actually works?

Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship isn’t about “doing it all” at the same time. It’s about creating a sustainable system that allows you to be present for both your family and your professional ambitions. It requires a new perspective on productivity, a big dose of self-compassion, and a handful of practical strategies to manage your time, energy, and priorities.

This post will walk you through the essential steps to find that delicate balance and build a schedule where you can be both a present parent and a successful business owner.

Redefine What Productivity Looks Like

The first step to creating a schedule that works is to completely let go of the traditional 9-to-5 concept of productivity. Your workday will no longer be a solid eight-hour block.

Instead, it will become a collection of focused sprints scattered throughout your day. Welcome to the world of micro-productivity.

Embrace the “Nap Time” Hustle

For many mompreneurs, the most productive hours of the day are when the house is quiet. This means leveraging nap times, early mornings before the baby wakes up, or late evenings after bedtime. These small, focused windows of time can be incredibly effective if you plan them well.

Instead of trying to tackle a massive to-do list, identify one or two high-impact tasks you can complete in a 60-90 minute session. This isn’t about squeezing in as much as possible; it’s about doing the right things.

Celebrate Small Wins

You won’t build an empire during a single nap time, and that’s okay.

Did you send one important email?

Draft a single social media post?

Research a competitor?

These are all wins. Acknowledging and celebrating these small steps builds momentum and keeps you motivated when you feel like you’re not making enough progress. Remember, the goal is consistent progress, not overnight perfection.

Master Your Time with Intentional Planning

As a mom, your time is your most precious and unpredictable resource. Without a clear plan, the day can easily get swallowed up by the immediate needs of your child, leaving no room for your business. This is where intentional time management becomes your superpower.

The Power of Time-Blocking

Time-blocking is a game-changer for mompreneurs. It’s a simple method that involves dedicating specific blocks of time to specific tasks. At the beginning of each week, take a few minutes to map out your schedule.

1. Block in Non-Negotiables First: This includes feeding times, naps, playtime with your baby, and appointments. These are the anchors of your day.

2. Schedule Work Blocks: Identify your “power hours” (like nap times or after bedtime) and assign your most important business tasks to them. Be realistic about what you can achieve.

3. Include Personal Time: Block out time for yourself, whether it’s for a shower, a short walk, or just 15 minutes to drink your coffee in peace. If you don’t schedule it, it’s much less likely to happen.

Set Realistic Daily Goals

It’s incredibly easy to overestimate what you can accomplish in a day with a baby.

A long, daunting to-do list is a recipe for overwhelm and mom guilt. Instead, set just 1-3 priorities for your business each day. This “Top 3” approach ensures you are making consistent progress on what truly matters.

Before you start your day, ask yourself, “What are the few tasks that will move my business forward the most?” and focus only on those.

Build Flexibility into Your Routine

Here’s the most important rule of creating a schedule with a baby: be prepared to throw it all out the window. Babies are unpredictable. Naps get skipped, sickness happens, and some days they just need more snuggles. The key to sanity is to create a routine, but hold it loosely.

Have a “Plan B”

What happens if your baby’s nap is cut short? Have a list of quick, 5-10 minute tasks you can do while your baby is happily playing nearby. This could be responding to a few social media comments, tidying your desk, or brainstorming content ideas.

Having a backup plan allows you to still feel productive even when your primary plan gets derailed.

Theme Your Days

To reduce decision fatigue, try giving each day a broad theme. For example:

Mondays: Marketing & Social Media
Tuesdays: Client Work & Projects
Wednesdays: Content Creation & Writing
Thursdays: Admin & Finance
Fridays: Planning & Catch-up

This doesn’t mean you only do marketing on Mondays, but it gives your main work block a clear focus. When you sit down to work, you already know what your priority is, which saves precious mental energy.

Communicate with Your Support System

You are not meant to do this alone. Communicate your schedule and your needs with your partner, family, or any other support system you have. Could someone watch the baby for an hour so you can take an important client call? Can your partner handle dinner and bath time while you wrap up a project? Building a supportive village is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Your Roadmap to a Thriving Mompreneur Life

Finding balance as a new mom and entrepreneur is a journey of continuous adjustment and self-compassion. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own taught me exactly what works.

I poured all of those lessons, templates, and strategies into the becoming Mompreneur course. It is the step-by-step roadmap to mastering your time and building a profitable business that truly fits your life, without sacrificing the precious moments with your family. It’s designed to help you create systems that work for you, so you can thrive as both a mom and a CEO.

If you’re ready to stop feeling overwhelmed and start building a business and a life you love, this is your next step.

There’s a specific kind of panic that every mom knows. It happens when you finally get the baby down for a nap. You tiptoe out of the nursery, holding your breath, avoiding the creaky floorboard like your life depends on it. You gently close the door, and suddenly, the clock starts ticking.

You have maybe 45 minutes. Maybe an hour and a half if the stars align.

In that short window, you want to build an empire. Or at least, answer three emails and post on Instagram. But often, by the time you pour a cup of coffee, find your laptop charger, and remember what you were supposed to be doing, you hear the monitor crackle. Nap time is over.

If you’re trying to build a business while raising a baby, the lack of time can feel suffocating. We’re conditioned to believe that “real” work happens in 8-hour blocks. We think we need uninterrupted silence and a dedicated office to make progress.

But here’s the truth: You don’t need a 40-hour workweek to build a profitable business. You just need a strategy for the pockets of time you do have.

You can absolutely go from diapers to dollars using the margins of your day. It requires a shift in mindset, a bit of preparation, and a whole lot of grace. Here is how to turn those precious nap times into your most productive business hours.

Stop Counting Hours & Start Making Them Count

The first hurdle to overcome is the employee mindset. In a traditional job, you’re often paid for your presence. If you sit at a desk from 9 to 5, you get a paycheck.

Entrepreneurship works differently. You aren’t paid for your time; you are paid for your value.

This is incredible news for moms. It means you don’t have to clock in for eight hours to be successful. You just need to produce results.

When you have limited time, you become ruthless with your efficiency. You stop scrolling social media aimlessly. You stop tweaking your logo for the fiftieth time. You learn to focus on revenue-generating activities because you simply don’t have time for anything else.

Your goal isn’t to work more. It is to work smarter during the short bursts of time available to you.

The Golden Rule: Never Plan During Nap Time

This is the single most important rule for nap time productivity: Do not spend your nap time deciding what to do.

If you sit down at your computer without a plan, you will waste the first 15 minutes getting oriented. You will check your email, get distracted by a notification, and before you know it, you’ve spent your entire work window reacting instead of creating.

The “Night Before” Strategy

The solution is to plan your work block before you are actually in it. Spend five minutes the night before – perhaps after the baby goes to bed – mapping out exactly what you will do the next day.

Write down the specific task you will tackle the moment the baby falls asleep. Get granular. Instead of writing “work on website,” write “draft the ‘About Me’ page copy.”

When nap time hits, you don’t have to think. You just execute. You can sit down, open the specific document you need, and start typing immediately. This eliminates decision fatigue and allows you to enter a flow state much faster.

Prioritize High-Impact Tasks (The 80/20 Rule)

When you only have 15 hours a week (or less) to build your business, you cannot afford to do busy work. You must relentlessly prioritize tasks that actually move the needle.

This is the Pareto Principle in action: 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts. Your job is to identify that 20% and ignore the rest.

What Does High-Impact Look Like?

High-impact tasks are usually the things that lead directly to income or growth. They are often the things we procrastinate on because they feel difficult.

▷ High-Impact: Sending personalized pitches to potential clients.
▷ Low-Impact: Researching the “perfect” email subject line for three hours.

▷ High-Impact: Creating a sales page for your new offer.
▷ Low-Impact: Changing the font color on your website footer.

▷ High-Impact: Recording a video for your course.
▷ Low-Impact: Watching competitors’ videos to “get inspired.”

During nap time, focus exclusively on the high-impact list. Save the low-impact stuff (like responding to simple DMs or organizing digital files) for when the baby is awake and playing happily on the floor, or for when you are too tired for deep work.

The Power of Micro-Time-Blocking

We often think we can’t start a task unless we can finish it. We tell ourselves, “I can’t write a blogpost right now because I only have 20 minutes.”

This mindset keeps us stuck. Instead of waiting for a mythical four-hour block of time that may never come, learn to break big projects into micro-tasks.

If your goal is to launch a podcast, don’t put “launch podcast” on your to-do list. Break it down until it fits into a nap time slot:

1. Brainstorm 10 episode titles (15 mins)
2. Outline episode 1 (20 mins)
3. Record episode 1 (30 mins)
4. Edit intro music (15 mins)

When you break projects down this way, you realize that you do have time. You have plenty of 20-minute pockets. By stringing these small victories together, you eventually complete massive projects without ever having a full workday.

Consistency Beats Intensity

There is a myth in the startup world that you need to pull all-nighters and hustle until you drop to “make it.” For a mom, that’s a one-way ticket to burnout.

You cannot run a marathon at a sprint pace, especially when you’re sleep-deprived. The secret to building a business during nap time isn’t intensity; it’s consistency.

Working for 90 minutes a day, every single day, is far more powerful than working for 10 hours once a month. Consistency keeps the momentum going. It keeps your head in the game. It allows the compound effect to take over.

Even if you only get one thing done today, that’s one step closer than you were yesterday. Celebrate that progress. Do not belittle your small steps; they are the bricks that are building your castle.

What to Do When the Nap Doesn’t Happen

Let’s be real: sometimes, despite your best efforts, the baby just won’t nap. Or they wake up after 20 minutes screaming. Or they get sick and need to be held all day.

This is the reality of the mompreneur life. It’s messy and unpredictable. When this happens, give yourself grace. Don’t spiral into frustration.

Have a “Plan B” list of tasks you can do from your phone while breastfeeding or holding a sleeping baby. This might be engaging with your community on Instagram, listening to a business podcast, or voice-dictating ideas into your notes app.

And sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is close the laptop and just be a mom. The business will be there tomorrow. Your baby is only this little today.

You Can Build This

Building a business during the margins of motherhood isn’t easy, but it is entirely possible. It forces you to be disciplined, strategic, and focused. It strips away the fluff and leaves you with a lean, efficient business model.

You’re proving that you don’t have to choose between your ambition and your family. You’re building a life where you can have both: one nap time at a time.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start building, you don’t have to do it alone. I’ve taken everything I learned from scaling my own business on a part-time schedule and turned it into a step-by-step framework.

It starts as a whisper when you close your laptop door to play with your kids. It gets louder when you miss a bedtime because of a client call. And sometimes, it screams when you look at your to-do list and realize you haven’t “accomplished” enough in either your business or your motherhood journey today.

Mom guilt. It is the uninvited guest at every mompreneur’s table.

If you’re building a business while raising a family, you know this feeling intimately. It’s the constant, nagging sensation that no matter what you are doing, you should be doing something else.

When you’re working, you feel guilty for not being with your kids. When you’re with your kids, you feel guilty for not working on your business.

It is a zero-sum game where you always feel like the loser.

But here’s the truth that we need to normalize: You’re not doing it wrong. This tension you feel? It is not a sign of failure; it’s a sign of care. You care deeply about your family, and you care deeply about your dreams. The goal isn’t to eliminate the tension entirely – that’s impossible – but to stop letting the guilt drive the car.

You can build a thriving business without sacrificing your soul or your relationship with your children. Here’s how to start silencing the guilt and stepping into your power as both a mother and a CEO.

Reframe the Narrative

Society often tells us that a “good mother” is selfless. We’re taught that our children should be our entire world, and any time spent away from them is time stolen. This narrative is the fuel that powers mom guilt.

It is time to rewrite that story.

Your ambition isn’t a betrayal of your children. It’s a lesson for them.

When you build a business, you’re modeling resilience, creativity, problem-solving, and financial independence.

You’re showing them that a woman can love her family fiercely and have passions, goals, and an identity outside of the home.

You’re teaching your daughter that her voice matters in the marketplace.

You’re teaching your son to respect female leadership.

Instead of thinking, “I’m taking time away from my kids,” try reframing it to: “I’m showing my kids what it looks like to pursue a dream.”

Quality Over Quantity

One of the biggest sources of guilt is the idea that we need to be present for every single moment. We worry that if we aren’t there for every scraped knee or every block tower, we are failing.

But child development experts and psychologists agree: it is the quality of the connection that matters far more than the sheer quantity of hours.

Be Where Your Feet Are

The most effective antidote to guilt is presence. When you are with your kids, be all there. Put the phone in a drawer. Close the laptop. Get on the floor and look them in the eyes. Twenty minutes of undivided, enthusiastic attention fills a child’s emotional cup far more than four hours of being in the same room while you are mentally checking emails.

The same applies to your business. When you are working, give yourself permission to focus. Do not apologize for it. Trust that your children are safe and loved (whether they are napping, with a partner, or in childcare) and allow yourself to sink into deep work.

Set Boundaries That Serve You (Not Just Everyone Else)

Guilt often creeps in when our boundaries are blurry. When work bleeds into dinner time, or when parenting responsibilities bleed into your dedicated work block, you feel scattered and ineffective.

Clear boundaries protect your peace.

Define “Work Hours”: Even if it’s just during nap time, define when you are “at work.” Communicate this to your family.

Create Physical Separation: If possible, have a dedicated workspace. Stepping into that space signals to your brain (and your kids) that it is work time. Stepping out of it signals that work is done.

Learn the Power of “Not Now”: It is okay to tell your child, “I cannot play right now because I am working, but I will play with you in 30 minutes.” This isn’t rejection; it’s boundary setting.

Stop Comparing Your Behind-the-Scenes to Their Highlight Reel

Social media is a breeding ground for mom guilt. You scroll through Instagram and see another mompreneur launching a six-figure course while baking organic sourdough bread and homeschooling three angelic children.

Suddenly, your frozen pizza dinner and chaotic email inbox feel like failures.

Stop. You are comparing your messy, real-life behind-the-scenes with someone else’s carefully curated highlight reel. You do not see the nanny they hired, the sleep consultant they used, or the meltdown that happened five minutes before the photo was taken.

Comparison is the thief of joy, but it is also the fuel of guilt. Curate your feed. Unfollow accounts that make you feel “less than.” Surround yourself digitally with women who share the messy, honest truth about this journey.

Embrace the Season You’re In

There will be seasons in your business where you are in “hustle mode” – launching a new product, rebranding, or scaling up. In these seasons, you might miss a few bedtimes. You might rely on more screen time than you’d like.

There will also be seasons in motherhood where you need to pull back – a new baby, a sickness, or summer break. In these seasons, your revenue might plateau. You might not post on social media for weeks.

Both are okay.

Guilt comes from trying to live in all seasons at once. Give yourself grace to ebb and flow. A slow month in business does not mean you are a bad entrepreneur. A busy month in business does not mean you are a bad mom. It just means you are human.

Build a Business That Aligns With Your Values

Ultimately, the best way to overcome mom guilt is to build a business that actually fits your life – not the other way around.

If you’re constantly stressed and guilty, it might be a sign that your business model needs to shift.

Are you offering services that require you to be on calls all day when you want to be with your toddler?

Are you chasing revenue goals that require 60-hour weeks when you only have 20 hours available?

You have the power to design a business that honors your role as a mother. You can create systems, automations, and offers that give you the freedom you crave.

This is exactly why I created the becoming Mompreneur course. It isn’t just about marketing strategies or sales funnels. It’s about building a sustainable, profitable business foundation that respects your time and your family values. It’s about giving you the tools to succeed without the burnout and without the guilt.

If you’re ready to stop apologizing for your ambition and start building a life you love, I invite you to join us. Let’s build your dream business, guilt-free.

Right now, I’m 7 months pregnant. My days are a mix of nursery planning, feeling the gentle (and sometimes not-so-gentle) kicks of my baby, running my business, and hanging with my six-year-old.

There’s a palpable sense of anticipation in the air – not just for the arrival of my new little one, but for the new chapter of life that comes with it. If you’re reading this, you might be in a similar boat. You’re dreaming of building a business that fits around your family, one that offers flexibility and fulfillment.

The desire to become a mompreneur often sparks during pregnancy. It’s a time of profound change, where your priorities shift dramatically. The thought of returning to a rigid 9-to-5 schedule can feel impossible when all you want is to soak in every moment with your baby.

But where do you even begin? How do you use this precious time before the baby arrives to set yourself up for success?

Pregnancy is the perfect time to manifest your business dreams. It’s a unique window of time to lay the groundwork, not by hustling yourself into exhaustion, but by planning with intention.

This guide will walk you through the practical steps you can take during your pregnancy to prepare for your journey as a mompreneur.

The Mindset Shift: From Employee to CEO

Before you write a single line of a business plan, the most important work begins in your mind. Transitioning from an employee mindset to a CEO mindset is crucial, and pregnancy is the ideal time to cultivate it.

Embrace Imperfect Action

Your life is about to be ruled by unpredictability. Naps will be missed, schedules will be derailed, and perfect plans will go out the window. Now is the time to let go of perfectionism.

Instead of waiting for the perfect idea or the perfect time, start taking small, imperfect steps. The goal is progress, not perfection.

Redefine Productivity

Forget the eight-hour workday. Your new reality will be built on focused sprints of activity. Productivity might look like drafting one email while your lunch heats up or brainstorming ideas during a middle-of-the-night bout of insomnia.

Start practicing this now. Challenge yourself to complete one small business-related task in just 15 minutes. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Lay the Foundation (Without the Burnout)

You don’t need to launch your full business before the baby comes. In fact, you probably shouldn’t. The goal is to build the runway so you’re ready for takeoff when the time is right. Here’s where to focus your energy.

Discover Your “Why”

What is driving you to do this? Is it the desire for financial freedom? The need for creative expression? The dream of being present for every school pickup?

Your “why” is the fuel that will get you through late nights and moments of doubt. Write it down and put it somewhere you can see it every day. This is your anchor.

Identify Your Profitable Passion

What are you good at? What do you love doing? What problems do you enjoy solving? Your business should live at the intersection of these three things.

Make a list of your skills, hobbies, and interests. Then, think about how you could turn one of them into a service or product that people would pay for. Don’t overthink it; just let yourself dream and explore the possibilities.

Do Your Market Research

Once you have a business idea (or a few), it’s time to see if it has legs. This doesn’t have to be an exhaustive process. Spend some time on Google, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Who are your potential competitors? What are they doing well? What gap in the market can you fill? This research will help you refine your idea and understand your ideal customer.

Practical Planning for a New Reality

With your foundation in place, you can move on to the practical steps that will make your transition into mompreneurship smoother.

Simplify Your Finances

Starting a business often means a period of fluctuating income. Use your pregnancy to get a clear picture of your family’s finances. Create a budget and look for areas where you can cut back. Figure out how much you need to earn to cover your essential expenses.

Having this clarity will reduce your stress and allow you to make smarter business decisions.

Build a Minimalist Business Plan

You don’t need a 50-page document. A simple one-page business plan is all you need to get started. It should outline:

▷ Your Business Idea: What you sell and who you sell it to.
▷ Your Financial Goals: How much you want to earn in your first year.
▷ Your Marketing Strategy: How you will find your first clients.
▷ Your Action Steps: The first three steps you will take to get started.

Learn One Key Skill

Don’t try to learn everything at once. You’ll just end up overwhelmed. Instead, identify one skill that will be crucial for your business and focus on learning that.

Maybe it’s social media marketing, SEO copywriting, or bookkeeping. There are tons of free resources, podcasts, and blogs you can use to build your knowledge.

Prepare for Life with a Newborn CEO

Your baby will be your new boss, and their schedule is non-negotiable. Preparing for this reality now will save your sanity later.

Establish a Support System

You cannot do this alone. Talk to your partner, family, and friends about your business dreams. Let them know how they can support you.

Could your partner handle bath time so you can have a 30-minute work session? Could a friend watch the baby for an hour while you take a client call? Building your village is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Set Realistic Expectations

You will not build an empire overnight. In the early days, a “win” might be sending a single email or drafting one social media post.

▷ Celebrate these small victories. They’re the building blocks of your future success.

▷ Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. You are navigating two huge life transitions at once: becoming a mother and becoming a business owner.

Your Roadmap to Becoming a Mompreneur

This journey of planning and preparation is exhilarating, but it can also feel isolating. You don’t have to navigate it on your own. I poured all the lessons I learned from my own journey – from starting out to building a six-figure business while raising my oldest son – into the Becoming Mompreneur course.

It is the step-by-step roadmap I wish I had when I was in your shoes. It’s designed to guide you through finding your purpose, mastering your time, and building a profitable business without sacrificing these precious family moments. It’s the framework you need to build a life where you can be both a present parent and a successful entrepreneur.

If you’re ready to turn your dreams into a clear, actionable plan, this is your next step.

Dreaming of trading your office commute for morning cuddles? You’re not alone.

Many moms, especially those who are pregnant or postpartum, feel a powerful pull to be home with their kids. The thought of returning to a rigid 9-to-5 schedule can feel impossible, yet the desire to contribute financially and pursue personal passions remains strong.

This is where the mompreneur life comes in.

Making the leap from a steady job to starting your own business can feel overwhelming, but it is entirely possible with the right plan. This guide provides a clear, step-by-step path to help you transition from a traditional career to a fulfilling life as a mompreneur. You can build a business you love without sacrificing precious time with your family.

Here’s how you can start making that dream a reality.

Step 1: Find Your “Why” and Define Your Purpose

Before you hand in your notice, it’s crucial to get clear on your motivation. Your “why” will be the fuel that keeps you going during challenging moments.

Are you seeking more flexibility? Do you want to create a business around a long-held passion? Is your goal to build a legacy for your children?

Once you understand your motivation, you can begin to define your purpose. This isn’t just about what you’ll sell; it’s about the impact you want to make. Think about your unique skills, talents, and experiences.

Ask yourself these questions:

▷ What problems do I enjoy solving?
▷ What topics could I talk about for hours?
▷ What skills have I developed in my career or personal life that could help others?
▷ What kind of business would fit seamlessly into my life as a mom?

Your answers will point you toward a business idea that feels both profitable and personally meaningful. This clarity is the foundation of a successful mompreneur journey.

Step 2: Create a Financial Runway

One of the biggest hurdles in leaving a 9-to-5 is the loss of a stable income. It’s important to create a financial safety net before you take the plunge. This “runway” will give you the time and space to build your business without the constant stress of needing to make money immediately.

Start by assessing your current financial situation. Calculate your monthly household expenses and determine how much you need to cover your family’s basic needs. From there, aim to save at least 3-6 months’ worth of living expenses.

Here are a few ways to build your financial runway:

▷ Start your business as a side hustle: Begin working on your business during evenings and weekends while you still have your full-time job. This allows you to test your idea and start generating income before you fully commit.

▷ Reduce non-essential spending: Temporarily cut back on things like dining out, subscriptions, or shopping to accelerate your savings.

▷ Look for freelance opportunities: Use your existing skills to take on freelance projects that can bring in extra cash to add to your savings.

Having a financial plan will provide peace of mind and empower you to make decisions from a place of confidence, not fear.

Step 3: Master the Art of Time Management

As a mom, you’re already a master of multitasking. But when you add a business to the mix, effective time management becomes non-negotiable. The key isn’t to find more hours in the day but to become intentional with the time you have.

Forget the idea that you need long, uninterrupted blocks of time to be productive. As a mompreneur, you’ll learn to thrive in the small pockets of time you get throughout the day.

Here are some strategies that work:

▷ Time-Block Your Day: Schedule specific blocks for work, family time, and personal care. Even a 30-minute work block during naptime can lead to significant progress.

▷ Prioritize High-Impact Tasks: Each day, identify the one or two tasks that will move your business forward the most. Tackle those first.

▷ Be Present in Each Moment: When it’s family time, put your phone away and be fully engaged. When it’s work time, focus solely on your business tasks. This separation helps reduce mom guilt and increases productivity.

Remember, the goal is to create a schedule that works for you and your family, not to replicate a traditional 9-to-5 workday at home.

Step 4: Build Your Business Foundation

With your purpose defined and a plan in place, it’s time to start building the essential pieces of your business. This phase can feel daunting, but breaking it down into smaller, manageable steps makes it much less intimidating.

Focus on these foundational elements first:

▷ Choose a Business Name and Structure: Pick a name that reflects your brand and decide on a legal structure (like a sole proprietorship or LLC).

▷ Identify Your Ideal Client: Get crystal clear on who you want to serve. What are their needs, pain points, and desires?

▷ Develop a Simple Offer: Start with one core product or service. You can always expand later, but focusing on one thing allows you to perfect it and market it effectively.

▷ Establish an Online Presence: Create a simple website or a professional social media profile where potential clients can find you and learn more about what you do.

Don’t strive for perfection. The goal is to get started and build momentum. You can refine and improve as you go.

Your Roadmap to a Thriving Mompreneur Life

Transitioning from a 9-to-5 to running your own business while raising a family is a huge undertaking. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
I’ll be honest with you: I did not grow up dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur. Ask little me what I wanted to be and you’d probably hear “artist,” “teacher,” or “owner of twelve dogs.”

But “accidental entrepreneur”? That’s a new one, even for me.

My business didn’t start with a flashy launch or a color-coded plan. It started with me, hunched over a laptop, simply wondering, “Should I keep cobbling together part-time gigs… or go ALL IN?” Some days it felt brave. Other days? Totally bonkers. But I took the leap, and thank goodness I did.

There was one of those face-in-the-mirror moments we all dread – am I really gonna try? Or just keep playing safe and small? I was terrified: What if I lose all my clients? What if everything crashes and burns? But deep down, I had a scrappy stubbornness (and a healthy dose of caffeine) that told me: I’ll figure it out. I always do.

So here’s my real-life, changing-diapers-during-Zooms story: how I navigated the glorious circus of new motherhood while building my SEO copywriting baby, simple sprout studio, into a legit six-figure biz.

Spoiler: It was not glamorous. But it was so worth it.

The Early Days: Hustle Without a Handbook

Flashback to 2013. I had all the time in the world, the energy of a caffeinated squirrel as a 20-something, and not a single clue what things like “work-life balance” or “diaper genies” were.

Just me, SEO know-how, and way too many open browser tabs. I dove headfirst into the world of SEO copywriting, convinced I could help other business owners get found on Google and sound like humans at the same time (no shade, tech bros).

Cut to 2019: Enter baby. My business is booming, but so is my schedule – 40, sometimes 50 hours a week. And then, boom: newborn in arms, bags under my eyes, and a calendar that suddenly meant nothing.

The old “just work more” trick wasn’t going to cut it. Everything was different, and no one had mailed me the “Here’s how to run a business and keep a tiny human alive” handbook.

A day in my life? Part marathon, part sitcom. Feeding, soothing, meetings, diaper changes, emails, coffee, repeat. I scoured the internet for advice and got a vague “you just do it!” Gee, thanks, I thought, as I tried to type with one hand and keep the other one on burp patrol.

Quick realization: the 40-hour grind was a no-go. But 15-20 hours? That I could handle! I’ve stuck to it – and truly, it’s been a lifesaver.

Facing the Realities of Mompreneurship

Let’s not sugarcoat it: bringing together mom life and business life? It sometimes felt like juggling spatulas and live chickens on zero sleep – with a meeting starting in five.

Postpartum anxiety, cluster feeding, Zoom calls with suit-clad C-suites while my baby tried to audition for a soundtrack in the background… you name it, we’ve been there. I’m pretty sure there’s not a single spot in my house I haven’t used as an impromptu office or nap zone.

Time management? Ha! My best-laid schedules were torn up every time a nap schedule dropped, or preschool started, or someone woke up with the sniffles.

Self-doubt? Oh, it showed up for work every single day, whispering, Why would anyone hire you, drool-stained and scattered? But then, a client would send a thank-you or a glowing review, and suddenly the hard work was so worth it.

The big lesson: it’s never about having zero struggles. It’s about learning to dance with them, sometimes literally, because walking with a baby in a carrier while typing is an Olympic event.

The Strategies That Changed Everything

Magic? Nope. (But if you have some, send it my way!) What got me through were real strategies, hard-won and honestly not all that glamorous.

1. Embracing a “Less is More” Mindset

My biggest aha? Busy does not mean productive. Just because my to-do list had 37 things didn’t mean they all mattered.

So, I trimmed the fat: focused on the high-impact tasks, let the other stuff slide, and found faith in the fine art of saying “no.” My new motto: outsource, automate, or let it rot.

2. Mastering Time-Blocking

Those magical pockets of time – nap sprints, late night sessions, whenever the stars aligned – became my work goldmines.

I set boundaries like a knight sets shields: “I take calls only while my son’s at school!” And guess what? The world didn’t end. Clients actually respected it.

3. Asking for & Investing in Help

Somewhere along the way, I realized: I cannot, and do not want to, do it alone. Hiring help turned out to be my sanity-saver.

Bringing in outside childcare (a few precious preschool hours a week!) meant I could focus – and, okay, sometimes just pee in peace. Those were my power hours.

4. Shifting My Mindset

Flawless is fiction; done is delicious. I worked hard on letting go of perfectionism (work in progress!) and made self-care non-negotiable.

Fitness, healthy food, sleep – boring, but true. The healthier I was, the better everything got, from client calls to mom life.

The Six-Figure Breakthrough

Now for the “OMG, really?!” part. That first year after my son arrived, I slashed my working hours – from 40+ down to 15-20 – and I doubled my income. (Read that again!)

Six figures? Got there not long after. And yes, I threw myself a solo dance party each time Stripe pinged.

These days, my business hums along thanks to an awesome network and a good mix of regulars and referrals. More importantly? I’ve built a life I genuinely love.

I’m there for pick-ups, sick days, vacations (laptop always in tow), and random cuddle-fests. It’s not a Pinterest-perfect story, but it’s all mine.

If I could go back, I’d whisper to my new-mom self: Enjoy those squishy-baby days. Relax! The business will be there, and so will you. If you’re reading this and dreaming of starting something, my advice is simple: just do it—and make sure you love it enough to stick with it on the hard days.

Your Roadmap to Becoming a Mompreneur

You don’t have to figure this out the “hard way” like I did – swimming through sleep deprivation and endless trial-and-error. That’s exactly why I created the Becoming Mompreneur course.

I put everything I’ve learned (including the disasters and the wins and the awkward Zoom calls with a baby on my lap) into this framework that blends business, mom life, and sanity-saving systems.

Real talk, real strategies, real community. We tackle everything from time management to mindset and purpose, with room for grace and imperfection.

Ready to build a business and life you actually want to live—from diaper changes to discovery calls? This is your step.

Your dream is beautiful: rocking your baby with one hand while effortlessly running a thriving business with the other.

You imagine a life of financial freedom, creative fulfillment, and endless flexibility, all without missing a single one of your child’s precious milestones. But the reality can feel… messy. How do you find the time to build a business when you’re navigating sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and the overwhelming love and responsibility of being a new mom?

Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship isn’t about “doing it all.” It’s about creating a sustainable system that allows you to nurture both your family and your professional ambitions. It requires a shift in mindset, a dose of self-compassion, and a handful of practical strategies to manage your time, energy, and priorities.

This guide will walk you through the essential steps to find that delicate balance and build a life where you can be both a present parent and a successful business owner.

Redefine What Productivity Looks Like

The first step to finding balance is to let go of the traditional 9-to-5 concept of productivity. Your workday will no longer be a solid eight-hour block. Instead, it will be a collection of focused sprints scattered throughout the day.

Embrace “Nap Time” Hustle

For many mompreneurs, the most productive hours of the day are when the house is quiet. This means leveraging nap times, early mornings before the baby wakes up, or late evenings after bedtime.

These small, focused windows of time can be incredibly effective if you plan them well. Instead of trying to tackle a massive to-do list, identify one or two high-impact tasks you can complete in a 60-90 minute session.

Celebrate Small Wins

You won’t build an empire overnight, and that’s okay. Did you send one important email? Draft a social media post? Research a competitor?

These are all wins. Acknowledging and celebrating these small steps builds momentum and keeps you motivated. Progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Master Your Time with Intentional Planning

As a mom, your time is your most precious resource. Without a clear plan, the day can easily get swallowed up by the immediate needs of your child, leaving no room for your business. Intentional time management is your superpower.

The Power of Time-Blocking

Time-blocking is a game-changer for mompreneurs. It involves dedicating specific blocks of time to specific tasks. At the beginning of the week, map out your schedule.

1. Block in Non-Negotiables First: This includes feeding times, naps, playtime with your baby, and appointments.

2. Schedule Work Blocks: Identify your “power hours” (like nap times) and assign your most important business tasks to them.

3. Include Personal Time: Block out time for yourself, whether it’s for a shower, a short walk, or just 15 minutes to drink your coffee in peace. If it’s not on the schedule, it’s less likely to happen.

Set Realistic Daily Goals

It’s easy to overestimate what you can accomplish in a day. Instead of a long, daunting to-do list, set just 1-3 priorities for your business each day.

This “Top 3” approach ensures you are making consistent progress on what truly matters without feeling overwhelmed. Ask yourself, “What tasks will move my business forward the most?” and focus on those.

Protect Your Energy Fiercely

Starting a business while caring for a baby is a marathon, not a sprint. Your physical and mental energy are finite resources that you must protect fiercely to avoid burnout.

Prioritize Self-Care (Even When It Feels Impossible)

Self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity for a functioning mompreneur. It doesn’t have to be a spa day or a long yoga class. It can be simple, small acts of kindness to yourself throughout the day.

▷ Hydrate and Nourish: Keep a water bottle and healthy snacks within reach.

▷ Move Your Body: A 10-minute walk around the block can do wonders for your mood and energy.

▷ Practice Mindfulness: Take a few deep breaths before you start a work session to clear your mind.

▷ Set Boundaries: Learn to say “no” to commitments that drain your energy and don’t align with your priorities.

Ask for & Accept Help

You are not meant to do this alone. Whether it’s your partner, a family member, or a trusted friend, communicate your needs. Could someone watch the baby for an hour so you can take a client call? Can your partner handle bath time while you wrap up a project? Building a support system is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Streamline & Simplify Your Life

The more you can simplify your daily routines, the more mental space you’ll have for your business and your family.

▷ Meal Prep: Spend an hour on Sunday prepping snacks and simple meals for the week.

▷Automate Where Possible: Use tools to automate social media posting, email responses, or appointment scheduling.

▷Create a Tidy Workspace: Having a designated, organized workspace—even if it’s just a corner of a room—helps you mentally switch into “work mode” more easily.

Here’s Your Roadmap

Finding balance as a new mom and entrepreneur is a journey of continuous adjustment. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own through trial and error. My journey from a 50-hour workweek to a 15-hour workweek – all while doubling my income and raising my son – taught me exactly what it takes.

I poured all of those lessons into the Becoming Mompreneur course. It’s the perfect tool to help you find balance, providing a step-by-step roadmap to build a profitable business without sacrificing the precious moments with your family.
