A comedian called H Anthony Hildebrand, who I took some portrait shots in January (see post here), has achieved the Holy Grail of the comedy world and managed to secure himself a set at this year’s Edinburgh Festival. This is no flash in the pan gig, as he will be performing for a whole month, with only one day off. If you are going to the festival and happen to like deadpan comedy and drawings, then I thoroughly suggest that you go see him. You can find out all about him on the Edinburgh Festival online guide (also here and here), read about it in the official guide or check his website where you can find all manner of information about him. Not only is he very funny but he is a lovely chap too – I wish him the best luck for the Festival.

I edited the first batch of photos from the Pennywise gig last night, and this is my favourite one of Projekt.

It was the first “big venue” which I’ve shot in, which was not only faciniating for me, but also meant I learnt a LOT. I mostly shoot smaller venues and have always aspired to shoot bigger venues, thinking that they would have much better lighting and be much easier to shoot in, but as I found out on Sunday this really isn’t the case. Even with all the stage lighting I was really at the limits of my camera – f2.8, ISO 1600 and underexposing by a stop, and I was still getting mostly blurry images. As a result I think primes, or a camera which has less noise at high ISO (like a 5D M2) are the way forward. Luckily I’m back at the same venue in a few weeks time to shoot another gig, so I’ll have a chance to test my theory then.

Taken at 2RArt’s Canvas Underground II night at Concrete in Shoreditch on Friday. In addition to Projekt, the night also featured performances from 2000 Fast Women and the “Swing Hop Sensation” The Correspondents. The event also featured an exhibition of artwork from Daniel Lumbini, Finalfrontier, 55TAIS and Dave King.

Back at the end of February, my buddy Chris and I travelled up to Northamptonshire to spend an truely excellent day and informative day learning about the nuances of portrait photography with Adam Duckworth. Encouraged by Chris putting up his photos from the day on his site last night, I’ve finally got around to sorting through my photos and uploading them too.

The model is Ashli Rossettii, who is very talented and extremely patient, I’m sure she’ll go far.

I’ve uploaded some more shots from the day onto my Flickr site and also added some to the portraits section of my portfolio.

I’m delighted to announce that some of my music photography is going to be featured in an exhibition later this month in London. I will be exhibiting a few pieces of my work alongside fellow music photographer Chris Worden at Miss Q‘s in Earls Court on the 18th March. Aside from the exhibition, there will also be some live music from Rubber Kiss Goodbye, 2000fastwomen and The Foxes which should all add up to an excellent night. The very funny H Anthony Hildebrand. Taken in the wonderfully untouched Balham Bowls Club.

I met Anthony a couple of months back as he was organising a night called “An Event of Some Kind” which a friend’s band, Witness to the Beard, were playing at. I was there taking photos of Witness to the Beard, but hung about to watch the rest of the night, which included the excellent band Don’t Tread on Spiders and comedians Tom Basden and Eric Lampaert. You can check out photos from the night here. Anyway, Anthony is putting together some applications to perform at Edinburgh festival and needed some photos for this, so asked if I could help. So, here is one of the resulting photos from a quick dirty photoshoot in the Balham Bowls Club last Sunday morning, which involved a lightstand, a shoot-though umbrella, at 580ExII, some Cactus triggers, a pint of Guinness and a large pot of coffee.

I wish Anthony all the best and hopefully you can go see him in Edinburgh in the summer. If you cant wait until then, you can check out his MySpace page or head along to the next Event of Some Kind on the 12 February.
