Plainville Fire Company: Four Months of Silence and a Failing Model

On January 5th, the Plainville Town Council appointed me to the Fire Company. It is now early May, and I have still received zero communication, no training, and no follow-up whatsoever from the department.

This is more than just poor administration.

The Plainville Fire Company currently has only 40 active volunteers serving a town of 17,000 residents. Despite this dangerously low number, there has been virtually no visible effort to recruit new members from Plainville’s growing Asian, Hispanic, and Black communities, which make up roughly 17% of the town.

As an Asian American resident, EMT-certified, and an active member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, I find this lack of outreach and accountability deeply concerning.

Plainville taxpayers have a right to know where their money is being spent. Are you comfortable with your tax dollars funding an organization that is clearly inefficient, failing to recruit, and unable to even follow up with new members?

The question every Plainville resident should be asking is simple: Is this acceptable?
