I’ve been having fun with painting some personal GW2 inspired portraits. This is a Seraph inspired portrait of a warrior I still have to create (I have far too many characters already!) What is included:

If you want to replace a font with a specified font (that is free for commercial use or you’ve paid the rights for)

Dragon and the Sword cover art

This is a cover illustration I finished right at the beginning of the year. I love having the chance to paint dragons – I’ve only done a few, and of course this is just the head, but still, I’m pretty pleased with how she came out. I decided to keep the background quite simple and painterly so that the characters became the focus.

This is the final cover art and layout. The layout is slightly modified from the first two books, which were set in a Classical fantasy world (think Ancient Rome/ Greece)

The initial sketch. I knew I had to do a proper photo study for Summer, the female character. Maybe this means I can justify buying a sword and some swashbuckling garb. Jeans, booths and a flowy shirt had to suffice

Ever wondered how I get from sketch to painting (assuming I don’t have a photo to work from?

Yup that’s me… no make-up, crazy hair, awesome fashion sense :P

Sparkles and Femme Thou Art

I’ve got a new painting up for auction – starting at $100 which is a steal for one of my original watercolour paintings! Go over to the Femme Thou Art collective page over at Facebook, go to my painting and place a comment to start the bidding. I wanted the chance to paint a sky scene and something really simple. The colours are really hard to capture so I’m inserting a little clip where you can hear my Australian accent :)

Finally figured out the direction of the eyes. I have to repaint the guys face cos… mongy at the moment!

Cada Female Character Portrait

I recently had the pleasure of working on a character commission portrait doing my favourite type of character – female warrior/ ranger kind of characters. The character had previously been started by another artist who was sadly unable to complete the work, so I was given a great concept sketch which was really loose, but gave me some great starting points. The client pointed out some actresses the character reminded her of, and I worked from there.

This is a digitally tinted and textured painting, which started with a pencil sketch on tracing paper. I love sketching on the velum like surface. I then transfer and clean up the sketch in Photoshop, adding a background. A tinted, textured paper is added, then I add the colours.

Original sketch – This is purely pencil, hence all the smudges :)

An alternative sketch where I did the head and some details in Photoshop, while tracing over the original sketch to change the costume a bit. The pose was a little closer to the original concept, but the costume was not – I was a bit worried the first sketch would be too simple.
