We have another edition packed full with useful articles, tips and news.

Al Digby gives an overview of how relationship marketing can make you stand out from the crowd and hold on to your clients for longer. As usual we have a guest article, this month contributed by Sales Engine who offer up some tips on how to get your sales pitch just right. We have a rundown from this year’s Nido Fun day and all the latest Nido News and lastly a series of useful videos which outline the digital tools your business should be using right now. Enjoy!

Why is relationship marketing important?

OK we all know that times are tough, budgets are stretched and businesses everywhere are feeling the pinch. You could be forgiven for thinking there is little positivity left as we’re constantly bombarded with stories of doom and gloom every time we open a browser or switch on the television. Ultimately we are all being forced to look closely at how we operate and asses how we can improve, consolidate and streamline to help the bottom line. Marketing is one area that companies can mistakenly sacrifice when faced with adversity but this can be extremely costly and lead to your competitors increasing their market share and clients not receiving the service they deserve. Read Full Article »

Pitch Perfect

Getting in front of potential clients is hard enough so once you are there ensuring your pitch is right is crucial to closing a sale. Steve Robinson from Sales Engine gives some simple tips on how to pitch at the right level to make sure you close the sale every time! Let's think about how much time and effort goes into getting you to that vital point in the sales cycle - the pitch. Read Article »

Nido Fun Day

On July 17th we held our fourth annual Nido Marketing Fun Day. Due to the torrential rain that plagued us for most of that week we were forced to make some last minute changes including an alternative location and completely different activities. Nothing major then!!! Fortunately we had a backup plan so instead of fun in the sun in Stanmer Park it was beers and games in the pub! Event Information »

Nido News

We have some exciting news about the introduction of our new range of services, all geared around helping companies to really push the accelerator on their business development activities and close more sales. Details of our heroic road warriors who braved this year's London to Brighton Bike Ride. And for all you designers out there, some information about the South Coast Design Forum. More Information »

Digital Marketing Tools you need to be using

Back in March at our last Nido Marketing and Sales network in Gatwick, we were lucky enough to have Ben Potter, Sales and Marketing Director from digital marketing agency Leapfrogg, talking about digital and social media tools that your company should be using. We thought this would be the ideal opportunity to practice what Ben preached and recorded the talk which we have now uploaded to YouTube so we can share it with you all. Watch the Videos »

www.nidomarketing.co.uk
info@nidomarketing.co.uk
http://twitter.com/NidoMarketing

Latest Updates from Nido TV!!

At out last Nido Marketing & Sales Network in March we were delighted to have Ben Potter from Digital Marketing Agency Leapfrogg giving a talk on tools for online marketing. Now even more employers will have access to funded training that enhances their leadership and management skills and in turn nurtures business growth.

What is the Leadership and Management Programme

The programme, funded by the Learning and Skills Council, is specifically aimed at business owners/managers responsible for the direction of an organisation, including private, franchise, public and voluntary bodies employing between 5 and 249 staff.

Each employer can benefit from up to £1,000 of grant support. The first £500 does not require a contribution from the employer and should be used for key directors. If you want a further subsequent £500 it must be ‘match funded’ by the employer and is available for key members of management.

How to qualify

To be eligible for the programme your organisation must:

- Employ between 5 to 249 people
- Not already have received Leadership & Management funding support (under Train to Gain)
- Must be from an EU country, or have lived in an EU country for the last 3 years

NOTE: Funding was previously unavailable to businesses that had attained the Investor in People standard. Now funding is available irrespective of whether you have the standard or not.

How it works

A Specialist Adviser will carry out a free impartial Individual Needs Analysis and help you develop a Personal Action Plan which clearly identifies your requirements. Together with your Adviser you will agree on the best solutions to meet the development needs you have identified.

When you have undertaken your training you can apply to have the costs reimbursed up to a total of £1000 (including VAT).

For more info contact Clive Bonny clive@consult-smp.com telephone 0208 876 4211 or on his mobile 07973 799153.

Clive designs and delivers programmes for clients onsite to avoid costs of absence and can refer you to a broker for your grant.

http://www.nidomarketing.co.uk/

Stress within the workplace

Identifying and helping to relieve stress in the workplace

With everything that is going on in the world around us it’s hard not to feel the strain. Recession, tightening our belts, budget cut-backs, redundancies, hitting targets, the list goes on and so does the stress that goes with it.

BUT it doesn’t have to be like that…

Studies from the ISMA (International Stress Management Association) showed that 48% of people said that stress was caused due to lack of management commitment.

That means that nearly half of all stress could be prevented by management being more aware and committing to help their team cope in testing times. For all you ‘old school’ managers out there whose opinion is that people should just ‘get on with it’ and ‘stop complaining’ being more aware of the implications of stress could push it up your list of priorities. As a result of not dealing with this, your company could well suffer from low morale and quality of work leading to a higher staff turnover, higher recruitment and training fees, reduced productivity and hence lower revenue.

NOT DEALING WITH STRESS WILL COST YOU MONEY!!

An astounding 12.8 million working days a year are now lost to work-related stress alone, with 58% of workers complaining of job stress - UK HSE report

So, to start with a few simple things to look out for…

● People being a bit short tempered and irritable
● Deteriorating work relationships
● Increased sick days for things like headaches, stomach aches etc
● Complaints of lack of sleep

This may all seem very obvious but when people are stressed they can act strangely and it can be easier to just ignore it and hope it will go away. If managers are feeling the strain too – which I am sure you all are – looking out for the well being of your team may just seem like another thing you are responsible for… and you are….

HOWEVER it’s not all doom and gloom – we are all in it together and this doesn’t mean we all don’t enjoy a challenge, something to get out teeth into and really drive us.
It’s about balance – having the support needed to deal with demands and knowing that there is meaning to what is being done as well as an interest.

After all, can anyone honestly say they have never felt the strain? Have any of us just sailed through work without any worries?

So what can be done? At Nido we hope to prevent the team suffering from stress in the workplace… we may have slipped up in the past but we make a real effort to support and look out for each other. Things we do include:

● Daily team catch ups
● Drinks in the office every Friday afternoon – a bit more relaxed than usual…
● Monthly team outings
● Great offices!! (High ceilings, full front windows, plants…)
● Real, quality coffee machine
● Duvet day allowance for those days when you might just fancy a day at home
● Monthly staff outings
● Pinball machine

So what do you do to combat stress at work?

Whether an employee or an employer everyone has their own ways of handling the pressure - Let us know what you are doing and let’s all help each other to remain positive in these challenging times.

http://www.nidomarketing.co.uk/

May News Letter

Welcome to the Nido Marketing May Newsletter

Welcome to the May edition of the Nido Marketing Newsletter. Luckily for Ann her name emerged as the winner and you can read her testimonial on our website: http://www.nidomarketing.co.uk/facilitate.html

Thanks to everyone that took part in the survey, your participation is much appreciated by all the Nido Marketing team.

www.nidomarketing.co.uk

March Newsletter

Client Retention & Customer Satisfaction

When times are tough, it is more important than ever that businesses provide the best possible service to their customers to ensure they don’t lose them to competitors. Research has shown that 80% of companies believe they provide a superior client experience but only 8% of their clients agree*.Finding out how our customers feel about us means that not only can we adapt and improve our service and therefore our retention rate, it can also give us the chance to up-sell or cross-sell to a marketing that already knows and trusts us. At Nido we have seen a growing number of companies approaching us to help discover their clients’ perceptions of their service and delivery levels. Finding out weak spots, areas for improvement or what clients really value about them can all help to reduce attrition or defection to competitors. Read Full Article »

Nido Marketing & Sales Network lands in Gatwick

Nido Marketing launched in March 2008 a quarterly learning and networking hub, aimed at sales and marketing professionals. So a big well done to Rosie, Ben and the rest of the team!

We will no doubt at the awards again next year hoping for a win!

www.nidomarketing.co.uk

Is this a good time to talk?

We’ve all had the dreaded call from the contact centre, the monotone voice reads through a lengthy script down the phone, disengaging the recipient and ruining any chance of them buying into the idea, in some cases even damaging the brand.

The worst tend to be inflicted on the consumer by loan companies who advertise in the back of The Sun.

“Hello my name is Derek from ABC Finance, part of the Yabber Yadda group of companies regulated by the Financial Services Authority, I’m calling today because you’ve been selected blah blah blah…”

Then about 3 minutes later you finally get the chance to say “no, thanks”.

Ultimately, there has been no attempt to relax the recipient or let them speak, creating immediate barriers and adopting an obvious carpet-bombing approach.

What if you were fork-to-mouth about to take the first bite of your favourite meal? style=" font-style: italic;font-family:Arial;font-size:13px;">

Nido had a chat with Shelley Fagence-Traynor to find out what makes her blood boil when she receives a cold call.

Given Shelley’s company First Time Response answers many calls every day for clients, she’s in a great position to pour scorn on the more abrasive elements in the industry…

As a person who receives sales calls on average 20/30 times a day my feelings are mixed. This is mainly due to the incompetence of the companies employing the 'wrong representatives' to do the calling.

I have experienced some wonderful sales calls and have complimented the person on the other end of the phone for their polite approach. This hits the nail on the head! If the caller is prepared to be polite, understanding and willing to listen then they have succeeded in getting my attention.

When they demand to speak to the person in charge and then hang up when the information they are given is not what they wanted to hear, then they fail.

When it takes a minute to actually hear another voice on the line which is crackly and distorted making them incomprehensible, then they fail.

When they call politely and befriend, listen and adhere to advice given then they succeed! I myself have been in the shoes of the sales person calling companies to promote services which gives me an understanding of the reaction from the recipients. Taking notes of names, times and who you spoke to when and about what is a major asset when calling back.

Makes the follow up much more personal and on a friendly level. Just what the business asks for.

Shelley Fagence-Traynor is MD at First Time Response in Crawley.
