Portugal head coach Paulo Bento named a provisional 30-man FIFA World Cup squad with Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Moutinho headlining the list.

Notably, 11 players come from the Portuguese Liga featuring predominantly from Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Braga. Seven players ply their trade in the Spanish La Liga, while the others play in Turkey, England, Russia, Italy, Germany, France and Ukraine.

Bento will have to cut his squad down to 23 by 2 June ahead of their Brazil 2014 campaign. The Portuguese are in Group G with Germany, USA and Ghana, and will kick-off their tournament against the Germans on 16 June in Salvador.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah called up German-Ghanaian striker Kevin-Prince Boateng and brothers Jordan and Andre Ayew to his 26-player provisional FIFA World Cup squad.

The trio, who all sat out last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, are new additions to the squad with both Boateng and Andre Ayew having starred for the Ghanaians in their run to the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals where they lost on penalties to Uruguay.

USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann named his 30-man provisional squad from which he’ll select his 23-player FIFA World Cup squad.

The most notable omission is D.C. United forward Eddie Johnson, a regular in the United States’ qualifying campaign in North and Central America who has experienced a dip in form.

USA are drawn in Group G along with Ghana, who reached the quarter-finals in the 2010 edition, UEFA EURO 2012 semi-finalists Portugal and one of the favourites for the trophy, Germany. They will kick off their campaign on 16 June against Ghana.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari on Wednesday unveiled the 23 men he trusts can deliver a sixth FIFA World Cup ahead of this year’s event starting 12 June on home soil. Having already led the most successful nation in the tournament’s history to their fifth title at Korea/Japan 2002, Scolari is now out to lay the ghosts of 1950, when A Seleção lost the trophy match to Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro.

His list contained no major surprises, although AC Milan forward Robinho missed the cut along with former FIFA Ballon d’Or winners Ronaldinho and Kaka, an echo of his decision to dump Romario more than a decade ago. Robinho missed the cut despite facing Chile in a recent friendly. With Scolari having said for months he knew in his own mind who he wanted to pick, save for one or two exceptions, the focus was on who would provide back-up for a first XI who saw off world champions Spain in last year’s FIFA Confederations Cup warm-up.

The event, billed as The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, is considered one of the three most significant motorsports events in the world.

The 98th running of the race is scheduled this Sunday afternoon May 25, 2014 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tony Kanaan is the defending champion.

The Indianapolis 500 race starts at 1:00 pm ET.

The month of May 2014 activities will open with the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday, May 10. The track is scheduled to open for practice on Sunday May 11. Time trials is scheduled for May 17-18, and the final practice, traditional dubbed “Carb Day,” will be held Friday May 23. A support race, the Freedom 100 for the Indy Lights series also will be held on Carb Day.

In the U.S., ABC TV will broadcast both feature races in the IndyCar Series during the Indianapolis 500 meeting. ABC will also carry time trials for the first time since 2008.

Long-time NASCAR play-by-play announcer Allen Bestwick will make his Indy 500 debut for 2014. Previous anchor Marty Reid was fired by the network last September 29, 2013 following an error during the broadcast of the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kentucky 300.

Carb Day coverage will be carried by NBC Sports Network and Bob Varsha will serve as announcer.

Paul Page anchor in the radio booth, replacing Mike King, who resigned after 2013.

The Champions League Semifinals draw was held Friday April 11, 2014 at UEFA’s House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland which was streamed live on UEFA.com. The first legs will be played on Tuesday April 22 and Wednesday April 23, 2014, and the second legs on the following week, Tuesday April 29 and Wednesday April 30, 2014.

The knockout phase of the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League began last February 18, 2014 and will conclude on May 24, 2014 with the final game to be played at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal.
