How to Reach Kannur

By Air Kannur is easily reachable by air as the nearest airport is the Kozhikode Airport, which is located at a distance of 93 kilometers from Kannur to the south. The Mangalore Airport is 220 kilometers from Nift Kannur By Rail/ Train Kannur has its own railway station and is an important junction in Kerala. Trains from many neighboring states also pass through this town to reach other places. By Road Kannur is well linked by a wide network of roads and can be reached from anywhere in Kerala.

Cars are available from railway station and bus stand. Normal charge is approximately Rs. 400.
By Auto
Many autos are available from Kannur. Normal charge is Rs. 250 approximately.
By Bus:

Delhi-based, fashion designer - Gurvinder Arora recently opened ‘AG Design’ studio in Noida and Kanpur.

The collection in his new studio includes, designs for men and women starting from kaftans to churidaars and kurtis and from skirts, tops to leisure wear trousers, shirts, capris and many more.

Gurvinder is a pass out from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Techology (NIFT) – and has been in the fashion industry for over 10 years now.

His design studio will provide a wide range of new concepts in terms of fashion, fabrics, embroideries and silhouettes.

AG Design Studio will cater to the Indian as well as Middle-East and European market. The collections incorporate fabrics ranging from cottons to chiffons, silks to georgettes, linens and many more.

Knitwear Design is emerging as a growth area in the new world order. The Knitwear Design specialisation offered by Department of Fashion & Textiles is structured keeping in view the future requirements of the Indian knitting industry. Year 1

Common Foundation Programme in Design

Year 2

Students will be introduced to Fashion Art & Illustration, Basic Weaving & Hand Knitting. Textile Science, Processing & Knitting Technology. They will also get inputs in Computer Applications, Traditional Textiles, Pattern Making & Construction, Surface Techniques and Product Development project. The second year will culminate into an industry internship.

Year 3

Students will get further inputs in Fashion Art & Illustration, Pattern Making, Draping & Construction, Computerised Knitting, Product Realisation, Merchandising & Marketing and Advanced Knitting Technology. The students will also undertake a Craft Survey and Documentation project along with other design projects.

Year 4

Students will undertake a number of elective subjects to fine tune their understanding of the industry and also an independent research based project. In the final semester, students will undertake a Graduation Project with an industrial client, export house, designer or a NGO. During this period the students will be required to work on the brief given by the sponsor. The programme will culminate into a Graduate show.

WASHINGTON: Osama bin Laden, the glowering mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed thousands of Americans, was slain in a firefight Sunday with U.S. forces in Pakistan, ending a manhunt that spanned a frustrating decade.

"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said in a dramatic late-night announcement at the White House.

A jubilant crowd of thousands gathered outside the White House as word spread of bin Laden's death. Hundreds more sang and waved American flags at Ground Zero in New York - where the twin towers that once stood as symbols of American economic power were brought down by bin Laden's hijackers 10 years ago.

Another hijacked plane slammed into the Pentagon on that cloudless day, and a fourth was commandeered by passengers who forced it to the ground before it could reach its intended target in Washington.

U.S. officials said the helicopter raid in Pakistan was carried out by CIA paramilitaries together with the elite Navy SEAL Team Six. The U.S. team took custody of bin Laden's remains, which American officials said were being handled in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The death marks a psychological triumph in a long struggle, although its ultimate impact on al-Qaida is less clear.

The greatest terrorist threat to the U.S. is now considered to be the al-Qaida franchise in Yemen, far from al-Qaida's core in Pakistan. The Yemen branch almost took down a U.S.-bound airliner on Christmas 2009 and nearly detonated explosives aboard two U.S. cargo planes last fall. Those operations were carried out without any direct involvement from bin Laden.

Social activist Anna Hazare's fast-unto-death entered the third day here today even as a large number of people from various walks of life continued to extend support to the crusader for a stronger anti-corruption law.Seventy-two-year-old Hazare's protest has led to the resignation of agriculture minister Sharad Pawar from the group of ministers on corruption after the Gandhian took potshots at him.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had yesterday discussed with some Cabinet colleagues the issue after which indications emerged that one or two ministers could be nominated to talk to the activist.

The general sense at the informal confabulations was that there was a need to defuse the situation that had arisen due to the fast-unto-death campaign launched on Tuesday which is getting support from the increasing number of people.

Hazare had yesterday shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, slamming the reaction of his government and Congress to his indefinite fast on Lokpal Bill issue, and urged him to show courage to take unprecedented steps to fight the menace.

However, some politicians like Ajit Singh, Uma Bharti and OP Chautala who wanted to make common cause with the social activist and share the dais with him were shouted out by his supporters and had to make a hasty retreat. Hazare said the indefinite hunger strike does not have a political tone.

The activist is demanding enactment of Jan Lokpal Bill as the legislation proposed by the government was not adequate and lacked teeth. He has maintained that a joint committee, comprising representatives of the government and civil society, should be set up to firm up the bill.

Since the fast started on Tuesday, people from all walks of life including students, senior citizens, actors, executives and activists are converging at the Jantar Mantar, the hotspot of protests in the capital, to lend support to the movement.

NIFT Situation Test 2011

All hopeful students have to appear for the situation test after their selection in GAT (General Ability Test) and (Creative Ability Test). This test plays a very important role in the final selection as it contains 20% of the total weight age. It comprises of 3-D model making exploiting the materials provided to them. The materials may include different kind of papers, thermocol, wire, string, ice cream sticks etc. A candidate has to create one or two 3-D model within the time limit of 2hrs to 2 and a ½ hrs. Each model must be accompanied by a caption and a write up of 50-100words.
You are judged on the basis of your aesthetic appeal, creative and clever manipulation of given materials and an appropriate theme. It is advisable to spend first 10-15minutes of the given time in thinking and drawing a rough sketch of your idea. Decide what is to be done first and what at last. Also carry some stationeries along with you like-pair of scissors, paper cutter, sharpened pencils, compass, fevicol with nosel, quick-fix, blue/black ball point pen, sand paper etc.

Comparing with the peers all around India, NIFT Kannur having a very unique kind of architecture claiming total freedom from the Ahemdababd School of Architecture which is much inspired from the oldest Bauhaus school of design, where the aesthetic composition is made out of multilevel and interlocked structures based on geometrical shapes.

The architecture of NIFT Kannur engages space, structure and color to create a symbolic whole. It has supreme quality within its context, where it’s sharing an axial relationship with constructivism movement which was closely related to another modern art movement named suprematism, which sought "to liberate art from the ballast of the representational world." Constructivist art is characterized by a total abstraction and an acceptance of everything modern. It is often very geometric, it is usually experimental, and is rarely emotional.

The best of part of the architecture is the influence of Vaastu sastra which combines all the five elements of nature and balances them with the person and the material. It takes advantage of the benefits bestowed by the five elements of nature to create a congenial academic and working environment thereby facilitating spiritual well-being and paving the way for enhanced Growth, prosperity and peace.

The front Entrance is built in a way that creates the ambience felt by getting the best impression with the fascinating visual of the main building and this is also very unique entity when comparing with the entrances of other NIFT centres. The entire built in space, pathways and even exits seems to be very ergonomically molded promoting highest possible synchronization with human-material interaction.

Pythal Mala- The Uunexplored Trekking/Camping Spot in Kannur -Kerala , The Gods Own Country

Pythal Mala requires trekkers to undertake a arduous 6 kms trek to reach the zenith of the hill. The peak which is situated 4500 feet above the sea level, could give one the view which will remain in memory for a lifetime. The spectacular flora and fauna enroute through which the traveller will have to wade to reach the zenith will make the trek adventurous to the core.

The place located in Kannur district, can be visited during the cool months of January to April. One will also get a feel of the moist mountain wind before the onset of the monsoons in June.

Abundant in flora and fauna, this place is now being developed as a hill resort. One has to trek 6 kms to reach the top of the hills. There is a proposal to set up a zoo at the top of the hill.

The enchanting hill station offers a challenging trek to those inclined to stretch their legs. Trekkers are rewarded by a profusion of exotic flora and fauna and an exhilirating view from the top.

The 300 acre wide sprawling area is a safe home to numerous birds, hundreds of butterflies, rare plants and trees. Even during this sweltering summer at Paithal Mala one can relish a real cool climate. En route to the top of the hill one can see the remains of the run down palace of the tribal king called Vaithalkon.

It’s that same 4.3-inch blueprint that HTC has exploited to great success with the HD2 and EVO 4G, applied to the brand new Windows Phone 7 operating environment. The first question you’ll truly have to answer for yourself is whether or not you want to be aboard the WP7 gravy train. We remain staunch believers that a smartphone is only as good (or as bad) as its software, so decide on your OS first and your particular handset second. If you’re still with us, we’d recommend the HD7 as a solid WP7 device choice, but with a few caveats.

The build quality is a step below the finest we’ve seen, landing the HD7 in the "passable" category, while the display may achieve a high level of brightness, but it goes to waste thanks to its poor contrast and viewing angles. For a device aspiring to woo us with its multimedia features, this, along with middling sound output from its stereo speakers, renders the HD7 a failure if measured purely by the boasts of its promotional materials.
But we judge by our own standards here, and the reason we like the HD7 is that it seems to be just about the perfect size for us. It trades little in the way of added bulk for an awful lot in added real estate and general usability. We know we like to beat the drum about pixels on these digital pages, but sometimes inches matter just as much. And lets not forget that we’re still living in a world where nobody has yet managed to deliver a truly impressive 4.3-inch display, never mind the fanciness of Super AMOLED, so HTC deserves commendation for at the very least trying, and we reckon we might be happy dealing with a less Super panel that just gives us more of what we want. Provided what we want is Windows Phone 7, of course.
