The Google Student Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students to act as liaisons between Google and their universities. These ambassadors:

It’s that time of the year again, when students are selected from universities across Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) to be part the Google Student Ambassador program. The second year of the program saw tremendous growth as it expanded from 6 to 12 countries, and grew from 28 to 97 universities with 160 Ambassadors within 1 year.

Google Student Ambassadors (GSAs) are student leaders on campus whose mission is to use technology to make a difference, not only in their universities, but also in their communities more widely.

What about GCE A levels? What is Gce A Level?
What are GCEs?

This is a question that is being frquently asked by students who have intentions of progressing in the educational life. GCE (General Certificate of Education) qualifications are also known as A levels, which stands for Advanced level.
This is entirely different from the common GCSE.

They are usually taken by 16- to 19-year-olds, but they can be taken by students at any age.
A full GCE (A level) is usually taken over two years but may be taken over one year.
GCEs are at Level 3 in the National Qualifications Framework, and carry UCAS points and this gives the certificate holders a substantial advantage.

They serve as an entry requirement for progression to higher education, and are also required for some jobs but most employers would love and prefer to employ GCE A Level holders compared to other employees.
All GCE specifications have been updated and replaced. The new GCEs have been available for first teaching from September 2008. Find out more about GCE from 2008 here.

What choices are available?

There's a wide range of subject areas to choose from at GCE. These can either be taken at AS (Advanced Subsidiary) or A (Advanced) level.

The majority of GCE from 2008 specifications have a four-unit structure. Students usually taketwo units in the first half of the A level (AS) followed by two in the second half (A2).

AS (Advanced Subsidiary) is the first half of an A level, and is also a qualification in its own right.

A2 is the second half of an A level qualification, and is a progression from AS.

GCEs in Applied subjects, also known as vocational GCEs, are work-related qualificationsthat involve the study of an industry sector and are designed to develop the relevant skills for a specific field of employment. They may be offered as a single award (six units, equivalent to one GCE) or double award (12 units, equivalent to two GCEs), or the new nine units equivalent to one and a half GCEs.

GCEs in Applied Subjects have now been extended until 2013.
How are GCEs assessed?

GCEs are assessed by written examination and by coursework. For further details and weightings, please refer to your subject's specification, which can be found in the GCE from 2008 area of the website.

Units are graded from A* to E. However, A* will not be awarded at AS level, as the more challenging material is only introduced at A2.

A Guide and Summary of the Cambridge AS and A Levels

A guide to the Cambridge AS and A Levels – how Cambridge AS and A Levels work, the benefits of Cambridge A Level and how you can help your child decide which subjects to take as they prepare to continue their education using the Cambridge A Level after Year 11. What are AS and A levels?

AS and A levels are the traditional qualifications offered by schools and colleges for 16-19 year olds . They're highly valued by universities and employers and focus on academic subjects, although some are work-related.

AS levels can be taken as a stand-alone qualification , or as the first part of an A level course. AS levels are completed at the end of Year 12 (the old 'Lower Sixth' year). A2 exams and coursework are added on to an AS level at the end of Year 13 (the old 'Upper Sixth' year), bringing it up to A level standard .

Deciding which subjects to take

Most pupils take four subjects in Year 12. After AS level exams they drop one subject, and continue the other three through Year 13 to complete A levels.

The subjects your child studies for A/AS level can help shape their future , so their choices are important. They don't necessarily have to choose between maths/sciences or English/humanities – it's fine to mix them. However, if they're already focused on a particular career, this is a chance to start to specialise .

What matters most is choosing subjects your child will really enjoy. A/AS level involves much more in-depth study than GCSE, and to do well your child will need to do extra reading and become absorbed in their subjects. You can help them to work out which subjects they've a 'feel' or passion for and which also fall in the A Level Syllabus - because you know their interests and their strengths.

How will A levels help my child in the future?

A level results, or their equivalent, are the gateway to most university and college courses. If your child applies to university in Year 13, they'll usually be given a ' conditional offer '. This is an offer of a place as long as they achieve certain A level grades.

AS/A levels are graded A-E. From 2010, A* grades will also be awarded. As well as a grade, your child's results slip will also show a score on the 'uniform mark scale' (UMS). This is a mark out of 300 at AS and out of 600 at A level. If your child is not happy with the score, they can resit a unit - though this may mean delaying going to university or college.

With the above website link now active, Jamb is now set to launch the purchase of their registration scratch cards at approved selling outlets nationwide.
