Our network providers have also done their part in providing internet, so here we are.

Many youths today spend nothing less than 12 hours on the internet, mostly on the social network platforms : Facebook, twitter, badoo and the likes, but how many of us know that right in our hands is something that can change you, pay you and totally transform your life.

The internet has brought about new ideas and people all over the world are thinking of new concepts and ideas that they can establish, while many of us are chatting our life away. Do you know with your phone you can make money? With your phone, you can dedicate an hour everyday to a particular field or subject, soon you would be extremely knowledgeable in that area and can even begin to command respect, with that phone you can get books you will ordinarily have had to pay for, with your phone you meet and get a mentor who will help position you rightly. Or you can spend all your day having twitter fight and chatting away precious time of your life. It's really up to you. You need to ask yourself.... What exactly have I achieved online?

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-31888993774280537892013-03-18T10:23:00.001-07:002013-03-18T10:23:26.521-07:00Nigerian Youth and my oga at the top saga

Honestly to be frank, I didn't watch that program on channels television, I just started seeing comments and posts on facebook and twitter, but I had a good laugh when I did.

l also got a message out of it all, first that man showed us a picture of the kind of people who work in Nigeria, people who work in a particular field but know absolutely nothing about the field, they don't study, they don't read, all they do is go around doing what they have been asked to do. Secondly the issue of the oga at the top is a real issue in Nigeria, after watching that video severally, I started to think that maybe that man wanted to say something, but he couldn't, for instance what if they had no actual functional website? and he was scared to say that because that would put his oga at the top in trouble and that would also spin back at him.

We have had a good laugh out of it all, but may I say it is time to let sleeping dogs lie, we have wrecked enough havoc to last a life time for this man with the whole branding I see every where, from t shirts to video games, to animated pictures.

Apart from the statements, confusion and mannerism of this man that is so funny, I think it is something we should sit down and think about, we have a lot to learn from it, its not just a laughing matter, its a serious issue.

Nigerian graduates need to be well trained and educated as regards entrepreneurial skills, most graduates cant even write a business proposal, or even manage a small scale business. lt is evident because we have a lot of graduates who are still dependent on their parents, this is very sadening, although the Nigerian factor is also involved, however the youth of this nation need to begin to see the reason for establishing their own private business.
From the university days, the youth can harness their potential in the area of entrepreneuship and this in the long run will benefit them and in turn will increase the National Income of the Nation. With this mindset, soon we would begin to have initiatives for the production of new products and of course services. It would be something of great achievement if we the youth can spring up industries, float companies, thereby reducing the level of importation into the country, this is the road to development as a result of an increase in GDP of the nation, but it starts with you and i; the youth of this nation.

N.B; There is a programme run by Abuja Enterprise Agency(AEA) for youth corpers, it is called NYSC ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-85186422515585527482011-01-20T00:42:00.001-08:002011-01-20T00:42:06.269-08:00Nigerian youth and the electionThe forth coming election brings different feelings and questions
to peoples mind; can we depend on INEC?, will it be free and fair?,
or dictated by PDP?, will it be
non-violent?, what new changes will occur?.
These and much more are the questions on peoples mind, some people
have made up their minds not to register talkless of voting, afterall
we do so all the time and eventually we get a government of the people(high class)
for the people(masses) by the people(high class).
The youth constitute up to 70 percent of the entire population, that indeed is
a very high number, that is to say with such number we can influence things to
a certain level. Starting with the utilization of youth corpers for the entire exercise.
I want to believe that we have a say, but thats if we decide to use the power we have,
all youths should endeavour to register and eventually vote, that change we want so badly
starts from now.
i have this question on my mind, how do most people decide on who to vote for?
do we consider their looks; how executive they look in their campaign posters?, or by their words?,
of course we know that in Nigerian politics "Talk is cheap" or by the material gifts we have
been given e.g money, food items etc.or by their past services?
No youth should vote for any politician who tries to buy them with gifts, also those who
want a return, when in actual fact did nothing in the past four years. Remember what Nigeria
lacks and need now are not just mere politicians but good leaders who have vision of what
they intend to do, a leader that has an agenda and systematic ways of achieving it.
At least one state i am not scared for is lagos, if Fashola comes in the second time,
we can all be sure to see more dividends of democracy.
To all the youths; vote wisely, vote for your future.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-1082770988527098792011-01-19T03:14:00.001-08:002011-01-19T03:14:38.020-08:00Nigeria ministry of youth development 2You will agree with me that after going through all the vision and mission statement of this very recent ministry, it is indeed a wonderful one, but On the contrary, if you visit the reverse is the case, although they just moved into a new building, one will find most offices closed, either these officers or officials have gone on vacation (the normal Nigeria factor).
Another problem i have with this ministry is that, youths are not actually been used for anything except for the corp members despatched by NYSC whom you see carrying file from one office to the other, other than that what you see majorly are older people who can't be regarded as youths.i wonder how a ministry based on youth dosent have a quota for these youth to work in such ministry.
Also if the youths are included,(not just to carry files or type documents) but in helping in assesing and creating policies that will really benefit the Nigerian youth. The youth cover up 70 percent of the entire Nigerian population, therefore there is more to be done than it is actually been done.
It is high time a place is given to the youths of Nigeria in the entire system and this ministry should be able to make that possible. Nigerian youth are hungry for change, we want to be heard.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-9732297604720103522011-01-09T07:47:00.001-08:002011-01-09T07:49:44.388-08:00Nigeria's ministry of youth developmentI saw this article and i decided to give it to Nigerian youth, it was delivered by the minister himself,
1.1 INTRODUCTION

I am happy to address the nation today twelve months after my last address on the state of the Nigerian youth sector.

The period under review has been an eventful one in which a lot of landmark progress has been recorded. It is thus my honour and privilege to brief the nation again on how far the present administration has gone in turning the fortune of our young ones for the better.

It is however worthy re stating that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development was established in February, 2007 with a mandate to promote the physical, mental and socio-economic development of Nigerian youth through the advancement and protection of their rights within the Nigerian state, the promotion of their welfare and provision of opportunities for their self actualization and the introduction of policies and programmes entrenching such rights and responsibilities in all facets of public governance. The activities of the ministry are carried out by six departments namely Human Resources and Management, Finance and Accounts, Network and Social Mobilisation (NSM), Enterprise Promotion and Development (EDP); Education Youth Development (EDP); and Planning, Monitoring and Information Management (PMI).

1.2 VISION

To achieve those goals, the ministry`s vision is “To empower the Nigerian youth to become self reliant and socially responsible”

1.3 MISSION

Our Mission is “To provide a sustainable framework for integrated planning and collaboration among stakeholders for the development of policies and programmes, laws and other initiatives that promote and enhance the development of the Nigerian youth and the protection of their interests.

1.4 MANDATE

To achieve this mission, the ministry has the following mandate :

v Formulate, monitor and review the National Youth Policy;

v Articulate relevant programmes of action for youth development;

v Design guidelines for youth development activities in the country;

v Coordinate and monitor youth development activities at the three levels of governments and the collaborating partners;

v Collaborate with all stakeholders for the funding of youth activities;

v Create opportunities for youth to be involved in decision making processes in matters that affect them, the environment and the society;

v Inculcate in the youth human right values, social justice, equity, fairness and gender equality;

v Promote conducive atmosphere for mental emotional and physical development of the youth;

v Provide adequate funding for the non formal training of the youth in life skills;

v Provide adequate funding for sustainable developmental projects in the youth sector.

2.0 STATE OF THE YOUTH SECTOR

It is important to note that the sector is still faced by myriads of challenges which affect all segments of the nation`s youth population. Prior to the advent of the global economic crisis, Nigerian youth had faced such challenges as widespread joblessness, extreme disconnection from the mainstream of the society, misdemeanor verging on criminality, militancy, youth restiveness, increasing level of drug addiction and usage, general breakdown in moral values and norms, pervasive culture of get rich quick syndrome and a host of other negative dimensions.

As the administration was settling down to tackling the challenges, the international economic meltdown set in, affecting job creation efforts and expenditure on the social and other vital sectors of the economy. As rightly predicted by the International Labor Organization and other development partners, the global crisis worsens the plight of the youth especially in the developing economies where the youthful population were already facing challenges as enumerated earlier. Remittance from Diaspora population was negatively affected, thereby compounding economic challenges faced by many families. The quantum of fund available to government for many national priority projects was also on the decline even as the demands of the various sectors increased. The nation continues to produce graduates at an accelerated pace as more universities are licensed across the country.

In the face of such daunting challenges, the Nigerian youth sector retains her vibrancy with the Nigerian youth performing excellently well all over the world. In the field of sports, literature and sciences, our youths are securing medals and honors through their rare display of superlative creativity and talents. In various corners of the federation, our youths are contributing to nation building and national development as evidenced in the booming field of entertainment, literary creativity and other developmental achievements. There is no gainsaying, that in spite of all challenges, Nigerian youth remains the most vibrant, the most creative and the most development oriented in Sub Saharan Africa.

Our government is thus faced with a very innovative youth population who despite the vicissitudes of the times and lives, have risen to the demands of the time, making inroads where roadblocks are entrenched. The administration is thus challenged to tap into the dynamism of her youth to find comprehensive solutions to the youth question. My ministry indeed learnt early enough that the complexity of the youth question demands scientific approach in policy formulation as guess work can only complicate rather than assist in addressing the posers in the sector.

Hence, I am proud to announce that the ministry has generated a National Youth Development Index which is a result of a nationwide research into the status of Nigerian youths in relation to access to education, employment, health services, social affiliation and others. The plan is to ensure that progress in addressing the sectoral needs of the youth can be measured on tri-annual basis as is the practice in developed societies. Let me put on record that the outcome of the index has greatly assisted the administration is setting annual targets and goals in line with the provision of the New National Policy on Youth. It will also assist the citizenry to measure how successful the administration has been in the implementation of the youth policy. ..Watch out for my observation after i visited this ministry.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com212tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-39486223327461217492010-03-07T05:10:00.000-08:002010-03-07T05:10:37.391-08:00List of Professional Institutions/Associations in NigeriaThere are many professional institutions in Nigeria that regulate different professions ranging from accounting to engineering. Some of these institutions also administers certification examinations to members depending on their charter. Passing these exams are seen as symbol of professional accomplishments and lend credence to the competence of the individuals who have passed the examinations. The institutions also set ethical standards and standard of professional conducts for members including benchmarks and best practices. They are quasi regulatory agencies and can administer disciplinary actions for members’ misconducts. The list below represent some but not all such bodies in Nigeria
Many employers are looking for young smart people to work for them, however, a handful of our young people are interviewed and hired. So why are they not getting jobs? Why are the employers not hiring freely?

Most times I conduct my interviews as an employer right in front of the office door. ?When did you live school? Did you complete senior school? Are you computer literate? Are you Internet literate? Do you have an active email address? Do you have your CV with you? When the answer to the last three questions are no, I thank the visitor and release him/her. Even when I am looking for a cleaner I pose the same questions. As an employer, I have decided that my cleaners would be computer literate.

So what should the youth (young school leavers) do to attract employers? They should do these five things. They would be surprised about the kind of response they would get.

Acquire relevant computer skills today

Not every computer skill is relevant for basic office operations, though all skills are useful, not all would give you audience in most small offices. Such computer skill as programming, web designing, and computer maintenance are useful but no one looking for simple office job should start with them. If you are looking for a simple office job start with such computer skills as ms word, ms excel, and ms access database and internet operations. You must start with the basics and later build up your skill portfolio. Employers want people who can do basic office operations. If you are already working but not computer literate enroll in a part time computer program and upgrade your skills. Use your lunch time to learn something new and useful. I have seen many young men and women work in shops for years without becoming computer literate. If you must move up in our society today you must strain yourself. Use your time well; learn how to use computers.

Find out what Employers Want

Ask friends and relatives who are working what their day to day work involves, ask them what their employers expect from them and find out what skills are mostly required. Find out if they are having any setbacks because of what they can not do for their employers. Inquire from your relatives and friends who were recently hired what they were asked in their interviews. Find out from them what they did to get an interview. If you get these information and act on it, you would be in a better position to make yourself attractive to prospective employers. In addition, you would be surprised to know that most of your friends who were hired have almost all the aforementioned skills.

In summary, it is my conviction that every young person who has just completed senior school or has been at home for quiet some time without job, must not loose hope or despair. Rather what they should concern themselves with is what they should do to attract employers. This attraction of employers goes beyond good looks. You must be ready to acquire skills, skills that would set you apart from others when your CVs are considered by employers. Grateful people always have a lot of people around them because of this gift of gratitude.
GIFT OF PROBLEMS; I call problems, challenges, at times all you need is a challenge that you eventually overcome for you to realise the strength you have within, problems or challenges at times are stepping stones to move on to the next level, a lot of times we don’t know how much we have inside of us until we face a challenge and overcome it, then we can begin to see the potentials we have inside of us. Let me tell you the truth if you are not ready to face challenges you are not ready to go the next level of your life, get it now, that challenge is the step to the next level can’t you see that’s a gift? It is.
GIFT OF LEARNING; learning is a gift and you need to learn the act of learning , it’s essential, you can’t learn you can’t grow, as outlined in the point above, you need to be able to learn from the experiences you’ve been through. LEARN, LEARN AND LEARN and when you do, trust me you will know it’s a gift.
GIFT OF THE DAY; A lot of people play away their day, every day you have is an opportunity to do something, do something new, a new day is another day to do something better than you did yesterday, really yesterday is gone, tomorrow is farfetched but what you have now is today, why not use your today wisely, make up your mind not to play away your today, it’s a gift.
GIFT OF LOVE; Love is the greatest, it can conquer, it can strengthen, it has power, the gift of love is the most potent, when you have love, you have life, love and be loved; it’s the greatest of all gifts.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-64521098200618438242010-02-26T14:51:00.001-08:002010-02-26T14:55:01.363-08:00THE ULTIMATE GIFTI watched a movie (an American film) today titled “THE ULTIMATE GIFT”, it’s a film you should see, it taught me a lot of things, and i would like to share the lessons i learnt, although i still insist you should watch the movie. It’s the story of a grandfather who gave his grandson what he called the ultimate gift and in other for the young man to get this ultimate gift, he had to first learn to have the following gifts, which would eventually make him get the ultimate gift, and these gifts are thus;
GIFT OF WORK; work is an important part of life, it’s something every human should have, the gift of work makes you a focus person, no matter how big anybody might be or want to be, you have to work for somebody or something.
GIFT OF MONEY; money is good, like we all say money answereth all things, money can buy you the beautiful things of life, but we need to understand that it's a gift, it's not a do or die affair, that’s why we should endeavor to go about the right way to get the gift of money.
GIFT OF FRIENDSHIP; this is very important, friendship is essential in life, we need people we can lean on, people that can be there when we need somebody, but we must choose carefully who our friends should be, some people are our friends because of what they can get from us, some people are parasites in our life, we must try everything possible to rid ourselves of this kind of people. When you have real friends you will truly understand that friendship is a gift.
GIFT OF FAMILY; a lot of people have family members who are not worth it, in the sense that we can’t count on them, not all families are bonded, that's why a lot of people look for love outside their home, i have come to understand that we have our part to play too when it comes to family building, do your part in establishing the bond of your family, your family is very important, if you truly have a family you can count on, then you can enjoy the gift of family.
GIFT OF GIVING; we all have to learn the act of giving, giving is powerful, it’s the tool of the rich, look or study the richest men on earth, they are men who love to give, if you can’t give you simply can’t take, giving is a very essential gift in life, have you heard the saying, “GIVERS NEVER LACK” so why not learn the act of giving, it’s very essential, the most surprising thing about giving is, i have never heard of anyone that gave so much till he became poor, no matter how much you give you can never lack, truly giving is a gift.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-16696386439930353982010-02-24T02:09:00.000-08:002010-02-24T02:20:16.362-08:00Nigeria Youths, What Kind of Leaders Tomorrow?Nigeria’s future is uncertain. Even more unclear is the identity of the leaders who will steer the nation in the coming decade. Will dynastic politics continue to define electoral trends? Do businessmen make the best politicians? The question we don’t ask and deliberate on today is what Nigeria leadership will look like in coming years.

Leaders, especially in times like these, are people who can inspire the public, change their opinions and attitudes, rather than working against popular opinion or inciting a bloody revolution. Nigeria needs a leader who understands Nigeria’s tailored needs. Text book solutions cannot be implemented directly; neither will trial and error work as Nigeria is a country with a complex set of problems. The leader, who understands her specific needs, would be able to steer the country out of the current dark situation. The question that came to my mind when for an example during the hay-days running up to the 2007 elections, The ADC presidential candidate Patrick Utomi was said to not be a “politician” because he has not been playing “politics” before. Why must all the leaders Present/future of the country be from the political sector? What about leaders in business, entrepreneurship, technology, science, health, education, rural development, urban development, human rights, legal reforms? Who says only a politician will be able to lead Nigeria? About time we define leadership in Nigeria more broadly to really reflect the diverse country and economy that we need to steer and put political leadership where it belongs –

Harold Pinter (Nobel Laureate) wrote and I concur “The majority of politicians, on the evidence available to us, are interested not in truth but in power and in the maintenance of that power. To maintain that power it is essential that people remain in ignorance, that they live in ignorance of the truth, even the truth of their own lives. What surrounds us therefore is a vast tapestry of lies, upon which we feed”.

As long as we remain ignorant and keep feeding on lies, tomorrow’s Nigeria is not going to be any different. It is more likely to be worse. Who is going to tackle the enormous problems facing the country? You name the problem, Nigeria got it.

1 Education. Literacy rate is abysmal after years.

2 Poverty. Nigeria had always been living on handouts from abroad.

3 Nigeria has many resources which are either not tapped or being misused.

4 Employment. The larger the unemployment, greater the problems we shall have.

5 Infrastructure. Nigeria has not improved on the colonial infrastructure.

6 Law and Order. I don’t have to enlarge on the mess Nigeria is in.

7 Politics. Nigeria eventually has ‘democracy’, but the way the politicians are acting it may not last very long.

TO READ COMPLETE STORY CLICK THE TITLE OF THIS PARTICULAR POST OR GO TO
http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/articles/charles-jiduwah/nigeria-youths-what-kind-of-leaderAs-tomorrow.html

BY;CHARLES JIDUWAH

Source; Nigerian village squareUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-87720165641447987872010-02-22T04:54:00.000-08:002010-02-22T06:15:47.713-08:00OKONJO IWEALA SPEAKS TO NIGERIAN YOUTH“I will never steal government money, I will never collect a bribe, I will never cover up fraud. The chairman of ASUU, Ilorin Zone, Professor Eddy Olanipekun, said in Akure at the weekend, that instead of addressing the issues that led to the strike, the Federal Government was only chasing shadow.

He said the allegation that the union wanted the Federal Government to provide the quantum of money needed to fund the university system in the country, was not true.

He however, said the union had agreed with the Federal Government’s team that the injection of funds in the country should be in phases until the minimum 26 per cent target was attained.

ASUU said, “It is therefore not true, as being branded in some quarters, that the union wanted government to produce the quantum of funds required to fund the education system at once. It is also not true that government cannot find the resources from which to make the required level of funding available.

“The issue of conditions of service for academic staff of Nigerian universities has been unduly politicised. The propaganda of government, which has been projected in many press and media briefings by government functionaries, is that ASUU members are only concerned about their salaries and conditions of service

Please, Please and Please we are tired of all this talk, can something be done, Nigerian youths can keep staying at home

Also watch out for the news of Federal government increasing student tution in federal universities to 180,000 per session.......VERY FUNNYUnknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-43991061428610884162009-07-16T14:54:00.000-07:002009-07-16T16:01:22.164-07:00Nigerian youth and JAMB<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 72px; height: 68px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt3I3GIvfYVRf7tPQFKjXhCUB0QBECj7rTNk-g6XksLDDbEw_G8U9E2pqTndyOvax5n7m6uMwESYZxUSL2Nd-ySrHpWzJ3EUO7qO-9a1EqQNvtKhCJzDih_uO2c9NuZqAKOzC8_ISoX7Q/s400/logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359196933799360162" />
Nigerian youth have suffered enough ordeal in the hands of our almighty JOINT ADMISSION AND MATRICULATION BOARD (JAMB).Looks like that is the most dreaded name in the country, the issue of JAMB as made alot of people loose hope of going to an higher institution, it has forced some to leave the country, it has made some opt for the private institution, while some have had to go for pre-degree, diploma, IJMB, sandwitch programms as a means of entering the higher institution. This has brought about so many questions to the minds of Nigerians, alot of people read extra-ordinarily for this exam, yet they fail it, while some dont even read well and they get good marks, JAMB as been described as an examination of luck, is that how its suppose to be?

There has been alot of questions in the minds of people, especially the question'IS JAMB A TRUE TEST OF KNOWLEDGE?', since it has become an examination of luck student would rather pray than read for it. There has been alot of uproars in the past about the crimes of examination mal practices involved with the exam, issues of special center's and special candidates where the height of this crimes go on. Due to this universities in Nigeria started the POST-JAMB screening arrangement, and such comments like people who even passed the JAMB exam cant answer simple questions, so my question is what in the world are we doing?

Attimes i feel the failure of JAMB is political, what do i mean? we dont even have enough universities for all applied student who write the JAMB exam, so why wont we have mass failure, because even if these student pass, will the universities be able to take in all this people?

To be continued..........................Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-71539685105620557452009-07-15T13:21:00.000-07:002009-07-15T14:25:50.802-07:00Nigerian youth need to start thinking<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 128px; height: 106px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8z8p5nbUL-VbSctgYaTR6hruU5z-JpS-YXyErC5uMGcBT3pJtHjs7UH7i3pTcIm-cNS8F7dj0T-X8NanC6QdGfJu5R2UTzPXKm5r9Pf4U2igqYFyxXEbuJGyyx-grVRQ-2NdOEl_BilY/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358801201171190994" />
I have noticed that most of us need a push before we can do anything, we want someone to tell us what to do and how to do it at all times, we must understand that in as much as that its good for people to lead us, we need to move at a certain point in our life, we need to rise up to the occassion. Thats why you are called a youth, if you spend quality time thinking about the right things, at the end of the day, you discover that you come out with good and quality ideas, and as the chinese saying goes in english "GOOD THINKING, GOOD PRODUCT".

What you produce, is what you have been thinking about, when you think of negative things, that is what you will eventually start producing, if you think of positive things, thats what you will produce. I discovered that the youth in other developed nations are the ones making things happen, the youth of any country can determine in the long run what that country will become, in china for instance, the youths produce most of those things that are imported to nigeria, is it not so sad that as small as a sharpener or eraser can be we still want to import it, let us start thinking, we can make things happen if only we are ready to start thinking.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4308584879534633259.post-41504880502978392622009-07-15T03:17:00.001-07:002009-07-15T03:17:40.398-07:00Download Adobe Photoshop CS3 - FileHippo.comPhotoshop CS3 gives you the ability to work more productively, edit with unrivalled power, and composite with breakthrough tools.

New features for productivity include:

Streamlined interface
Improved Camera RAW
Better control over print options
Enhanced PDF support
Better management with Adobe Bridge
Download Adobe Photoshop CS3 - FileHippo.com

Shared via AddThis
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4
