But both shared a passion for modern classical composers, a penchant for introspective spacious music with an emphasis on lyricism, and a willingness to experiment.

Miles could see that there was something new that he could do with this guy who was making new sounds on the piano (Chick Corea)

Clic HERE for the whole article

Jazz Podcast

This post is to announce that a new podcast serie is on the way! is the name of the twitter campaign to defend jazz, launched by main web sites dedicated to this music. According to arecent survey of National Endowment for the Arts, there are less people attending jazz concerts, and even less youngs. Now, in the articled published on All About Jazz they do not mention if this survey refers only to United States or to the whole world. I am more inclined to think that it refers to USA, even because here in Europe, especially in Italy and France jazz seems to be very alive; there are many festivals even in very small villages and all of them are crowded.
At any rate the promoters of this campaign want to demonstrate that people, in America or in the rest of the world, go to see live jazz. It works in avery simple way. All you have to do is to write on twitter when you go and see a jazz concert, adding the tag #jazzlives to the post. This way it will be possible to see all posts on twitter search engine or on a widget you may put in your blog, you can see it here too! The Monterey Jazz Festival is looking for volunteers! As a way of seeing the Festival up close, volunteering is a great experience for students, seniors and everybody in between. Whether working behind the scenes or in a crowd, volunteers are needed starting Monday, September 14, continuing through Monday, September 21. We would greatly appreciate volunteers early in the Festival week, as we need help setting up for the big event. Volunteers typically work six-hour shifts, but are able to stay on the grounds afterwards to enjoy the music.

To apply to be a volunteer for the Monterey Jazz Festival, please visit the Festival’s website, www.montereyjazzfestival.org and look for “Volunteer for MJF/52” on the homepage. You will find a link to volunteer information and an application form to fill out, or can be printed and faxed to the Festival. You will be notified of your acceptance, job description and hours based on your selected preferences by the MJF Volunteer Coordinator.

The volunteer page can be accessed directly at http://www.montereyjazzfestival.org/2009/info/volunteer.php

John Coltrane - My Favorite Things

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5X46KefJNu4/R9PP3XRdWXI/AAAAAAAAAtg/l_qvetCt5l0/s200/coltrane_favorite_things.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175708946825828722" />This is absolutely one of my favorite records, the Coltrane I like most, when he also plays soprano sax. This is a version of Autumn Leaves with a somewhat arabian accent, because jazz has different tastes in different places, that's way I love this music.

Bar Louie
Gemmayze Gouraud Street
Beirut
Lebanon
http://www.barlouiebeirut.com/

Joshua Redman in Tour

SUMMER TOUR

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5X46KefJNu4/Sl7PY3XvTZI/AAAAAAAABmM/4HCBWXizCl8/s200/redman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358948632704798098" />

July 24th. Mendocino Music Festival. The format is simple: images of Italian places "Off the beaten paths" with some jazzy background tune. Every episode is a "postcard", a shot taken on Sunday Morning. I start with my hometown Aprilia, In the next episode I will feature a neighbour town and so on. Rather than creating a new feed I decided to use my old Night Passage Podcast feed, this will avoid confusion since in my blog there are already two feeds (text & podcast).
There will be one video podcast every five audio shows.

(Background music in this episode: REVOLUTION VOID - INVISIBLE WALLS. Available for free on Jamendo.org) Hope you enjoy!

Sunday Morning Ep. 1 by Renato Biolcati Rinaldi is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribuzione-Non commerciale-Condividi allo stesso modo 3.0 Unported License.

Free Mp3: Kermit Ruffins - Hey Naa

Kermit Ruffins
"Hey Naa" (mp3)
from "Livin' A Tremé Life"
(Basin Street)

More On This Album

Downbeat Magazine calls Kermit Ruffins, "New Orleans' ambassador of good times". That could have come back to haunt the record labels, since for many people the sites are becoming a useful way to discover music.

Read more on The New York Times

The Vegetable Orchestra

This orchestra performs on instruments made of fresh vegetables. This is also a way to see differnet flavours of jazz and contamination with local cultures. Look at this choir of beautiflul latvian girls!

City Jazz Club
Ģertrūdes st. 34
Riga
Latvia
http://www.cityjazzclub.lv/

Chris Botti in Tour

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 155px; height: 128px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5X46KefJNu4/SkyCIdjcMZI/AAAAAAAABlE/z9ZRZDafseA/s200/botti.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353797138920518034" />
TOUR OF THE DAY

Chris Botti

This summer Chriss Botti will not perform in Europe but only in USA and Canada

July 2009

02 - Montreal, Canada - Montreal Jazz Festival
09 - Los Angeles, CA - Greek Theater
10 - Sparks, NV - John Ascuaga's Nugget
11 - San Francisco, CA - Davies Symphony Hall - with San Francisco Symphony
12 - San Francisco, CA - Davies Symphony Hall - with San Francisco Symphony

August 2009

07 - Lenox, MA - Tanglewood - with Boston Pops
08 - Hyannis, MA - Cape Cod Melody Tent

September 2009

05 - N. Here's pianist Bill Evans on vinyl acetate, from the age of 12. Presented in chronological order, this 15 track CD is just the first in a five volume series planned for release, along with some "best-of" releases and a final boxed set. This includes an introduction by Professor of Jazz History at UNO, Charles C. Blancq. A glorious 12 page booklet contains never before seen photos of Evans as a youth performer, as well as personal stories told by long time childhood friend, schoolmate and band mate, Connie Atkinson. Each recording is commented on by Evans' own son and producer of the album, Evan Evans. Album was transferred with care by legendary Joe Gastwirt, using HDCD, and pressed using the jitter free K2 laser.
