Here, in Sofia, Bulgaria, is the Volleyball European Olympic Qualification for men. After 4 days the group stage is over and the semifinals are coming. Bulgaria won three of three games against Slovenia, 2011 European champions Serbia (!) and Spain. The result in every game was 3:0 for Bulgaria! Out national team is very strong and this make me proud

But in reddit we can found another opinion:

He ranks 1080i below 720p in quality because he divides the interlaced resolution by a factor of two. This is simplistic. Your (non-crt) TV isn’t just flashing black lines at 30Hz. Pretty much every progressive display ever produced has a deinterlacer. This means, that on every individual frame, you would still be able to resolve 1080 vertical lines (albeit, you could only change that resolution limited information at exactly half the frame rate, which is fundamentally why you get interlacing artifacts unless you work hard on a deinterlacing algorithm). The quality of the deinterlacing algorithm, is dependent on your particular TV. Most modern tv’s should do a really nice job, even during fast motion / panning.

He then goes on to explain field rate / frame rate, but again gets the conclusion incorrect. He claims that a 1080i/60 signal is really 1080p/30 AND “has all that other interlace garbage.” This is again, incorrect. The simplest deinterlacer would be to just hold the information from the previous field. In other words, you could convert 1080i/60 to 1080p/30 perfectly (no interlacing ‘artifacts’) with the stupidest deinterlacer you could possibly write.

Think of it this way. If you were displaying a static image with 1080 lines of vertical resolution, you would ALWAYS want to choose the 1080i/60 signal. If you were displaying a screen full of pixels, each driven at 60Hz by a separate random number generator, you would ALWAYS want to pick 720p.

For everything in between these two extremes, the answer really is “it depends” (on the content and your tv’s deinterlacer)

The answer isn’t simple, and you can’t make a blanket statement that 720p > 1080i. It depends on both the content and the deinterlacer in your TV. In the presence of a good deinterlacer, you probably want to use 1080i. If you have a shitty deinterlacer and content with a lot of panning / fast motion, you may indeed be better off with a progressive signal.
