I own two Nikon D3100. A fantastic camera for the price. All it needs is:
1- Live view full exposure simulation function.
2- A movie mode with manual controls.

I Just hope the D800 doesn't have this huge emphasis on video & also doesn't use the same overpriced card!! does Nikon not realise that photographers don't need video but just need the best possible image maker! What about including wireless capabilities? If eye fi can do it in an sd card then surely Nikon can add this in camera!

Well, you must not be millionare, but certainly 6000 dollars is a good amount of money for a poor "aficionado" like me. Paul, could you tell me why the D700/D800 is a better combo for you ? I have the D700 and I love it. Greetings.

Millionaire? Why? at $6k it is about 25% cheaper than the Canon flagship. A few pro assignments should pay for it in no time. There are always rentals too.

For me the D700/800 is a better fit, but I don't think that the D4 is over priced at all. I am Betting that the D4x will have 36Mpixies for even more $$.

Wonder what will be the availability date...

I think at most in three months must come the announcement of the D700 update, that I hope is not going to have 36 megapixels. Sixteen megapixels would be perfect.

NOTE TO NIKON-- We don't need video!! If we did we would buy a video camera or one of your other models! Surely that would make the D800 more reasonable & accessible to many more keen photographers!

I shoot landscapes, wildlife, and flowers mostly so low noise, high resolution, and brilliant color is important. One frame per second is usually adequate but I need a lot of megapixels. I want to keep my full frame Nikon lenses so don't see a need for a medium format sized sensor. I have never shot a frame of video but would like my DSLR to have the following capabilities so as to allow minimal post editing: Panorama, HDR, Unlimited Depth of Field. I wish my D700 and D7000 had more pixels, more dynamic range, lower noise. Waiting!
