On March 26, 2026 (not an April 1st news), Nikon announced it had entered into a share purchase agreement to transfer its wholly owned subsidiary, Mark Roberts Motion Control Limited (MRMC), to MRMC Bidco Limited – an entity established by UK-based investment firm Blandford Capital LLP.

Nikon acquired the UK robotics specialist MRMC in October 2016 and integrated MRMC’s award-winning precision camera motion-control systems with its own imaging technologies for high-end film, broadcast, live sports, and virtual production applications:

• Development starting point: Began with in-depth user feedback on the original 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S. The #1 request was for a significantly lighter lens with no loss in optical performance. The team started from scratch, exploring many different optical and mechanical configurations before finalizing the new design.
• Major weight reduction: Dropped from 1,360 g to 998 g (27 % lighter). This was achieved by:
  • Optical redesign (fewer moving groups during zoom, new element shapes, fluorite glass, front element changed from concave to convex).
  • Complete mechanical overhaul using advanced machining (thinner parts refined in 0.1 mm / 0.1 g increments with extensive impact testing).
• Optical simplification: Reduced from 21 elements in 18 groups to 18 elements in 16 groups while improving performance. Advances in aspherical ED glass and specialty materials now allow high correction with fewer elements. Optical corrections remain primary; software is used only for fine color balance adjustments, not for correcting major aberrations.
• Autofocus upgrade: New Silky Swift VCM (SSVCM) motor + improved control algorithms + new ABS optical encoder. AF is approximately 3.5× faster with better tracking of erratic subjects. The lens is deliberately future-proofed to work with upcoming higher-performance camera bodies.
• Aperture change: Increased from 9 to 11 blades for rounder bokeh highlights and smoother, more natural defocus transitions (despite added mechanical complexity).
• New user-focused features:
  • Shorter minimum focusing distance.
  • Click on/off switch on the control ring.
  • Filter adjustment window.
  • Innovative removable tripod collar with two interchangeable rings: one with Arca-Swiss mount (for quick tripod use) and one as a protective barrel ring (for users who remove the collar to keep the lens compact).
• S-Line philosophy: This lens represents the new “second-generation” balance of top optical performance, reduced weight, and compactness that Nikon plans to apply across the S-Line lineup where possible.

Nikon Z8 and Z9 sensors exhibit a well-known (but subtle) anomaly at their native base ISO 64: the read-noise distribution deviates from the ideal Gaussian “bell curve”, producing falsely elevated measured noise in shadows and a slight loss in dynamic-range readouts (roughly 0.3–0.5 stops depending on the measurement method). This makes ISO 64 sometimes look worse than ISO 100 in deep shadows when analyzed with standard tools. The tool directly addresses this:

• It analyzes the RAW file’s noise statistics.
• Fits the theoretical bell curve to the pre-anomaly data.
• Applies a targeted black-level / noise-characteristic correction that restores the proper Gaussian distribution.

Nikon quietly rolled out an extended warranty program for Nikkor Z gear in some European countries. For example:

New 6-year warranty on Nikon Z gear in Italy (via the Nital distributor in Italy). Coolpix and DSLR gear get 4 year warranty.

Nikon UK and Nikon Belgium: free five-year extended warranty on new Nikkor Z lenses.

Update: As of today, Nikon Europe has started offering a five-year warranty at all official Nikon dealers, Nikon Store, and Nikon Plaza. It looks like all European countries, including Turkey, are included.

Here is the Nikon European warranty coverage I could gather online (for exact/current terms in your country, check the local Nikon site or distributor; policies can vary slightly and change over time):

• Italy – 6 years on Nikon Z cameras and Nikkor Z lenses via Nital distributor (requires registration within 30 days)
• United Kingdom – 1 year base, 5 years on new Nikkor Z lenses (free registration)

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

There is no doubt that the Nikon ZR is a powerhouse camera in a compact package for an impressive price. The KONDOR BLUE Nikon ZR cage took all of the use cases, strengths, and weaknesses into consideration throughout the design process. The grip, for instance, is essentially nonexistent so we added an integrated ergonomic rubber grip. Don’t need it? It can easily be removed while still maintaining the cage.

The core of the cage is the Right Side Plate and Arca Baseplate. This forms a strong protective structure while retaining the compact size of the camera body. The Right Side Plate features NATO rail, sensor-centered anti-twist mount, and side strap loops. The Right Side Plate also locks into the camera body’s strap loop while the Arca Baseplate connects to the camera’s base and anti-twist slot.

The Left Side Plate also includes a NATO rail, anti-twist mounts, and integrated USB C and HDMI Micro cable protection. Every sliver of space was shaved to maximise the camera’s incredible 4” screens rotation while cables are in use. However, if screen rotation is a priority, we enabled the cage to function without the Left Side Plate.

Lastly, the Top NATO Rail integrates with the hot shoe and Left Side Plate for great security yet easy removal. The NATO rail has a spring-loaded safety stop and an M4 Sensor Plane Marker.
