The news that former Liverpool striker Michael Owen could be released on a free by Mancester United this summer might have made ears around Finch Farm prick up a little.

Reports in various media are claiming that David Moyes is interested in renewing his bid to sign the former England striker, despite his advanced years and lack of football over the past 2 years.

Moyes had been close to signing Owen in 2009 when he eventually went to Manchester United, presumably after they were impressed by the brochure his agent put together.

Everton defender Leighton Baines has been handed a place in the England squad for Euro 2012, while Phil Jagielka is on the standby list.

Baines was included in the PFA Team of the Year and was Mr Consistency again last season for Everton down the left hand side.

Jagielka could find himself called upon if others drop out of the squad, but may be watching from home.

Former Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy has also been called up after showing fantastic form with Norwich City this season.

Everton have received almost £50m revenue for this season from the TV deal for Premier League games.

Each year the Premier League break up the £1.2bn TV rights between the 20 top flight teams, with emphasis put on more money for finishing higher up the league, and Everton took £48.9m this season.  This figure will be bumped up to over £50m once the FA Cup prize and TV money is taken into account.

From the Premier League, each team receives

• £13.7m domestic TV money
• £18.7m overseas TV money
• £570k for each televised game
• £755k for each league position

Each team is apparently guaranteed to be on TV at least 10 times per season, meaning at least £5.7m income from televised games, rising depending on how much more often games are shown on TV.

The Blues will also net over £1m from prize money from The FA for their progress in the competition and could earn another £1m from the TV revenue that comes from having extended highlights shown as well as full coverage of the semi final at Wembley.

Last season Everton took just over £49m in TV revenue after appearing live on TV 13 times in the league.

Nikica Jelavic says he is surprised but happy at the start he has made in an Everton shirt since signing in January.

The Croatian striker arrived from Rangers in a £5m deal and has immediately impressed Evertonians by continuing his excellent scoring record that he started north of the border.

“Everything has been perfect for me so far,” Jelavic told the club’s official website. “Am I surprised at how well it has gone? A little bit. I expected maybe five or six goals and I said to myself that that would be great.

“But this is a huge, huge step and I’m delighted with 11 goals.

“English football, the Premier League, is the best football in the world. So I am happy I have settled so quickly.”

Tim Cahill will sit out the first three games of next season after the red card he received against Newcastle was upheld by The FA.

Cahill had claimed that the punishment was “clearly excessive” according to an FA statement which went on to say “this was rejected by the Commission and the player will now serve a three-match suspension.”

The Australian midfielder will, however, be on international duty in June after being picked in the Australian national squad for World Cup qualifiers against Oman and Japan.
