Apologies for the lack of updates over the last two years, I’ve been so busy with teaching and gigging that I really haven’t had the time to spend properly recording / editing a new video. I have a new camera though and I’m itching to get some video lessons online soon, so watch this space!

I’ve been on a bit of a 90′s RnB vibe lately and I was watching this Brandy concert featuring (I think?) Jamie Gamble on drums and I love playing along with this song!

Thought I’d test my video editing skills by syncing the audio up afterwards as I am using headphones in this video. It’s a little glitchy in places but seems to be in time with the track for the most part.

This is not my kit, it’s the kit I usually teach on at Greenbank Music Village. I’ll hopefully get the time to record some videos of my new Tama Starclassic Performer B / B soon!

Many years ago, I saw Gerald Heyward perform this song with Blackstreet on the Jools Holland’s show here in the UK. This performance completely changed my drumming forever as it started my interest in the Gospel Drumming style. At the time, I had no idea who the drummer was or that there were many other amazing Gospel Drummers out there, I just knew that I had to sound like that lol! Almost everything I know about Gospel Drumming starts with Gerald! Thanks for inspiring a generation!

The kit I’m playing has sadly seen better days. Its the practice/teaching kit at work and its in dire need of some new skins. But hey, a bad workman blames his tools. I’m attempting to make a good sound on this kit, despite its faults, guess I like a challenge lol! I find kits like this help me make an even better sound when I get to play my nice Yamaha/Zildjian.

Another drum kit disaster!!

Just got home from a gig and felt compelled to check my snare for some reason. Good job I did as one of the lug boxes just exploded in my hand!

See the two pieces of metal pictured below, well they are supposed to be one piece! Somehow I managed to lose a tuning screw on the bottom side over the last few weeks and was just about to replace it. But it seems there was so much tension on the top side of this lug as a result that its snapped clean in half!

Now I’m frantically searching ebay for a replacement before my next gig on Thursday. Man, I’m really struggling to keep up with the breakages lately. First my Zildjian K Crash and now this. I’ve always looked after my equipment but my kit is nearly eleven years old now and its starting to get expensive again.

Whats a drummer got to do to get an equipment endorsement?

Wow, another one of my favourite drummers – Brent Easton paid me a compliment on my J Moss – Operator (Drum Cover) Video via facebook today.

This has been a great week! First Jeremy Haynes and now this! I can’t tell you how truly blessed I am feeling that my drumming heroes are taking the time to watch and comment on my videos! I’ve also received a nice comment from George “Spanky” McCurdy on one of my older videos too!

Thanks so much for watching and for your kind comment Brent, your drumming is a HUGE inspiration to me. I am honoured to receive a compliment from you!

Over 500 Hybrid Drum Rudiments!!

I have finally reached over 500 Hybrid Drum Rudiments in my Rudiment Encyclopedia!

Here are 31 of the newest Hybrid Drum Rudiments under the Education section of the web site.

In order to help you in learning and perfecting these drum rudiments, I have included easy to read examples, performance tips, free PDF sheet music and video tutorials.

Here are the latest additions:

Apologies for the lack of new rudiments lately. I’ve been very busy with teaching and have barely updated my site at all in the last six months. Unfortunately, this means I’m massively behind with adding the large amount of rudiments that have been sent to me since I started this project. Apologies to those who are still waiting to see their rudiments on the site.

It has been just over 2 years since I first started researching drum rudiments and their history and I would never have thought I would reach over 500 hybrid variations. I still have loads more to add too!

I’ve received some fantastic combinations from all over the world and I can’t wait to see them all on the site, thanks so much to everyone that has helped to contribute to my Rudiment Encyclopedia.

There are currently 503 hybrid variations so far. Stay tuned for more Hybrid Rudiments soon!

If you know of any Drum Rudiments that are not listed in my glossary or notice any errors in my pages, please contact me and help me to keep this educational resource complete and up to date.

Wow, I got a message from another one of my favourite drummers – gospelchops.com legend Jeremy Haynes on my J Moss – Operator (Drum Cover) Video via facebook today.

How cool is that! First George “Spanky” McCurdy and now this! I’ve been pretty down on my playing just lately as my band have just started their summer festival tour and I’m feeling a little rusty due to the lack of gigs over the winter period, this is just the motivation I needed.
