AMARILLO, Texas — State officials said Tuesday that a northeast Amarillo bar was forced to close for a week after five patrons were shot Sunday.

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission authorities said that the Las Alazanas in the 2800 E. Amarillo Blvd. was closed Monday for seven days “in interest of public safety.”

According to a TABC news release, initial reports and investigation led authorities to think there was a potential for another act of violence to occur. TABC officials said the summary suspension is a preventative measure “to provide a cooling off period.”

The beverage commission and Amarillo police continue to investigate the shooting that left five victims with noncritical injuries Sunday. Authorities said police are still looking for the shooter, whose identity is unknown.

Officials said officers found four victims at the bar and one was admitted to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, shortly before midnight. Witnesses told police an unknown man entered the bar and began shooting after a fight erupted.

Injured are Jose Aragonez, 35, who was shot in the chest and left arm; Pedro Orozco, 28, who was shot in the lower back; and Jose Gutierrez, 26, who was shot in the left heel, according to police. Jose Ruiz, 41, and Ercy Wilson, 27, were shot in their left legs, police said.

On Aug. 9, 2010, TABC issued a wine and beer retailer’s permit to the bar and the establishment has not had any violations, officials said. Police are asking anyone with information to call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident Sunday, a 21-year-old Amarillo woman and 25-year-old man reportedly have been arrested after police said they allegedly broke into an apartment complex office in west Amarillo.

Police said Ashley Radawn Stauder and Michael Christopher Bailey were charged with burglary of a building with intent to commit theft, a state jail felony carrying an up to a two-year sentence and a $10,000 fine.

About 4:40 a.m., officers spotted a black Dodge SUV speeding south in the 1500 block of Bell Street, authorities said. The officers watched the SUV until they responded to the Kensington Apartments, 1524 Bell St., on a reported burglary.

Authorities said a witness heard glass break, people talking and a black vehicle speed out of the parking lot. After dispatchers sent out the SUV’s description, officers stopped a vehicle, driven by Stauder, in the 4300 block of West Interstate 40. Bailey and a passenger also were in the SUV, officers said.

Police noticed a box of business cards, a night drop box faceplate, a receipt book, rent and business checks and a key tag belonging to the apartment complex on the floorboards and seats of the SUV, officials said.

Police also noticed two of the car’s occupants had fresh cuts on their hands, and other officers confirmed a burglary took place at the complex, authorities said. The office’s front door was pried open, the front window broken out and the night drop box broken open, police said. Officers released the female passenger, authorities said.

Stauder and Bailey were taken to Potter County jail Sunday, police said.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police in Cleveland say that a 48-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child was shot  by a 19-year-old boy  inside a home on Cleveland’s East Side early Sunday afternoon, according to the reports.

The incident took place inside a residence at 1059 E.76th Street where the Cleveland police were called to respond after several shots were heard in the residence. The Cleveland police arrived at scene at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Once on the scene, they discovered a 2-year-old child who was identified as Di’rico Wilson who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his head. They also discovered a second victim with a gunshot wound to the head. She was identified as 48-year-old Annett Jackson. Cleveland police say that she was the child’s babysitter.

There were three kids in the residence when the incident happened. The shooter who is believed to be the babysitter’s son was handling a gun in another room when the incident transpired. The gun discharged striking his mother and baby Wilson, according to the reports.

The 19-year-old babysitter’s son was identified as Ernest Crawford. He was arrested Sunday evening and was transported to the Cleveland’s Central Prison Unit. He was arrested for felonious assault. He is still waiting for additional charges.

On Sunday evening, baby Wilson underwent surgery at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and was listed in a critical condition, according to the hospital officials.

Records show that this is the second time that the babysitter was shot. The first time that she was shot, she was struck by the bullet four times. Police say that she was defending her son when he was robbed. Records indicated that the robber broke into her home and unloaded shots at her after the incident.

Annett Jackson is on a stable condition at the University hospital.

AMARILLO, Texas — Authorities said Amarillo police arrested a 19-year-old man Saturday morning on burglary and theft charges after finding a stolen gun, purse and other items during a traffic stop.

According to Sgt. Brent Barbee, police responded to a burglary call at a house in the 6900 block of Logan Place at 4:54 a.m. He said a resident heard his garage door open and his dog barking, and saw a white man crouched behind his pickup inside the garage before the man fled.

At 5:04 a.m., an officer responding to an auto burglary call in the 6300 block of Stoneham Drive saw a white 1999 Dodge pickup pull out of an alley in the 6900 block of Achieve Drive. Barbee said the officer checked the pickup’s license number, which was registered to an address on Wolflin Avenue, and pulled the pickup over in the 6700 block of Thunder Road.

Colton Taylor Jones, who was driving the pickup, was the only person in the vehicle. Barbee said officers noticed a case of energy drinks, a backpack, a first-aid kit, tools, a tool belt, a machete, a hatchet, a purse and other items in the pickup’s passenger area and saw broken glass on the seat of the pickup.

Officers also found a .380-caliber handgun in the pickup that was reported stolen from a vehicle parked inside a garage at a home in the 8300 block of Paragon Drive, he said.

As many as three of the burglary calls involved someone taking remote garage door openers from vehicles parked in driveways to get into garages, Barbee said. He emphasized residents should take garage door openers out of vehicles parked in driveways.

Jones was booked into the Randall County Jail on preliminary charges while police continue to investigate the burglaries. His bond was not set Sunday night, officials said.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A 25-year-old Brownsville man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend just after 5 p.m. Friday is sought by police.

Police said they found the vehicle of Victor Manuel Hernandez abandoned downtown near Washington Street, but his whereabouts are unknown.

Interim police chief Orlando Rodriguez said Jasmine Reyes, 21, underwent surgery but that her condition has improved.

Police said Reyes arrived home on Keith Street in Brownsville when her ex-boyfriend approached her. Rodriguez said they argued, and she shut the fence to her yard. He said police believe he then shot her several times with a handgun.

Police have patrols looking for him. Police said Reyes was conscious when EMS arrived and told officers the name of her attacker.

Friends and family of Reyes told officers she had been having problems with the man, who she dated on and off for about five years, police said. She was recently involved with someone else, Rodriguez said.

While police roped off the home on the small street off Roosevelt Street, neighbors stood outside and watched, some reporting that they heard multiple gunshots and someone screaming.

Leonardo Fernandez, 18, was in his room when he heard the shots. His uncle yelled for someone to call an ambulance. Fernandez went to help, and said he saw five bullet wounds, some in the abdomen. His teenage sister, pre-teen brother and father were there trying to help Reyes, he said.

“I told her sister to get towels to put pressure on the wounds,” said Fernandez, who still looked shaken more than an hour after Reyes was taken to the hospital.

He said there were a few blood spots. The woman was able to whisper the name of her attacker, he said.

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The law enforcement officials in Symmes Township are looking for two persons who robbed a Symmes Township grocery store early Friday morning.

The store at Harper’s Point was robbed at around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning where the deputies of the Hamilton County Sheriff Department were called to respond. Two men pretending to be Kroger employees entered the grocery store and pretended to be reporting to work and knocked on a secure door, according to the reports.

The personnel inside the secured door allowed the two suspects to enter because the two men were wearing Kroger uniforms. The employee of Kroger in the 11300 block of Montgomery Road who was behind the door was then commanded to lay on the ground once the men got in.

The two robbers were armed with a handgun and threatened the employee. The employee complied and lay on the floor after the robbers commanded the worker to empty the money from the safe.

The robbers then fled through the front door of the grocery store with an undisclosed amount of money. Witnesses told the deputies that the suspects fled on foot.

Deputies described the first suspect as a white male in his twenty’s.  He was about five feet and seven inches tall. He was armed with a black semiautomatic handgun.

The second suspect was also a white male who is in his twenty’s. He was about five feet and four inches tall. He was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun. He was wearing a blue short sleeve, button down shirt, according to the reports.

There were no injuries that were reported in connection with the armed robbery.

The Hamilton County Sheriff Department are still looking for the two armed robbers. They are now asking for the public’s help for any information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.

GAHANNA, Ohio – Police are looking for six individuals who forced their way into a home and threatened a Gahanna resident Wednesday afternoon and took belongings from the home of the victim, according to the reports.

Police reports say that the incident took place at a home on the 700 block of Lindenhaven Drive in Gahanna where the officers were called to respond after the resident called 9-1-1 emergency that a group of men broke into his home.

When the police arrived at the scene, the resident told the police that the group of men rang the doorbell at around 12:25 early Wednesday afternoon. Two men claimed that they were selling Gahanna Lincoln High School booster tickets when he answered the door.

Police say that the victim was alone when the incident took place. The suspects were armed with a handgun. When they forced their way into the home, they commanded the victim to get into the bathroom and threatened him. They then took electronic equipments and other valuable items from the home and fled, according to the reports.

The suspects were believed to be driving a white old model van with a loud muffler.  Police believed that a driver was already waiting inside the van. The police are now looking for seven suspects.

The police officers told the residents to be on the lookout for the said vehicle and asked for the public’s help for any information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The victim whose name was not identified was not injured.

The police officers did not release any description of the six suspects and the driver of the van. There were no suspects that were named or arrested.

HARLINGEN, Texas — A 20-year-old man arrested for evading arrest reportedly obstructed officers during booking by stiffening up and pushing away from the booking desk, according to police.

A Harlingen Police Department press release states that Laguna Heights resident Javier Garcia Jr. was additionally charged with resisting arrest/search or transportation. The original evading arrest charge was upgraded to a state jail felony because of a previous conviction.

According to the press release, police were called to the 1700 block of North 77 Sunshine Strip at 11 p.m. on May 6 about a suspicious person that the caller said was eyeing his vehicle. The caller also advised that Garcia had previously been involved in a burglary to his vehicle.

When police approached Garcia, he ran away and wasn’t immediately located, but was later found hiding in a restroom at another apartment. Garcia was arraigned May 7. Bond on the evading charge was set at $10,000 and $3,000 on the resisting charge.

In a separate case, a 38-year-old woman accused of stealing two sets of perfumes from Bealls department store at 2313 West Lincoln Street was arrested about an hour after the store manager reported it.

A Harlingen Police Department press release states the manager and witnesses told police a woman took the merchandise valued at $154 on May 7 shortly after 6 p.m., ran from the store and fled the area in a black Pontiac two-door vehicle.

At 7:45 p.m. police responded to a report of suspicious activity involving a black Pontiac Firebird in the 600 block of North Eye Street. License plates matched the suspect vehicle in the theft reported at Bealls, the HPD press release states.

Police arrested Denise Davis, of Harlingen, who matched the description given by Bealls’ store manager. Officers did not recover the stolen merchandise. Davis was arraigned May 8 and bond was set at $2,500.

Meanwhile, a Combes resident wanted by the Austin Texas Parole Division for a violation was arrested when an officer checking the parking lot of a Harlingen bar at 2 a.m. saw a man standing and yelling at a woman sitting in the front passenger seat of a green vehicle.

A Harlingen Police Department press release states the officer saw signs of a physical disturbance, placed Jeremiah Cortez, 29, in the back seat of the patrol car and interviewed a 24-year-old woman. The woman told police that Cortez became jealous of her and accused her of looking at other men, the release said.

The release said that the woman and Cortez left the bar on the 1800 block of South 77 Sunshine Strip and went to the vehicle when Cortez began punching her on the head. Police said the officer saw visible redness and swelling to the woman’s forehead, forearms and hands.

Cortez was charged with assault/family violence. He was seen by a Harlingen Municipal Court Judge May 8 and bond on the assault charge was $3,500.
