ATHENS, Ohio – A police chief was taken into custody after he was caught red handed in a drug bust, according to the reports.

Police say that the police chief was arrested after purchasing prescription drugs from an undercover officer at his home.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office set up the sting operation and arrested the Buchtel Chief of Police Kelsey Lanning at his residence in Nelsonville Wednesday, according to the reports.

The 33-year-old Buchtel Chief of Police bought Oxycodone pills at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to the reports.

A search warrant was issued after the Athens County Sheriff’s Office had received the information of the purchase of prescription doors by police chief. The deputies were able to discover other drugs inside the residence of the police chief. Some of the illegal drugs that were discovered were marijuana, crushed up pills and snort tube, according to the reports.

Lanning was not on duty when the drug bust took place. He was arrested on the scene together with his 29-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Willison.

The two individuals were taken into custody without any incident.

The Athens County Sheriff’s deputies transported the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail where he was booked for 3rd degree Aggravated Possession of Drugs and 5th degree trafficking in Drugs. He was arraigned in Athens Municipal Court Thursday morning.  His bond was set at $50,000, according to the records.

His 29-year-old girlfriend was also charged with possession of an illegal narcotic, according to the reports.

Other news media outlets also indicated that as part of the investigation, the Buchtel police evidence room was seized. This is also for the reason that Lanning has the only access to it.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A College Hill Drive-Thru clerk grabbed a gun and shot and wounded an alleged robber late Wednesday evening, according to the Cincinnati police.

The incident took place at the C&D Drive-Thru, 1979 North Bend Road. The College Hill store clerk told the police that the man was about to rob the store. He Felt threatened and when the man was about to rob the store, he pulled out a gun and opened fire at the suspect.

The shooting incident that took place at around 10:45 p.m. late Wednesday night wounded the suspect. He was able to run but collapsed on Connecticut Avenue because of his injury, according to the reports.

The Cincinnati police responded to the scene after a resident reported of a man who was shot several times was seen lying unconscious in front of his driveway.

The paramedics who responded to the scene transported the suspect to the University Hospital where he was listed in a serious condition, according to the reports.

Cincinnati police say that they also took into custody a second person at the C&D Drive-Thru. They are trying to determine whether he was an accomplice to the attempted robbery or he was just a customer in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was apprehended without any incident.

There was no immediate information that was available in connection with the recent condition of the wounded suspect and his identity. The identity of the second person who was taken into custody was not released.

The name of the College Hill store clerk was not released. The incident is still being investigated by the Cincinnati Police Department, according to the reports.

There were no other injuries that were reported.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The law enforcement officers in Cincinnati say that a victim was shot several times while inside his car early Thursday morning in Over-The-Rhine, according to the reports.

The Cincinnati police officers were called to respond to the Wade Street near West Liberty after several shots were fired on the area. The shots echoed in the area at around 12:15 a.m. early Thursday morning, according to the police reports.

Once on the scene, they notice a car that had several bullet holes on it. It was not clear whether the driver of the vehicle was struck by a bullet.

The Cincinnati police detectives were not able to identify any suspect. The name of the victim was not immediately available.

On a separate story, the body of the 59-year-old woman who was discovered dead Monday is a homicide case, according to the reports.

The 59-year-old Susan Cancasci of Mayfield Heights was last seen last Thursday, according to the family members. Her dead body was spotted by a driver under a sidewalk bridge in the 3400 block of Hamilton Avenue in Cleveland, according to the reports.

Autopsy reveals that she had a fractured skull, cerebral contusions and a blunt impact injury to her head. This led the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office to conclude that her death was a homicide, according to the reports.

The woman whose dead body was found partially covered with snow is believed to have a mental problem.

The Cleveland police are now asking for the public’s help for any information that will lead to the identification and the arrest of the killer.

As of today, there were no suspects that were taken into custody in connection with the death of the 59-year-old woman.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police in Columbus say that a man was shot in the chest Tuesday morning and was transported in a hospital where he was in a critical condition, according to the reports.

The Columbus police officers and the medic personnel were called to respond to the 1200 block of South Ohio Avenue following a report of several shots that were fired in the area.

Columbus police investigators say that the shooting incident took place at around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The medic personnel discovered the victim with multiple gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to the Grant Medical Center where he was listed in a critical condition.

The Columbus police investigators are still investigating the shooting incident. They are still trying to determine the motives for the shooting.

The name of the victim was not immediately available.  There were no suspects that were identified in the shooting incident.

The Columbus police are now asking for the public’s help for any information that will help identify and apprehend the suspect.

On a separate story, a portrait of a former dean from an Ohio State University engineering and science building was stolen, according to the reports.

Reports say that the stolen portrait was that of the late dean of the College of Engineering, Charles MacQuigg.

School authorities believe that the theft was a student. They also believed that the act was just a prank. They added that they want the portrait to be returned immediately.

There were no suspects on the said disappearance of the painting that was painted by James Hopkins. He was an electrical engineer and was once a chair of the university arts department, according to Ohio State facilities and laboratory manager, Kenneth Kushner.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A 26-year-old Cincinnati man spend the Valentine’s Day inside a prison after he was arrested for stealing urns at a chapel on West King Drive, according to the reports.

r-old Cincinnati man stole several items from the Hillside Chapel on West King Drive where he was working. His grandmother was a former employee of the chapel. She worked their for more than twenty-five years and quit.

The 26-year-old Cincinnati man was identified as Alan Smith of Harrison. It is believed that he had stolen at least twenty urns. The urns were made of bronze. Some of them are empty but some of them contained human remains, according to the reports.

Cincinnati police say that the suspect also stole an air condition unit, down spouts and copper wiring. Police say that the suspect stole the items and sold them for scrap.

The owner of the business noticed the urns were missing after he found the ashes in their individual plastic bags that were hidden in the shaft. He also said that three of the remains that were discovered in the shaft indicated that they were cremated on the 60’s and 70’s.

The owner of the chapel is still trying to find the missing remains before he will notify the families of the removed remains, according to the reports.

Police investigators say that the urns were at first rejected by the scrap yard. They accepted the urns after the suspect made it look like scrap metals.

NEWS5 reported that the owner of the Hillside Chapel said “What’s the sickest you’ve ever been, and your stomach is rolling the next morning? You get my drift? My stomach’s been rolling ever since I found this.”

Smith was charged of theft, vandalism and damaging a memorial to the dead.  He was booked Wednesday in Hamilton County Jail, according to the reports.

MADEIRA, Ohio – The 31-year-old Madeira mother of an 8-year-old Madeira Elementary student was arrested at the school Tuesday afternoon in connection with drug related charges, according to the reports.

The Madeira Police officers were called to respond to the school after an employee of the school reported that a parent appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs in the school vicinity just before the students were dismissed.

Other news outlets say that the 31-year-old Madeira mother who is identified as Emily C. Rosenberger was going to fetch her daughter who was having a Valentine’s party at the school. Rosenberger was carrying a purse full of drugs.

One of the school’s staff noticed that the woman was acting strangely as she was walking out of the school.

The Madeira police officers who were on the scene discovered that she was carrying hydrocodone, OxyContin and white powder believe to be cocaine, according to the reports.

The Hamilton County Children’s Services was informed by the officers and gave the custody of the child to the grandparents. The unidentified 8-year-old child was transported to the grandparents by bus.

also indicated that she was in a possession of a straw with white powder inside it and the screen of her cell phone had white powder in it which is believed to be drugs.

She was arrested in the school property. There was no incident when she was arrested. She was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning, according to the reports.

The Madeira police officers transported the woman to the Hamilton County Justice Center.  She was charged with three counts of drug possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the reports.

ALTON, Texas — Authorities said a suspect in a home invasion Wednesday near the intersection of La Homa Road and Mile 6 1/2 N. St. has died after being shot and wounded by a tactical unit with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said two gunmen raided a home about noon and managed to leave with some belongings. The suspects fled in a vehicle, but an occupant of the home chased them while calling authorities to report the crime.

The suspects drove north on La Homa, then turned west on Mile 7 North and then turned south onto Bentsen Palm Drive South. A sheriff’s deputy patrol unit caught up to the suspect vehicle, but the two occupants bailed out near the intersection of Bentsen Palm and Mile 6 1/2 North Street, the sheriff said.

From there, the two fled east on foot toward La Homa, firing at deputies as they tried to escape. But deputies held their fire amid concern about stray gunshots in the residential area. A Sheriff’s Office tactical unit arrived on the scene and engaged the criminals, Treviño said.

Multiple shots were fired, at least one of which struck one of the gunmen. He was subsequently taken into custody and was being transported to a local hospital for treatment but has since died of his injuries. It’s unclear whether he died at the hospital or en route to it.

Meanwhile, the tactical unit arrested the second gunman and deputies recovered some stolen items from the suspect vehicle. Deputies briefly drew their weapons again and there were some more tense moments as two other individuals tried to cross through the crime scene in a pickup truck, but deputies subsequently allowed them to leave after determining they were not involved in the crime.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A College Station couple were arrested on Valentine’s Day after conversations on Facebook revealed they are responsible for damaging a vehicle.

According to police reports, Bryan police responded to the 2800 block of Oakside Drive around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 30 for a criminal mischief report wherein a witness told police that she saw a woman throwing a rock at a Jeep Wrangler, breaking its window.

Police said the vehicle’s owner believed the description of the person sounded like his ex-girlfriend, Gina Noel Wilfong, 21. Two days later, officers were called to the same location for another criminal mischief report.

Police said the vehicle’s owner reported he heard a loud sound and stepped outside to see Wilfong leaving the area in a car. The man then noticed more damage to his Jeep. Its back window was broken, a seat cover was torn and the paint had been chipped, reports state.

The man told police Wilfong was in a relationship with Joseph Woods Smith, 20, and the pair had bragged about damaging his Jeep on Facebook, according to police reports. The couple damaged the Jeep owner’s vehicle again on Feb. 13, reports state.

The conversation between Wilfong and Smith was found on the social media site. Wilfong, who goes by Lily Anderson, wrote on Facebook that she was angry that her ex talked bad about her online, and so she smashed the glass on his new Jeep, reports state. Smith replied to her post that “breaking glass is awesome stress reliever.”

The reports state Wilfong told police she’d been forced to marry her ex-boyfriend and they’d just divorced. Police said the Jeep’s owner got a divorce in October, but not from Wilfong. The man told police he dated Wilfong for two weeks before kicking her out of his house, reports state.

Wilfong and Smith were charged with criminal mischief causing damage of just over $1,500. They remained in the Brazos County Jail on Wednesday, each without bail.

KILLEEN, Texas — A 24-year-old man who was acquitted in a 2008 Killeen murder is facing a new felony charge after police arrested him over the weekend.

Antwon Dwyon Harris has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. He is in custody at Bell County Jail.

In April 2011, a jury had found Harris not guilty of the 2008 murder of Fred Dimock Jr. He faced trial twice for Dimock’s death, with the first ending in a mistrial after the jury became deadlocked.

On Friday, police arrested Harris after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit. The initial report which officers got from dispatch listed Harris as the suspect. The stolen vehicle was located by officers in the area of Wells Circle in Killeen.

Officers spotted Harris walking toward the car as they observed it. Harris made eye contact with officers and changed the direction he was walking. He then began running behind an apartment building and dropped a handgun in the parking lot, the affidavit states.

Police chased him on foot and apprehended him. They then retrieved the handgun, a .45-caliber semi-automatic Ruger. The affidavit states Harris was also found in possession of an unspecified amount of marijuana. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Harris Saturday, setting his bond at $100,000.

Jail records show Harris also is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft of property, less than $1,500, credit card abuse, possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces in a drug-free zone and criminal trespass. His total bond is $315,000.

Harris was also convicted previously of fleeing a police officer in January 2007 in a Michigan court.

EL PASO, Texas — An arrest affidavit states a 31-year-old woman allegedly ran down and killed her husband early Saturday, just three days before Valentine’s Day, then told police that her 34-year-old husband died in his sleep.

However, Laura Patricia Juarez allegedly admitted to hitting and pinning her husband, Salvador Juarez, against a gate with her white Dodge Durango after police confronted her about injuries on his body and the damaged truck.

Laura Juarez told investigators she and her husband had gone out to a nightclub Friday night, her arrest affidavit states. When they returned early Saturday to their apartment at 7840 Knights in the Lower Valley, they began to argue and the argument eventually turned physical.

Salvador Juarez left the apartment. Then shortly after, Laura Juarez left to look for him in her SUV. She initially told police she found her husband intoxicated at the entry gate of the apartment complex and picked him up. When they returned to their apartment, she dragged him out of the SUV and into the apartment.

She also told officers she left her husband on their bedroom floor and they both fell asleep there. When she woke up, he wasn’t responsive. She then called 911 at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to report her husband wasn’t breathing.

Investigators noted in the affidavit that Salvador Juarez had injuries on his lower legs and the Dodge Durango had visible damage to the front left side and back left quarter panel. The complex’s entry gate also had extensive damage “matching and consistent to the damage on her vehicle.”

When questioned further, Laura Juarez eventually admitted to seeing her husband standing on the sidewalk near the entry gate and turned the truck in his direction, eventually pinning him against the gate and the pavement.

Meanwhile, police didn’t immediately release Laura Juarez’s mug shot, citing the ongoing investigation. But she has been charged with murder and remained in the El Paso County Jail Monday in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
