he Royal Stone brand of solid surface shower pans are the pans that I manufacture and will use to illustrate the simplicity and ease of installation that can be had when installing a composite shower pan. Unlike fabricated solid surface shower pans, the Royal Stone shower pans are a cast one-piece solid surface product. By casting the pan as a one-piece unit, there are no stresses introduced in the pan, and there are many other features engineered and designed into this pan. The most obvious features are the large radius transition between the pan floor and its sidewalls. Secondly, the flange (also called a weep edge) is 1-1/2" tall. I have seen pans that do not incorporate an integral flange or have flanges 1/2" to 1" tall. The added height is designed to minimize, if not eliminate, any water being drawn up behind the wall surround panels that could cause water damage to the shower sub-structure. Royal Stone's pans have a minimum wall thickness of 1/2" and the webbing elements have a wide foot with large stress relieving radius corners between the pan floor and the webbing. All shower pans are engineered to support the weight of 3/4" thick (2 cm) granite slabs as well as all other commonly used wall materials like tile, fiberglass, acrylic, and solid surface panels. Finally, regardless of floor loading, the Royal Stone pan floor is so solid that it feels like one is standing on a rigid concrete floor. There is no perceptible flexing or oil-canning of the pan floor. Thus, there is no possibility of floor fatigue and cracking over time and the potential for pan failure is eliminated. When attaching solid surface shower pans and wall panels, ONLY use 100% SILICONE. Other adhesives or caulks may harden. The loss of the elastic bond between the solid surface and other materials can cause stresses in the solid surface. In turn, these stresses may cause fractures of the part and void the manufacturer's warranty.

When building a house, installing the sill plates correctly will determine how straight and square the finished product will be. Hopefully the concrete contractor did his job and left you with a reasonably straight and square foundation. A good concrete contractor can make a framing contractors job of building a house a piece of cake. Even if the foundation is slightly out of square, a good framing contractor can adjust his sill plates and correct the problem. When laying out the sill plates, snap chalk lines on the biggest square of the foundation. This will usually be the main part of the house. After snapping the front or back and one side, check for square. This is easily done by using the 3-4-5 method. Measuring 3' from the corner on the side, and 4' from the corner on the front or back. Make a pencil mark on the chalk line at these dimensions. Measure the distance between these two marks on the diagonal and if perfectly square will equal 5'. If it is not square, adjust the shortest of these two lines so that your measurement equals 5'. Once squared these lines can be used as a reference point to square and keep parallel other sections of the houses foundation, like a garage or sunroom. By using the biggest square portion of the house, your work will be more accurate. After your chalklines are all snapped, your ready to lay the sill sealer and sill plates. The sill sealer is put on top of the foundation wall first. This material comes in two forms. One is very similar to fiberglass wall insulation except thinner and with the same kraft paper backing. The other is a 1/4" foam similar to laminate flooring underlayment. Both materials come in widths to accommodate 2x4 and 2x6 sill plates. I prefer the foam sill sealer for its ease to work with and what I feel will keep drafts and moisture from penetrating under the sill plate better. Both sealers are installed butting up to the chalk line to the inside of the foundation wall. Both are pushed down over the anchor bolts till it pops through the sealer.

Antique coffee pots are not something that most people would consider for their modern kitchens. There are whole magazines devoted to kitchens with gleaming stainless steel appliances and all of the conveniences they offer. As I drove to her place, I shook my head in sympathy, wondering how people survived without automatic coffee makers. I felt that they could have at least designed it better. This one was made out of metal and was a long way from its modern attractive cousins. It was only about 6" high, so at least they didn't have to be concerned about taking in too much caffeine back then. After my grandmother plied me with the obligatory homemade cookies and tea, I showed her the coffee pot. She perked up and took it from me with glee of a child receiving a birthday present. As she looked it over, she pointed out to me that the metal was actually silver and that the design of the pot dated back to the Victorian era. It had the mark of a well known London manufacturer called Goldsmiths Company of London. I couldn't believe it. I had come this close to throwing away a valuable treasure. One that was rich in history and certainly more worthy of display than my modern one. My grandmother got out some silver polish and cloths and cleaned it up. Looking at the transformed pot, I could now see why someone would want to own one. It was really beautiful.

But it will also improve your ability to sleep at night and make your motor home safe from fires. Building a grounding device is not hard and it is important. I recommend that you buy a non-stainless steel, steel spike which has an eye hook on top of it. The Spike should be about 8-10 inches long. Then get some steel cable about six feet of it. Attach the cable to the eyehook on the steel spike and tighten it so it cannot move, meaning it will maintain contact. Next connect the other end to the frame of your motor home by drilling a hole in one of the side storage boxes. Find the nearest hole in the frame, which is not being used. Get an appropriate sized bolt, four fender washers, one nut, one lock nut, one lock washer. Thread the cable thru the hole in the storage box and then sand the frame down to the metal. Next tighten the cable onto the frame as tight as you can double bolted with the lock nut on last. Divide up the fender washers on each side and the lock washer on the threaded side of the bolt before the nuts. Now using silicon caulking compound to keep water from seeping thru the box where the cable goes thru. Lastly you may need to cut a slot the exact dimensions of the cable along the bottom of the door on your storage box so you can allow the grounding system to be deployed while still locking the storage box. Your grounding cable system will remain in your storage box until needed. To use, open the box press the cable in the grove slot you cut on your storage box and use a hard rubber mallet to pound it into the ground, to make your grounding. This should work fine and you will be glad you did.

For the money a telemetric heart monitor should have been included instead of making it an option. The option includes a compatible chest worn heart monitor. On the positive side we liked the number of programmable resistance levels (20) and the 10 preset workout programs included. Some the ellipticals programs will flat beat you up with a great routine. Setting up and assembling the EX75 elliptical trainer was relative easy, however the directions were very poor. The EX75 elliptical has a smaller footprint and with the base wheels we did not have a problem moving it around. As with all elliptical trainers you must be site height conscious. They almost all require a minimum of 8 feet of overhead clearance.

As with many other industries, recent increases in gas and oil prices over the past few months have started to affect the costs involved in producing the automotive solution. Considering the primary component is Urea and the continuing increases in energy costs have driven up the cost of production in plants across Europe. Several leading manufacturers of the solution have started to make changes already to compensate for the increased cost of production. With the recent change in the euro exchange rate, British suppliers are even worse off than before. Now with prices exceeding one pound per litre at the pump, the changes have hit many operators hard. Transport costs continue to rise and are higher than ever. Admittedly, drivers and fleet owners will still benefit from the savings to be made when running SCR equipped vehicles but even still it is only a matter of time before haulage rates are increased which will no doubt affect most markets. Inevitably cost savings will need to be made elsewhere, fortunately SCR equipped vehicles will continue to avoid London's recent high emissions tax and other European cities which are expected to follow suit (Birmingham, Paris and Milan) will also offer some comfort to modern fleet owners. Buying in bulk is not recommended due to the short shelf life of the product. One thing is for certain, transportation costs will continue to rise until pollution levels reach an acceptable level.

One of the most popular beverages, tea, has spawned so many different varieties that it is impossible to keep a tab on the different methods of production and brewing. A simple leaf of a wild bush is today consumed in so many parts of the world in so many different ways. Not only that, the way in which tea is cultivated also varies depending on the region. What is even more mind-boggling is that even in a region, the methods of growing tea have kept evolving over time. Taking a simple example, tea growing in China has evolved over the years depending on the way it is consumed by the people. In ancient China, when tea was mainly used as offerings, the tea bush used to grow in the wild and the leaves could be plucked at anytime of the day. During the Tang Dynasty, emphasis was not laid on cultivation or plucking of tea leaves, but on the process of oxidation after the plucking had taken place. All the tea leaves were compressed into cakes. In the Song Dynasty again, tea was carefully cultivated in gardens in such a manner so that no water accumulation would take place near the roots and the air would be neither too dry nor too moisture laden. The entire process was very time consuming and labor intensive. Care was taken too pluck only the young leaves and buds which were covered with silvery white hairs. These would then be steamed and ground into a fine powder. This was the time when white tea evolved. Moving along, the procedure again changed in the Ming Dynasty. Here loose leaf teas were the norm. A serious sports fan can watch more games or matches than sportswriters in the first half of the 20th Century and just as many as sportswriters today. So, to let only sportswriters and sportscasters vote for sports awards and not let the serious fans of a particular sport vote does not seem fair. Now, to be fair to sportswriters and sportscasters, they do have the slight advantage of speaking to more athletes and coaches than the rest of us. However, with the various pre-game shows, numerous Sportscenters throughout the day on ESPN, and talk-radio programs that now exist, the serious sports fans eventually hear a lot of what the athletes and coaches have to say about their sports and their athletes. The main problem with having only the sportswriters and sportscasters vote is that the sample size is just too small. In the NBA, for example, only 96 people (excluding millions of knowledgeable basketball fans) vote for the MVP award and only 15 people (head coaches in their respective conferences) vote for the seven non-starting all-stars. Well, everyone has their own personal likes, biases, and prejudices which inevitably affect their opinion on who is the best at something, sports or otherwise. The only way to counter this fact is to have a large number of people vote, so that the voters' personal likes, biases, and prejudices offset each other. A good argument could be made that the players in a particular sport should do the voting for any awards or all-star selections, since they know better than anyone who are the best players or athletes in their sport. This falls short of being ideal, however, because the sample size would again be too small. Yet in some sports, having the players vote almost seems necessary for certain positions. Take the offensive linemen in football, for example. I have no idea who is the best center in the NFL (it is just too difficult to isolate their performance in the middle of all those big bodies crashing into other in such a small space), and neither do you. However, if you polled just 224 individuals, namely the seven starting linemen and linebackers for the 32 NFL teams, I bet you would get an accurate answer. So, other than this unique example, what is the best and fairest way to conduct polls for sports awards and all-star selections? I think it is to let everyone vote, including serious (ideally) fans, players, coaches, sportswriters, and sportscasters. This will increase the accuracy and insure the legitimacy of the voting/rankings. I suppose the players' votes in a particular sport should count more (kinda like the NFL pro bowl selection -- which is a good system); however, this is technically not practical at this time. With millions of people instead of 96 people voting, we will come as close as possible to officially "settling" all those sports debates that you have had and heard through the years. In addition, we will answer the current sports questions about who is the best or who had the best season. Let the debates begin!

Racing Clutch When you begin to make more power in your (manual transmission) vehicle by adding aftermarket modifications, it can become enticing to upgrade your clutch. There are many types and manufacturers out there, and I will try to make the choices a bit clearer here. First off, when shopping for a clutch, people have the tendency to buy a much too heavy-duty clutch, which can have serious negative effects. You really have to first determine your specific needs when choosing a clutch. One thing many distributors of clutches like to advertise is how much horsepower their clutch can hold. This is a misconception. Clutches hold torque, not horsepower. Types of clutches in order of holding capacity from less to more: Organic, Kevlar, Ceramic, Feramic, Carbon, Sintered Iron. Organic clutches are the type used by most car manufacturers in their cars. They allow smooth engagement, but don't like hard abuse (like launching repeatedly) and will overheat. Kevlar clutches are similar to this, but have shorter life and can be ruined by overheating (unlike organic ones). Feramic provides a good compromise between organic and the more extreme clutches. Carbon and especially sintered iron clutches are really more for racing applications, have very abrupt engagement, and will wear the flywheel (Sintered iron even requires a special flywheel). One main point you should take into consideration is that the more torque the clutch can hold, the more stress it will put on the drivetrain. The OEM stock clutch is always the easiest on your transmission, and mostly the smoothest to engage. Racing go kart gear ratios are figured using the number of teeth on the rear sprocket of your go kart divided by the number of teeth on the clutch gear on your go kart engine. For example if you were running a 15t clutch gear and a 60t rear gear it would be 60 / 15=4. Simply put this means 1 revolution of the axle to 4 revolutions of the crank. But in order to get a true picture of a racing go kart gear ratio a karter must use rear tire circumference in the equation. If a kart racer is using the same gears as someone else but you have 34" rear tire circumference and someone else has 36", the true ratios are not equal. To figure the true ratio you will want to use IPR (inches per revolution) which simply means the number of inches a kart will travel per each revolution of engine. To figure IPR use this equation: Rear Tire Circumference(T) x clutch gear(C) divided by rear gear(R) = IPR. For example if one racer(Racer A) was running a 15t clutch gear with a 60t rear gear and their tires were 34" the equation would be 34 x 15 / 60 = 8.5. This means the kart would travel 8.5 inches per revolution of engine. If another racer(Racer B) had the same gears but had 36" tires look what happens. 36 x 15 / 60 = 9.0. Even though both these racers were using the same gears they were not running an equal set-up. Racer A would be faster coming off the corners and Racer B would be faster down the straight. So what if Racer B wanted to run the same IPR as Racer A but still use the same tires? To figure that we can replace Racer B's 60 with Racer A's IPR. 36 x 15 / 8.5 = 63.52. This means that for things to be equal, Racer B would need to change their rear gear to a 63t or 64t.
