Well this time I really went for it, I really installed it. After downloaded the iso, I just installed it, and after that my jaw was dropped. Looking the effects that Ubuntu has offer me...

Cool themes, cool effects ...everything so amazed me at the first time. Comparing my previous OS, its so 'square' ^_^ I followed all the Ubuntu instructions, it told me to upgrade the system.

Well then I changed the repo, taken from the local repo, here at Indonesian repo, so it was kinda fast. And sure I was glad, and also I installed my restricted driver for my ATI card.

But, after all the upgrade was done, I rebooted and I found something that really bothered me. I lost all the effects. Cause of the ATI wont let me use it, damn eh.

I tried to work on it, but it kept failed. Maybe next time I will succeed. Coz I aint got time to do that now...

The conclusion is I love it, well Im happy tho.

Fully Recommended

FluxBox 1.0 Came Again

Fluxbox came up again after 1 year, many bug fixes and lots of themes check it all tho ...

• New default style: bloe
• New styles: ostrich zimek_darkblue, zimek_green, zimek_bisque, carp, arch, bora_black, bora_blue, bora_green, green_tea, bloe
• Fixed shape handling, now shaped corners have border
• Allow negative numbers in command "Workspace"
• Added utility fluxbox-remote
• Allows script access to most fluxbox
commands
• Support must be turned on in the init file with session.screen.allowRemoteActions; the syntax is, e.g., fluxbox-remote "CustomMenu ~/.fluxbox/custommenu"
• Added keycommands :AddWorkspace and :RemoveLastWorkspace
• Added some missing Open Office entries and window managers, plus some other minor changes in fluxbox-generate_menu

Updated languages:

• Swedish
• Chinese
• German
• Spanish
• English (US)
• English (UK)
• Russian
• French
• Finnish
• Portuguese

Through the bug fixes we can see updates for compiling with gcc 4.3, fixed resource usage due to Skype 1.4, fix submenu placement with xinerama after moving the menu between heads, fixed some window placement issues and many many more. (y/n) [y]: n
Goodbye!

Directory Setup

You do not need to make a /home/ftp/users or /home/ftp/bin directory. Because when you add new user you automatically make new directory.

* /home/ftp - This is the main directory. It should be owned by root and have permissions of 555.
* /home/ftp/etc - This is entirely optional and not recommended, as it only serves to give out information on users which exist on your box. If you want your anonymous ftp directory to appear to have real users attached to your files, you should copy /etc/pwd.db and /etc/group to this directory. This directory should be mode 511, and the two files should be mode 444. These are used to give owner names as opposed to numbers. There are no passwords stored in pwd.db, they are all in spwd.db, so don't copy that over.
* /home/ftp/pub - This is a standard directory to place files in which you wish to share. This directory should also be mode 555.

Start The FTP Service

All you need now is start the ftp service using the inetd or from the rc. If you want the users using their home directories you have to edit a little at the /etc/ftpchroot.

Now its ready transfer files ...

Fully Recommended

Manipulating with pfctl

Stay with your OpenBSD tho, coz its so much fun. This tutorial about working with pf and pfctl. Specially with tables, we can manipulate the table using the pfctl.

Tables can be manipulated on the fly by using pfctl(8). For instance, to add entries to the <spammers> table created above:

# pfctl -t spammers -T add 218.70.0.0/16

This will also create the <spammers> table if it doesn't already exist. To list the addresses in a table:

# pfctl -t spammers -T show

The -v argument can also be used with -T show to display statistics for each table entry. To remove addresses from a table:

# pfctl -t spammers -T delete 218.70.0.0/16

For more information on manipulating tables with pfctl, please read the pfctl(8) manpage.

This howto taken from the OpenBSD PF FAQ

Fully Recommended

Why OpenBSD ?

After 7 months I have been using OpenBSD, I never so right about the OS that I chose. This puffy really rocks. From the freedom till the security, Theo and the other developers really pay attention to its community.

Today I read the http://undeadly.org and found that Linux use the Reyk's driver (Atheros wireless driver) and try GPL'd the driver. Last time they attacked OpenBSD developer in public, and I hope that OpenBSD wont do the same thing like Linux Developers did.

And noticed that http://kerneltrap.org/node/14229, Theo is trying to make better OS. As I quoted his words :
"Then along came Reyk, and a few others who helped him, who wrote a
completely free replacement for the non-free atheros driver. But did
the NetBSD and FreeBSD developers choose to participate and help him?

No, in fact they actively work through postings to reduce developer's
desire to work with Reyk. A few years ago there were even core
developers in those projects passing along a meme that Reyk's code was
illegal or immoral in some sense. Shame on them.
",Theo said.

Well, I know Theo dance on them. But, Theo hit the jackpot once again this time. And NetBSD and FreeBSD should think about their community. Not those politic craps. Well cheers for OpenBSD, Theo, OpenBSD Developers and the communities.

I never so right about this. Freedom !!!

Fully Recommended

MRTG With OpenBSD

This tutorial helps you to build your own MRTG server, to capture traffic from your router, switch or other things.
So I'm gonna make quick tutorial, so I'm gonna cut the craps.

Firstly we need to make sure we already have these :

- gd
- mrtg
- net-snmp
- zlib
- libpng

If you already got those, shall we move on. If not you have to install it first, using packages or just download the binary package from their website. You can check them use the pkg_info, for example :

$ pkg_info | grep gd
gd-2.0.34 library for dynamic creation of images

Now we need to configure the snmpd.conf

$ locate snmpd.conf
/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

# System contact
syscontact technical@mrtg.net
syslocation Jakarta
#      sec.name   source          community (password)
com2sec MRTG     192.168.8.99          COMMUNITY

#
#      group.name sec.model  sec.name
group   RWGroup    V1         ROUTER
group   ROGroup    V1         LocalLan
#
#            incl/excl subtree   mask
view all     included  .1        80
view system  included  system    fe
#
# context sec.model sec.level prefix read write notif
access ROGroup "" V1 noauth exact all none none
access RWGroup "" V1 noauth exact all all all
access Others "" V1 noauth exact system none all

For further info you can check it from here http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/ .
Now we need to activate the snmpd :

#/usr/local/sbin/snmpd -c /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

If want to snmpd automatically start on boot you need to put it in the /etc/rc.local

#echo "/usr/local/sbin/snmpd -c /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf" >> /etc/rc.local

And after that we need to know is it the snmpd active or not, by doing this :

#/usr/local/bin/snmpwalk -Os -c [community-string] -v 1 [ip-number]

You have to fill the community string and the ip number. After that you can see outputs.

bla-bla-bla ......................
snmpInTotalReqVars.0 = Counter32: 6778
snmpInTotalSetVars.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpInGetRequests.0 = Counter32: 1440
snmpInGetNexts.0 = Counter32: 1742
snmpInSetRequests.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpInGetResponses.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpInTraps.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutTooBigs.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutNoSuchNames.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutBadValues.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutGenErrs.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutGetRequests.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutGetNexts.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutSetRequests.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpOutGetResponses.0 = Counter32: 3192
snmpOutTraps.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpEnableAuthenTraps.0 = INTEGER: disabled(2)
snmpSilentDrops.0 = Counter32: 0
snmpProxyDrops.0 = Counter32: 0

Congrats, you just installed your snmp.

As we know apache is jailed (chroot-ed) at the /var/www or you can use the '-u' flag. Then you have to make folder in the /var/www/mrtg. Now I want to capture traffic from my router ( OpenBSD Router ) 192.168.8.2, I had snmp installed there. So I make another folder at the /var/www/mrtg/router/ or just use the router's IP /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2.

#cfgmaker --global 'WorkDir: /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/' \
--global 'Options[_]:bits,growright' \
--output /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/192.168.8.2.cfg \
COMMUNITY@192.168.8.2

You can check that 192.168.8.2.cfg already there ( /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2 ), now we need to run this. We need to add these lines to the /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/192.168.8.2.cfg

LoadMIBs: /usr/share/snmp/mibs/UCD-SNMP-MIB.txt
RunAsDaemon: Yes

#/usr/local/bin/mrtg /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/192.168.8.2.cfg

You will see so many errors output, that's normal. Now put that line to the crontab.
#crontab -e
*/5 * * * * /usr/local/bin/mrtg /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/192.168.8.2.cfg

And save your work, it will run for every 5 minutes ( man crontab). Now we need an index.html so we can easily access it from the browser. Run this command to make your index

#indexmaker --output=/var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/index.html /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2/192.168.8.2.cfg

Whamm, now you already have your own index.html at the /var/www/mrtg/192.168.8.2.
Now, all we need to configure the httpd.conf. And you are ready to go.

*PS : You need to install the snmp to the machine you want to capture, it will be the same way.

Fully Recommended

diskd On OpenBSD

How to make your diskd working stable and fine as you expected ? Well here are couple steps you need to follow. Well, no need to push harder this time tho.First we need edit the kernel, maybe you need to make your own kernel and compile it. First you need to copy your default kernel,at this case your GENERIC and add couple lines to the nu kernel. I copy my GENERIC kernel and rename it to DISKD.

## meSSage queuE
option MSGMNB=16384 # max characters per message queue
option MSGMNI=40 # max number of message queue identifiers
option MSGSEG=2048 # max number of message segments in the system
option MSGSSZ=64 # size of a message segment (Must be 2^N)
option MSGTQL=1024 # max amount of messages in the system

#eof

Those lines taken from the Squid-Cache. And lil bit tweaking at the /etc/sysctl.conf

kern.maxclusters=65535          #Default 6144
kern.maxvnodes=8192             #Default 1310
kern.maxfiles=8192              #Default 1772

Thanks to vty220@jogja, and those are my default. And after it you have to compile and install nu kernel. Have a nice diskd tho .. ciao

Fully Recommended

Make Dansguardian as Content Scanner

After so long I haven't post anything, so this time I post something that might helping you to make content scanner for Dansguardian. Well, this plugin really works fine. But,it has side effect your client's browser will get slower than it used to.

Here are the steps to make clamd as a content scanner. Edit your dansguardian.conf (/etc/dansguardian or /etc/webguardian or your own dansguardian's conf dir)

Comment out this :
contentscanner = '/etc/webguardian/contentscanners/clamdscan.conf'.
And edit the /etc/webguardian/contentscanners/clamdscan.conf.

# edit this to match the location of your ClamD UNIX domain socket
clamdudsfile = '/tmp/clamd'

And now we all set to go, make sure you already have dansguardian on your system and already running well.

Fully Recommended

How To - OpenBSD 4.0 + MySQL + PHP 5

We do all know that OpenBSD secure by default, and we all know that how hard to work web server on OpenBSD. And may this how to help you all. First of all the apache is chroot-ed at the /var/www, if you want to disable this 'jailing' thing you may need to do this command

$sudo /sbin/httpd -u
or
edit the /etc/rc.conf.local
# use -u to disable chroot, see httpd(8)
httpd_flags="-u"

And lets get start, we need all these packages mysql-server, php5-core, php5-mysql, php5-mcrypt, php5-mhash, php5-domxml, php5-imap, php5-pear. You could add more modules later.

First we need to export the PKG_PATH, do this to export your nearest OpenBSD ftp, and you may need to take a look what arch you use (i386, amd64 and so on).

$export PKG_PATH=ftp://ftp.it.net.au/mirrors/OpenBSD/4.0/packages/i386/

Then we just need to install all the packages :

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v mysql-server<version>
$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-core<version>
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -s
$sudo cp /usr/local/share/examples/php5/php.ini-recommended /var/www/conf/php.ini

And now install the modules, and activate it
$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-mysql
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a mysql
Activating extension : mysql

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-mhash
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a mhash

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-mcrypt
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a mcrypt

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-domxml
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a domxml

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-imap
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a imap

$sudo /usr/sbin/pkg_add -v php5-pear
$sudo /usr/local/sbin/phpxs -a pear

Now we all set, now we need to run the mysql server
$sudo /usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe &

And now you must make your own login password.After that you need to edit the httpd.conf and add un-comment this following line AddType application/x-httpd-conf .php

$sudo nano /var/www/conf/httpd.conf

Now, restart the apache server using apachectl or /usr/sbin/httpd -u. </version></version>
On OpenBSD, apache comes chrooted in the /var/www directory. MySQL's default socket location is in /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock. This causes a problem since apache can't "see" the /var/run directory. To overcome this, we need to make a hard link to the mysql.sock socket file. This is achieved by typing the following at the command prompt:

# mkdir -p /var/www/var/run/mysql
# ln -f /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock /var/www/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock
<version><version>If you want to make sure that mysql and apache server is running or not you can use nmap to see what port is listening. Hope you all enjoy ...</version></version>

Fully Recommended

How To - OpenBSD 4.0 + SQUID

Since there are so many squid how to in english, and this time I made it in Indonesian (my mother language), but you still can use these options and my squid.conf

Operating Sistem yang saya gunakan dalam tutorial ini adalah OpenBSD 4.0 dan jika anda menggunakan Linux atau UNIX lainnya maka anda dapat mengubah settingan berikut sesuai dengan OS anda. These are the steps how to create (on Windows) a OpenBSD 4.0 i386 ISO file. Even though you are using UNIX to make this ISO file, you can do it with the same way, as long as you got cdrecord:

Make directories, example OpenBSD/4.0/i386

Download all files from ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/i386 to the i386 directory. And do not forget to download these files src.tar.gz, sys.tar.gz, and ports.tar.gz.

You can use Magic Iso (not Free) on Windows machine.

Or, use the UNIX way use mkisofs. Then we make the iso file using mkisofs (http://cdrecord.berlios.de/old/private/cdrecord.html) :
# mkisofs -v -r -T -J \
-V "OpenBSD-4.0" \
-b 3.9/i386/cdrom40.fs \
-c boot.catalog \
-o /home/you/OpenBSD/OpenBSD-40.iso \
-x /home/you/OpenBSD/OpenBSD-40.iso \
/home/you/OpenBSD/

Just wait, and burn the ISO.

Thanks to www.corebsd.or.id
Fully Recommended

12th Mega Bazaar Komputer

This weekend really helped me out, howto judge on things. Yesterday, me and my friend Adi Ridwansyah
took long walk just to find out 'cheap' storage. He was looking for 1Gb USB Flash Disk, and me was for the 1Gb SD card for my PocketPC. That running out space from long time ago. We were looking at the 12th Mega Bazaar Komputer at JCC, from Hall A,B to the JCC's Main lobby.

It was so hot, cant feel the Air Conditioner. Because the place were crowded by people that want to search cheapest price for computer hardwares and other stuffs.So, no wonder we were urging to death just to find the 'right' price.

After 1 hour of pain we finally arrived to the right place. They were selling 1 Gb Flash Disk for Rp 90,000 ($10) and 1Gb SD card for Rp 100,000 ($11). Quiet cheap, right? My SD already has the fast read feature, so lucky me, eh ?Last time I asked a store at Mangga Dua it was
about Rp 150,000 ($16.5).

Adi bought a digi-cam for his friend, a BenQ. Kinda nice cam, but I think less feature than supposed to. He bought it about Rp 990,000 ($107), it has 5 MP which is not bad. But, I just dont feel it. I knew its not mine, but I think it was like burning your
money.

And looked like this Bazaar more to the Laptops, the area filled with so many Laptops from low to hi end spec. I think the organizer needs to improve the comfort it self. Cause, I didnt feel comfty.
Fully Recommended

Gigabyte Gsmart

Gigabyte known as the High End computer hardwares, but their latest invasion came from
different department. After set up my GPRS couple days ago, I was urging to find this “remote” thing.

Then GOOGLE is the right answer to search the “remote” thing for me. Here are the keywords that I was looking “putty windows mobile”, and google found something like this http://www.svpocketpc.com/reviews/pocketputty/PocketPuTTY.html . Well ok, that was a nice start, after reading and trying to download it, the site redirecting me to the http://www.pocketputty.net/download.html . Im so thrilled while in my mind I said , “Wow thats great, finally I can remote my server from anywhere and anytime”. I chose PocketPutty 0.1 for Windows Mobile 2003. The site give a zip extension, so you need to unzip it before using it. And copy the .exe to the Windows Mobile (which I'm using WM 2003 SE).

Tested it, and it run fine. But, I found some trouble with the connection thing. I tried to SSH-ing my web server, which needed internet connection. So I thought that Putty would ask me what connection I should use. Well, because I was so frustrated, so I connected my GPRS phone thru the web browser. And then I resumed to remote my server, after input my server's IP then I click OK. And my server ask me to receive RSA key, I tapped yes. And....voilla, “I'm in !!”. I got connected, after checking and viewing what was the problem with this thing. I realized that the type pad blocking my console screen, the screen didn't resize as the way it supposed to. Well, that's another bug to fix.

But, most of it I thank personally to all the Pocket Putty Team. They made it !!
Fully Recommended

Set Up GPRS On O2

How to set GPRS and MMS with your O2. Because now linux is widely spreading all over the world. From Zero to Hero, maybe those words are the perfect way to describe it. This penguin thing became a star at Hollywood.

Disney/Pixar, DreamWorks Animation, Sony, ILM and other movie production studios from Hollywood are using Linux to produce their movies.
I bet not many of you knew this (I didn't until today) but practically every blockbuster movie you see in theaters today was created with Linux. Hollywood prefers to use Linux instead of other operating systems, like Windows or Macintosh, for three simple reasons: it's better, faster and cheaper.

In Hollywood, Linux is considered the state-of-the-art, and 95% of the desktops and servers used at those big budget movie production studios, like Sony and Disney/Pixar, to create special visual effects and animation, are Linux based operating systems. Yes, I know that many of you will say now, "it's not true", "it can't be right" or "I heard they use Mac OS X software", but it is true and Linux is used to render those CGI Blockbusters you probably saw on theaters, faster than any other operating system.

The movie Scooby Doo, for example, was created at the Rhythm and Hues studio and the whole movie was rendered and touched up with the help of custom made software which ran on Linux systems. Other blockbuster movies like The Matrix, Titanic, Gladiator, Superman Returns, What Dreams May Come, Cats and Dogs, Shrek, The Perfect Storm, Prince of Egypt,
The Road to El Dorado, Antz, Chicken Run, Deep Blue Sea, Star Trek: Insurrection, Fantasia 2000, Men in Black, Hollow Man and many many more, were created with Linux software such as RAYZ, Maya or Shake. Now, don't think all the software used in movie production is free, because most of the applications cost somewhere between $8,000 and $15,000 or even more, but hey, it's Hollywood!

Those are the reasons I still using linux for my desktop and my servers. So will you keep your OS to linux or will you change it ?

For further informations >>> Click Here
Fully Recommended

Fedora Core 7

After a couple months Fedora Core 6 Released, now the Fedora Project Team planned the Fedora Core 7 and they published some of the upcoming changes for this release.

The biggest change will be the merger of "Core" and "Extras" repositories into one huge repository of thousands of packages. Also, Fedora Core 7 will come in three editions: Fedora Desktop (which is a collection of desktop-related packages like GNOME, X, Firefox, etc.), Fedora Server (which is a collection of server-related packages like LAMP stack, maybe JBoss, etc.) and Fedora KDE (which will contain only the K Desktop Environment packages). They are also planning an installable LiveCD release of FC7.

Other new features will include:

• Rock solid wireless networking support;
• Wireless firmware;
• Pungi will be used for tree building;
• Fast user switching;
• RandR 1.2;
• KVM virtualization support;
• Boot and shutdown speed-up;
• New init system;
• rpm and yum enhancements;
• libata will be used for PATA support;
• syslog to be replaced with syslog-ng;
• Improved firewire support;
• Real-time kernel;
• Tickless kernel support;
• Fix wakeups across the distribution;
• Encrypted file systems.

Let's have a look at the Fedora Core 7 preliminary schedule:

• Fedora Core 7 Test1: January 30.
• Fedora Core 7 Test2: February 27.
• Fedora Core 7 Test3: March 26.
• Fedora Core 7 Final Release: April 24.

Some part of me agree with the separation thing, some just resist with that. In my opinion we (Fedora Users) might losing the Powerful Desktop + Server. But also I want to feel how powerful the Fedora Server Edition. LG has PRADA to go along with this phone.I heard that the price will be somewhere between $400 and $500 and also that the handset will be launched at first in five select European countries, with a US launch planned later on. I love so much with the "Smart Phone" or "Pocket PC". Coz they are so smart and so mobile, like carrying extra brain. I know it costs us more, than the ordinary phone. But, it makes life easier for me. But every people have their own thoughts about cell phones.

All I need for my phone that it can help me a lot. With extra softwares to that phone we can have our own secretary or assistant, thats why it called PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). For the fast moving person it helps a lot, trust me for this one. We can arrange our expenses with Accounting software, we can keep up2date with little GPRS thing we also can keep sync'ing with our PC at home. And there are so many things you can do with a phone.

I used to use "Smart Phone", it uses SYMBIAN as its operating system (OS). I used it almost for 2.5 years, it was a great phone with MP3 player and many softwares. Then I changed it to use the Windows 2003 SE cell phone which operating in my XDA II MINI. Which is more greater then SYMBIAN that I used to have. Even the open source give their shot with the Linux Zaurus.

We can see now days the cell phone its so glamorous, with extra mega-pixels camera and MP3 player with GBs storage. Its so outrageous, with that kinda storage we can keep more than 1000 songs. But what for ? Are we gonna listen to all those songs ? I dont think so, it will be useless for me.But, maybe not for you. So its all up to you.
Fully Recommended

Champions League Without a Champion

Watching todays news about football not like the way I used to.
I used to have a great expectation about my team.
Now, they don't even play at Champions League.
They are struggling to get out from Serie B.
I got to wait for another year, to watch 'em play at Champions League.

This year the Brits (Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester Utd) are taking over the Champions League,
they are dominating the League. Italians team only participate, they show us nothing.
Poor defending by the Italian teams.
Even the French Teams, specially Lyon show us how to play football.
So how come the Italian football getting weaker ?
They just won the WC 2006.

I'm waiting for my team
C'mon JUVENTUS !!!!!!!
Fully Recommended

Forsake

Surrend my self, into your arms
Invoke for absolution
Shall i wait,
but the time gives no mercy
Resemblance of tortures in the deepest fire
Days in, days out

Lord of The Lord,
Hast Thou forsaken me ?

-mm
Fully Recommended
