Where is the time going? We can feel Fall in the air and sure have a lot to do before the snow flies. We have had a very good Summer but it has been hot and dry.

We were sure pleased with the turnout for our Show in July. Really thank everyone for coming. Congratulations to all the award winners, especially the BEST OF SHOW winners, ARLETTA SEERY (WOMEN) AND JOHN STOHLMANN (MEN). We will have the Show in Clayton again next year on the third weekend in July. A big thanks to John Baumchen and his wife, Angela, for a SUPERIOR JOB as Show Chairman.

Our next trip will be to Walsenburg, Colorado for their annual Show on September 17th and 18th. They always put on a good one and we all have a good time.

Then in a couple of weeks after Colorado, we will be heading to La Crosse, Kansas for the Symposium. That always turns out good and there is a lot of discussions about wire and tools. Can use all the input from fellow collectors to help improve the hobby. Also questions about the prices of wire and tools is appreciated. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Larry Sutton called the other day and said that the Smithsonian has a traveling display of barbed wire and will be on display in Canyon City, Colorado at the Territorial Prison Museum from September 4 thru October 23. Would like to see the display and thanks Larry for giving us a heads up.

Barbed Wire Pillows.

For those of you who didn’t attend, you missed one of the best shows ever.  It’s good, and bad, when there is no more room for standing displays.  Just ask John Stohlmann! The walls were lined with displays of barbed wire, fencing tools, planter wire, shorty wires, splices, stays etc., etc.   The 57 tables were laden with various ladies collections, merchandise for sale, and of course, wires for sale or trade.

The attendees were from California, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico and England.  Yes, I said England.  Jacky & Mike Smith were intrigued with their first barbed wire show and were disappointed the weekend flew by so quickly.  What a joy it was to visit with them.  We wish they could attend more shows in the good old USA.  Jacky & Mike, you are welcome back any time.

The meals were all catered by a local business called Mary’s.  She and her crew served delicious, and more than adequate, lunches and dinners.  The banquet dinner of brisket and all the trimmings, was enjoyed by 65 diners.  Award certificates were handed out by John Baumchen and Jerry Boxberger.  The ‘ugly award’  was given to Jerry Thornton of Baytown, TX and presented by last year’s winner, Ralph Seery.

The auction was held Saturday afternoon with Auctioneer Jerry Boxberger begging for bids.  Thanks to all who donated, and purchased, the items. We certainly do appreciate your support.

On behalf of the club, thanks so much for coming.  You all help to make the show a success every year and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year in Clayton.

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.’Good  morning,’ said the young man. ‘If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners.

‘Go away!’ said the old lady. ‘I’m broke and haven’t got any money!’ and she proceeded to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed  it wide open. ‘Don’t be too hasty!’ he said.  ‘Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.’

And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet.

‘Now, if this  vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.’

The old lady stepped back and said, ‘Well let me get you  a fork, ’cause they cut off my electricity this morning.’
