Playing sound / music on Windows PCs in Firefox & Internet Explorer ( IE )

I recently created an animation out of our logo at our main page http://www.designavs.com where the hummingbird's wings flap. I have fed hummingbirds here in Oregon for three years now through the winters and love their sound so included wing and chirping sounds from a feeder.

With a .mp3 file wanted to share it on our main page and wrote some HTML code to do so in a way that is intended to support 90% of computers (in the future will go for more but for that will have to use Java).

The first time I went to our website in Internet Explorer ( IE version 7.0.5730.11) I had to install the windows media player plug in to get it to work.

When I played it the first time in Firefox it played fine but did not have any sound controls to stop, start, rewind, etc. In the place of where the controls should be it said "no video". I discovered this was a known error with the VLC plugin for Firefox so disabled it in Firefox with a Tools > Add-ons then scrolled down to "VLC Multimedia Plugin" and disabled it. When I closed and opened Firefox again and went to designavs.com it said I needed a plug-in and when I clicked on it to find something suitable I got an error that no plugin was found. So doing a search I found there is a Firefox Windows Media Player plug in available from Microsoft. I downloaded it and saved it to my computer. Ran the install, closed Firefox, then restarted and it all worked. This linked helped me:

Saw some examples of YouTube HD tonight available online on their website... It is a new feature test available only for some videos. The normal YouTube resolution (native window size) is 320 x 240 pixels and the new YouTube HD resolution is 448 x 336 (Note: our software can do 1280 x 624 or more in a similar file size to the YouTube new videos being tested).

My feedback is below to the person who clearly knows YouTube HD's current plans for making this available as well as the YouTube HD test strategies:

We find your blog interesting reading. The better quality of the new HD YouTube is welcome in a world where 20% of the HTTP traffic is said to be YouTube videos.

Want to let you know better than the ‘new’ YouTube HD videos online can be watched by clicking on the upper right menu on our website, designavs.com. To see a computer 1080p example on your machine right now click on ‘Spiderman 3′.

The 1080p full screen video there is native 1280 x 624 pixels optimized to play full screen on EXISTING normal notebook computers WITHOUT upgrades including Linux at wi-fi wireless speed and looks great (ten times smaller than the original). 480p is also shown (848 x 436 px) and is sixteen times smaller built for those of us who have old clunkers around to fill up the screen. At similar to the file sizes YouTube uses now, as viewed by checking our temporary files, can do better.

Without our solution original quality HD video at normal connection speeds to watch without delay is not possible. Downloading or waiting for a buffer to fill is a pain and part of why YouTube is so popular today.

Please notice our sound is also way better than YouTube or any others. Current video compression solutions often muffle sound as well as makes it not synchronized to movement /action. Our results not only look the best they sound the best as you will hear when you turn up the speakers if you visit our site.

If anyone knows the decision makers at YouTube have them get in touch with me as can help them after development for seven years and filing our patents. Can enable anyone who wants to distribute HD video online with the best quality in the smallest file sizes. There are millions of existing computers and mobile devices.

Unfortunately, many of the newly touted HD ’solutions’ require new hardware and/or software and often have operating system limitations (examples: Intel, TI, Adobe, Microsoft, …). The big hidden problem is the videos for the new HD ideas of today will only play on a new idea creator’s configuration. What about those of us who want HD on existing machines and ‘old clunkers’? What if someone want to distribute internet advertising to maximize their audience? Smaller files with great look/sound play better today and in the future to make money through bandwidth and storage improvements.

Thank you YouTube for the upgrade to quality in a way it runs on existing machines. Hope to talk about ways of doing things even better.

Have the best looking 3GP video on Mobile Devices, Cell Phones, PCs, Apple, and Linux

We can put the best looking video on cell phones like the Apply iPhone and one mobile devices such as the Apply iPod. Our video compression transcoding solution supports 3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones.

3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) media container format, designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones. It stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+ or AAC-LC. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate. There are two different standards for this format:

3GPP (for GSM-based Phones, may have filename extension .3gp)
3GPP2 (for CDMA-based Phones, may have filename extension .3g2)

Both are based on MPEG-4 and H.263 video, and AAC or AMR audio.

When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with programs such as VLC media player, RealPlayer, QuickTime and Media Player Classic.

Hardware support

Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format.
Some newer phones without 3G capabilities may also playback and record in this format.
In iMovie '08, a movie exported using the "Tiny" setting is saved as a .3gp file and can be played on a Mac, an iPhone, an iPod touch or using Apple's .Mac Web Gallery service.

Results After Video Compression:

This video we compressed 12x into a 14.5 Mb file, with a bit rate of 800k bps, at 29.97 fps - looks fairly good.

This video is one we compressed 23x into a 7.7 Mb file, with a bit rate of 400k bps, at 29.97 fps - looks a bit fuzzy while is still way better than YouTube

Some of us need reading glasses to see the difference, but with them on it is clear. We are better than all others with the same media clip at the same file size, same bit rate, and have a superior reduced frame rate. When comparing videos look at the sharp edges, fast moving objects, and pause once in a while at fast moving times to see still frames. A trick of the filmmakers is to not have the background change much so they can look the best possible in digital video. Note we often use a higher frame rate than this original, 30 frames per second (fps), as is better for movement of subjects such as in an action film, news, or sports media.
