A TSA screener has lifted to lid to reveal how the federal agency’s $1 billion dollar plus fleet of body scanners is completely useless in that the machines routinely fail to pick up prohibited items such as knives, guns and powder designed to resemble explosive material.

In an interview conducted by Jon Corbett, the engineer who recently exposed how the scanners could be fooled by simply securing an object inside an external pocket sewn on to an item of clothing, “Jennifer,” a TSA screener, also reveals how the federal agency forced people without the necessary training to operate the scanners.
When Jennifer wrote to her Congressman complaining about the problems, the TSA retaliated by removing her from screening duties and began the process to dismiss her altogether.
In the transcript below, Jennifer explains how the body scanners routinely fail to pick up prohibited items, meaning they are nothing less than a complete waste of money and a prime example of “security theater”.

Today when a bank is robbed digitally, virtually, although it is very real for the victims, the money is actually gone; the pool of suspects is limited to the number of people on the face of the earth that have a laptop and an internet connection, because anybody with an internet connection potentially can attack any other computer that's tied to the network. So the barrier of entry is relatively low.

I think that going forward, this is not going away. I mean, we are not backing away from the internet. We are not going to change technology.

As technology increases, this challenge becomes greater so when I started the threat was really to networks--mostly corporate networks--but since that time we moved into laptops and wireless laptops and then more recently into personal devices, whether it be smart phones, blackberries -- those sorts are devices that allow access to the network anytime, everywhere. The number of children with autism in the United States continues to rise, according to a new report released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The latest data estimate that 1 in 88 American children has some form of autism spectrum disorder. That's a 78% increase compared to a decade ago, according to the report.

Since 2000, the CDC has based its autism estimates on surveillance reports from its Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network. Every two years, researchers count how many 8-year-olds have autism in about a dozen communities across the nation. (The number of sites ranges from six to 14 over the years, depending on the available funding in a given year.)

In 2000 and 2002, the autism estimate was about 1 in 150 children. Two years later 1 in 125 8-year-olds had autism. In 2006, the number was 1 in 110, and the newest data -- from 2008 -- suggests 1 in 88 children have autism.

CHAIRMAN BERNANKE: Well-- you know, I'm talk-- I'm tackling-- a big topic which is the role of the Fed in the financial crisis. And it was a good opportunity just to think through the-- what happened in the last few years. And the theme of the lectures is that, you know, you can make sense of it all if you look to history. I-- I was a student of the Great Depression as an academic and I think some of the lessons-- the mistakes that were made-- during the Great Depression are very helpful in thinking about our response to the-- the recent crisis. And I think we avoided some of the most important mistakes.

For a third night in a row, police are receiving calls from residents who are reporting the mysterious booming and shaking in Clintonville, but the source remains a mystery for residents and experts alike.

There have been fewer reports Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but a boom at 5:00 a.m. triggered more than two dozen calls to police. Some of the callers told dispatchers they had felt smaller vibrations overnight but hadn't reported them. Other booms were reported at 8:00 p.m., 9:30 p.m., and 3:00 a.m.

"This morning I got up at 5 o'clock and there was a big boom, and the window on my door shook. Then I heard it between 5 and 5:30 quite a few times," resident Joel Ratliffe said.

City officials say they received around 150 reports about the noises from underground shaking their houses Sunday night into Monday morning in the northeast corner of town. The next night, they received another 100 calls starting around 8 P.M.

For residents, it's a situation that's very unsettling.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has announced a ban on the feeding of large numbers of homeless and hungry people at sites on and near the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Mayor Nutter is imposing the ban on all outdoor feedings of large numbers of people on city parkland, including Love Park and the Ben Franklin Parkway, where it is not uncommon for outreach groups to offer free food.

Nutter says the feedings lack both sanitary conditions and dignity.

“Providing to those who are hungry must not be about opening the car trunk, handing out a bunch of sandwiches, and then driving off into the dark and rainy night,” Nutter said.

At the moment of his arrest outside of Sudan’s embassy in Washington, D.C., Oscar-winning actor George Clooney told The Daily Caller that he did not discuss the planned protest during his Thursday meeting with President Obama, and said that he was most “concerned” about his father who was also in handcuffs.

TheDC asked Clooney, the co-founder of the Satellite Sentinel Project, if he accomplished what he had hoped for at the protest.

“We’ll find out, won’t we? Sorry, officer. It’s a long process, so we’ll see,” said Clooney, in handcuffs.

“I’m concerned with my father, making sure he’s okay right now, you know. He’s 78 years old and never been arrested before.”

TheDC also asked if he talked about the protest on the property of the Embassy of Sudan with Obama. Clooney responded, “No, no, this was something completely different.”

AMBASSADOR MITCHELL: Thank you. Good to see you all. I think I've met some of you in my past times in country. This is my fourth of five days here, and I've had an intensive series of discussions over the last few days in Nay Pyi Taw and here in Rangoon. I am going to Mandalay tonight and tomorrow for further conversations.

Let me say just a few comments or things to a few individuals or folks, first to the Embassy here. Since the Secretary of State’s visit in December, there has been an avalanche of visits internationally, particularly from the United States. Many people have been eager to see or experience themselves the developments in this country. It has put an enormous burden on the folks here; they are not equipped for that kind of avalanche of people. But for Chargé Michael Thurston, DCM Eleanor Nagy, and Adrienne over here, among many others who have supported my visits, supported the many visits, I really wanted to say a note of thanks to all of them for their tremendous hard work and dedication over many, many weeks. In fact, it has not let up. And hopefully they get a little bit of time off for Thingyan in the next month.
