My vote definitely goes to the adorable and techie --- Batang Yagit. I first heard of him on Twitter and from then on, I've been checking on his blog every now and then. Winston Almendras, the humble kid behind this blog, deserves to win the Philippine Blog Awards Bloggers’ Choice Award because his blog is very interesting and is an easy read. Oh yeah, he's from Davao, so who else should I vote for? :)

MY Table

Yesterday, I posted a short blog about finally getting a table for my laptop. It was big deal for me since I used to work on the kitchen sink, floor, staircase, or bed prior to getting that table. Today, as I was working on the new table, checking mails and whatnot, the router suddenly decided to act up and my connection was intermittent for almost half an hour. Bugged and frustrated as I can't access my BPI account online also, I decided to do something to keep me from boredom. I was looking around the place and, there waiting for me, was a yet-to-be assembled table!

Because of excitement, I was able to drag the (at least)50-kilo box to the center of the living room.

I opened the box and this was what greeted me.

There were like 15 wooden parts, some metal thingies for the drawers, a pack of screws and other small parts, and an instruction sheet (that seemed Arabic or Gaelic at first glance LOL).

I'm really poor with instructions. Even with the gadgets I buy, what I do is explore first before reading the manual. I did the same thing with the table. I looked at the instruction sheet for a couple minutes then, off to work I went. I spent the first hour familiarizing myself with the parts. I tried to organize the parts. The same ones went together, the screws of the same size were grouped together, etc. Seeing that I can't start right away with the base, I went ahead and assembled the 3 drawers.

Yes, that's me. Still in jammies at around 2PM.

Almost 2 hours passed before I finally finished the 3 drawers and the side support.

And after another hour, I finished the base.

The top part of the table took some time to attach as one part wasn't included in the not-so-very-instructional sheet. Plus, I also made a booboo with one of the drawers. I attached the roller of the drawer with the wheels in front rather than having them at the rear. After all unscrewing and screwing back, and after more than 5 hours of sweat and patience, here it is... The best table in the whole wide world! LOL

Indeed, nothing beats the feeling of satisfaction of knowing that your effort has paid off. The table I assembled is "all mine", and the one I'm using now, which was assembled by the delivery guy, will be used for another purpose. Today, I have once again proven that boredom makes me productive. Yay!

For the next Saturdays, I believe the gang will be meeting up to test what we have planned to include in our menu. First stop is Jude's place for his burgers.

I brought the buns, Chunks brought the lettuce and white onions, Jim brought beer and Jude made the patties and chili con carne.

Fast forward...

After an hour or so of preparation, this is what we had:

(The burger and the wayward tomato. Pardon the presentation. LOL)

***5" bun, chili con carne, salsa, lettuce, 3/4" beef patty, onions, mustard, catsup, mayo, cheese***

We'll be serving this with fries/potato chips and drinks.

No more calloused soles and toes from walking miles in those "fashionista" shoes.

The possibility of getting hallux valgus is close to null.

I can hop off the jeepney without worrying of twisting my ankle (again).

The boots make a good weapon. Shin-kicker this is!

The floral and butterfly prints on the boots makes it look tough but chic.

Goes well with plain, white baby tees and jeans.

I have made a big decision 2 weeks ago that entailed a big change in my daily routine.

For weeks now, this is how I spend my 24 hours:
Awake/Online/Work - 18 hours
Sleep (at home) - 2.5 hours
Travel - 1.5 hours
Nap (at work) - 1 hour
Bath, plus other personal effects - 1 hour

Hush, hush.
I know this is suicide.
But I am ending this soon.
All I need is timing and that person who can take my other post.
If you're looking for a full-time job, send me a mail.
I'll be more than glad to send you the details.

Better than 500 mg of diazepam.

HAPPINESS as defined by ninjawords.com:

(n) : joy, the emotion of being happy;

synonyms: felicity, blessedness, bliss

Simple or cheap things make me happy. Among these things are the rain, ginanggang (grilled unripe banana brushed with margarine and then sprinkled with sugar), and night outs with my friends.

There are people though who claim to have not found or experienced true happiness. For a person like me who's easy to please (you dare not contradict), I find this pretty pathetic. Believe me, finding happiness is not as hard as looking for that winning gold chip in Surf pouches and bars (Eeek! what a rueful metaphor).

Today, I got a forwarded email on How To Be Happy. 30 sentences, 30 tips. I think 30 is too long a list to post and comment on, so I just chose my top 15 tips.

This one goes out to Anne Tolentino. She has told me for the nth time that she never experienced real happiness in her whole 23 years of existence. Well Anne, I hope this helps you.

1. LEARN TO SAY THANK YOU. Thank those who have done something good to you. Send them a text message, an email, an instant message, a call (if your mobile is loaded :p) or just whisper 'thank you' .

2. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH OTHERS WHO ARE HAPPY. When you are with people who are happy, you kind of absorb their aura and have a happy disposition as well, but if you are around angry, or melancholic people, chances are, you become like them.

3. CONNECT WITH OTHERS. Go out with friends. But then, Check #1. Again, be careful about who you hang out with. Spend time with people who you know will cheer you up. Do not hang out with people who are gloomy, or you'll end up drinking 5 buckets of beer, wasted, wallowing in self pity and feeling more unhappy.

4. SAVOR LIFE. Try to do things slowly. Focus on one goal at a time. Resolve to have less to do each day. Do things with ease and mindfulness. Enjoy your lunch break, your cup of coffee, your morning walks and conversations.

5. TREAT YOURSLF. Give yourself little treats. An 8-hour sleep, a large mug of latte (from Spro--shameless plug), a foot spa, a bag of Doritos, or a tub of vanilla ice cream.

6. THIS SHALL PASS. When bad things happen, and you're having trouble accepting it, think to yourself the same thing the ancients did: "This, too, shall pass." And you'll survive.

7. SHARE. Practice the art of sharing. It might be a chocolate cookie, some amount of money, your talent, or maybe your time.

8. LOOK AT YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS. Look at what you have done instead of what you haven't done. Your achievements can boost your self-esteem and will make you feel good about yourself.

9. LAUGH. Hang out with your crazy friends, watch dumb videos on Youtube, go to comedycentral.com, or watch "Tagalized" Doraemon(this works for me). Laugh your head off!

10. HAVE A GOAL. Too many goals will lead to ineffectiveness. Choose one goal and really focus on it then work to accomplish it. Goals lead to happiness, if you make progress on them.

11. DO LITTLE ACTS OF KINDNESS. Helping your friend finish her baby back ribs meal is one example. tee hee

12. EXERCISE. Just a short walk or jog could lift your spirits and reduce stress. Nothing difficult. Just get outside and move.

13. LEARN SOMETHING NEW. It's strange how many of us fear to try new things and/or admit that we do not know something. Learning new skills or new information is one of the most fun things there is to do. Hang out with geeks(like what I do) and you're sure to learn something new everyday.

14. NATURE WATCH. Watch the sunrise or sunset. Listen to the the rain. Watch the stars, rainbows and clouds. Watch the flowers. Watch animals. Watch insects. Watch people (in my case, I ogle).

15. LAUGH SOME MORE. When you are in the middle of a bad situation, look around you, realize the absurdity of the situation, and just laugh. In a year, no one will care. In two years, you'll be laughing at this anyway. So laugh now, and be happy now.

I accidentally scratched my cornea while removing my contact lens, but the injury was not evident until I woke up the next day. It started with a feeling of having a dry eye. Minimal pain followed after some blinking and as the day progressed, the pain became unbearable. Corneal abrasion causes major discomfort because underneath the cornea are a number of nerve endings that are very sensitive even to the slightest disruption of the corneal surface. For 3 days, my left eye was covered with an eye patch to avoid blinking (blinking with a scratched cornea feels like having a rough pebble in your eye--- OUCH!), my vision was a little blurry because of excessive tearing and I was also a little photophobic.

I am aware that there are injuries caused by wearing contact lenses, but you can't blame me for "worshiping" the silicon hydrogel wonder. I started wearing eyeglasses at the age of 1 year 3 months (that was even before I could count from 1 to 5). It was only when I was 22 when my ophthalmologist allowed me to use contact lens, and boy that was ecstatic happiness I felt. I was comfortable with my O2 Optix lenses and I didn't mind spending Php1800 every 3 months (3 pairs/3 months) as I am still on a high from my new "freedom". O2 Optix is great, but I abused it by wearing the lens for 15 hours up to more than 24 hours straight. My bad.

Now, I have to choice but to go back to wearing specs again ~~until my cornea is well healed~~. Not exactly the look I want, but hey, looking at the brighter side, I get to save [1800x4 =] Php7,200.00 a year. Hmmm... Not that bad after all...
