Cookie Diet!

Before raising any hope, let me clarify what I will say, in the expense of stealing my own thunder. Can someone lose weight by mainly eating cookies? Yes… Is this article about to promote it? Absolutely not!

People’s willingness to lose weight without putting the necessary effort helps fad diets popping up like mushrooms. People keep on trying to win the big prize in the lottery of finding the easiest diet that works, the big prize being the weight loss. And some do. But the rest of the story is mostly not as glorifying. 1 in 3 Lottery Winners Broke Within 5 Years. It is no different in the game of weight loss. I say, in weight management what’s more important than the weight itself is the trend. If you can’t manage your weight when you have extra pounds, the chances are you won’t be able to manage it when you lose them.

{youtube}dFKxgU1ZRpE{/youtube}

Here is a part from Robin Willam’s HBO Show. I kinda like his idea!

There are too many types of diets circulating around that sound too good to be true. And I think it is correct to assume that if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

The essence of vitamins for our health is just too obvious even to mention (but I will mention it anyways). But does this mean that the more is merrier? Absolutely not. Vitamins, especially fat soluble ones (A, D, E and K) are stored in liver and excessive amounts are toxic!. The chart below pretty much says it all.

If you are shopping for vitamin supplements, here are a few things to keep in perspective.

· Vitamin deficiency is NOT common in West.

· Small amounts of fat soluble vitamins are required to keep good health. And this can be achieved with a good diet.

· Excessive (I would say mega-doses) of fat soluble vitamins are toxic.

These are the first lines of Randy Pausch's last book, "The Last Lecture". He recently passed away. If you haven't heard about him or his "Last Lecture", I highly recommend that you google him. He was a Computer Science Professor at Carnegie Mellon and died of pancreatic cancer. His "Last Lecture" is about achieving your childhood dreams. As sad as his story is, his video or his book (which I also recommend reading even if you saw his video) is phenomenal and it has nothing to do with his terminal illness or how he coped with it.

Although I want to keep writing about how startled I am with his attitude towards his situation or why I think his book is one of the best inspirational book I have ever read, this post is not about that. I want to have your attention on one thing and one thing only. It is about how he exercised;

First, one of the emphasis of the book is on seizing the moment as your time might be far less than you expect it to be. His situation sets a great example for this. He had a very limited time and he wanted to secure his family for after him and make sure he spent enough time with his three kids and his wife. This is, of course, is not very surprising, but what surprised me was the section where he said, he dictated his book during his bike ride around his neighborhood to get exercise that, again he claimed, is crucial for his health. He also said he dictated his book in fifty three rides. I couldn't help asking myself if I would keep on exercising if I knew I had a few months.

Second, in the beginning of his lecture, he says '.... I'm in better shape than most of the attendees here,,, " and starts doing push ups. For me, this sends a very powerful message. This guy obviously set his priorities straight. Being healthy or working for being healthy is not depended on other factors. He is choosing to be healthy and didn't seem to question it.

One more time, I am convinced that leaving a healthy life is not something you have to do for the right reasons. It is something you choose to do for the right reasons. It is a way of life, not a series of recurring tasks. If we can see exercising this way, we will be seizing the moment as we do it. Rest in peace Randy and my deepest condolences to his loved ones.

As I was having our traditional Friday lunch with eight other colleges of mine, I found myself a little bit regretful and partly upset with the selection of the not so healthy restaurant, because I knew that lunch would cost me the dinner I am not having tonight. And the BBQ I am going on Saturday will be another chess game but I’m ready for it.

I am a firm believer that steel of abs require steel of minds. One must have a great deal of determination and do everything of his own volition as the directives of the common social life can be in conflict with such a quest. Yes, I am talking about all those company all you can eat buffet dinners, potluck parties, dates and bar hoppings. If the idea of isolating yourself from the society is not igniting your spark (hopefully not), you have to learn how to find your way through these activities without damaging your diet. Here are a number of very good, tested and approved, tips for you to keep your diet during any social activities. I callthe list ‘Social butterfly Diet’

Bodyweight Circuit Training Workouts

Circuit Training is getting more and more popular for all the right reasons. By the way of an introduction, circuit training is a type of interval training that combines cardiovascular training and strength training together. It is a great way to start and get familiar with exercising and as you will see from the video it doesn't require any equipments.

Here is a very instructive video that shows quite a number of exercises from which you can tailor a routine for yourself. Enjoy!

{youtube}oQR4p9HSAmA{/youtube}

1 Motivation Does Not Exist: When it comes to work out, I find motivation highly overrated and mostly confused with determination. Determination faces the challenges head on in though times, not motivation. Remember you do not need motivation to brush your teeth, you are just well aware of the consequences if you don’t. There is no need to be motivated for performing a daily activity.

2 Spice it Up: Repeating the same exercise routine for a long time, can get a little boring. Especially for strength training and weight lifting, you can keep the order of the muscle groups you are focusing while changing the exercise attacking these muscle groups. To give you an example, when I go to gym, I train triceps and chest in one session and biceps and shoulder in the second. Three exercises for each muscle group. If I am bored, I won’t start training biceps and triceps together, but I will change my triceps exercises. I can switch from dumbbells to machines. On another note, same goes for your diet, as healthy as it is eating the same salad everyday is not only torturous but also may not be healthy, spice it up, learn new healthy recipes, internet is just a click away.

3 Invest In It: Invest in your weight loss, you are worth it Invest in new gym shoes, or other running gears, invest in that food scale you really want, the fresh produce as oppose to canned food. If you are new to the gym phenomena and like it, seek professional help. Trainers are not (most of the time) provided to get more money out of you by the gyms. If you do not know how to start this process, check out ‘Start Exercise The Right Way - 3 Golden Rules' at http://www.fitnessspotlight.net.

	Start reading labels: Start making a habit of reading the label of whatever you are buying or even considering buying in the store. Focus on the calories as well as the fiber and fat levels (in grams). A good/healthy food should be low in calories while containing at least 1 preferably 2 - 4 grams of fiber. And obviously it should be low in fat grams. While low is a relative term, 8 grams or under in serving is ok but I personally try not to exceed 6 grams.

	Make a ‘Before and After’ Comparison: In order to be able to successfully track your progress, you need a starting point, a baseline if you will, to compare your current state against on regular basis. That’s way you need to know your start condition. Before and after photos are not just for midnight TV commercials. I recommend taking pictures, measuring of various parts of your body, your weight and your body's fat percentage. Taking more than one measure can be extremely helpful as sometimes, no matter how hard you stick to the plan, you won’t see a move on the scale. But although you weigh the same, you might shrink on the waist. It is always beneficial to have more than one way of measuring your progress.

	Set Goals: Setting goals might be too much of a pressure on start, but they will help you create a roadmap for the long run. Your goals should be specific, measurable and must have a timeline. Your goal can be the amount of exercise , calorie intake or target weight for a week.
