I started this blog trying to do what I could to help prevent Jerry Brown from getting elected governor in November. The voters made their decision and now that the election is over, this blog is going inactive. A big Thank You to all of you who read the blog and emailed... and a big thanks to everyone -- all 471 -- who followed me on Twitter.

California borrows $40 million a day from federal government to pay Unemployment Insurance

California is headed toward insolvency, and with the state borrowing big bucks to send out unemployment checks, the state's politicians have no idea how to create private sector jobs. Jim Hoft posted this info from AP:

With one in every eight workers unemployed and empty state coffers, California is borrowing billions of dollars from the federal government to pay unemployment insurance.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the state owes $8.6 billion already, and will have to come up with a $362-million payment to Washington by the end of next September.

The continued borrowing means federal unemployment insurance taxes are going to increase, upping the annual payroll costs $21 a year per worker.

California tops the list of 32 states that have borrowed a total of $41 billion to pay claims.

This Michael Ramirez cartoon expresses how a lot of us feel about the election of Jerry Brown as governor.

Jerry Brown has spent 40 years in politics so he has no idea how to create a private sector job. Can't understand why voters have put big-spending Dems in charge of the state senate, the state assembly, and the governorship. Worse, all elected Dems in this state owe their careers to the public sector unions, so they have zero motivation to cut spending or cut pension benefits as needed.

Last night's election results are the nightmare scenario for California taxpayers.

The state has a Democrat governor, a Democrat state senate, and a Democrat assembly. Almost without exception the Dem politicians were propelled to victory by public employee unions. Compounding the scenario is Prop 25 passed, so the Dems only need a simple majority to pass the budget.

It looks bleak for the ever-dwindling number of Californians who pay taxes to support the bloated system controlled by the Democrats.

Coverage of the California governor's race by the mainstream media has been abysmal.

Latest example: Associated Press reporter Judy Lin was apparently captivated by a sophomoric street theater protest performed by the ultra-left wing California Nurses Association. Here is video of the idiotic protest that captured her attention:

The guy in the white shirt and blue tie appears to be Sacramento Bee reporter Jack Chang. It looks like he starts to giggle at about 3 seconds. Below is a screen grab of the man who appears to be Jack Chang.

The state is $19 billion in debt and faces serious issues, but the low-grade reporters working for mainstream news media don't rise to the challenge.

Update #2: Meg Whitman told reporters in Sacramento "our internal polls look great." Believe me, the Jerry Brown campaign is sweating bullets today. The surge of volunteers at the Whitman rallies Saturday, the number of people walking precincts, the volume of people phone banking tells me something amazing is about to happen.

Via @maya6buki, volunteers were packed into the Santa Clarita HQ to make calls for Whitman on Thursday.

On Twitter I've been posting photos from Whitman volunteers centers around the state showing a lot of volunteers making calls and walking precincts. This is evidence of enthusiasm that I don't see on the Brown side.

Running against Dan Lungren in California's 3rd district, Ami Bera has a different view of ObamaCare than most Americans. Bera says he likes the unpopular health care law the Dems rammed through congress, and says his only regret is the bill doesn't go far enough.

I'm sure most voters in the 3rd district are skeptical that government will improve health care delivery. American Crossroads is running this excellent ad.

Sometimes Moonbeam can't stay on his talking points and his true self leaks out.

In a TV interview he was asked about helping Hollywood's movie industry. Brown mentions the $19 billion deficit and fiscal austerity, then blurts out his real inner thoughts: '"If we can find some more money, we can dish it out!"

But Jerry has been in government for 40 years. He has no clue that the business environment - taxes, regulations - is what drives companies out of California.

The picture above, taken at the Jerry Brown/Gavin Newsom rally at SJSU Sunday, tells you everything you need to know about Bill Clinton's campaign rallies over the weekend with Jerry Brown.

Embarrassed about supposedly mean things he said about Bill Clinton -- that Clinton lied about his relationship about Monica Lewinsky -- early in the summer, Moonbeam was forced to apologize. Not because Brown said anything inaccurate, but because Clinton is, for reasons that escape me, popular among Democrats in California.

Clinton accepted the apology and agreed to campaign with Brown and Newsom this past weekend.

The two men embraced in front of the cameras in an awkward hug at San Jose State University. The embrace is more embarrassing for Brown because it highlights his weakened state among California Democrats. For Republicans, Brown's embrace of Clinton is a motive to pull the lever for Meg Whitman.

Glad to see Whitman is taking the side of the taxpayers.

At a campaign stop in Redding, Whitman pointed out her differences with Moonbeam when it comes to priority for admission to taxpayer-funded colleges.

She chastised Democratic rival Jerry Brown for suggesting at a recent rally that California is still wealthy enough to allow undocumented workers and their children to attend state universities if they qualify.

“Either (Brown) doesn’t recognize we’re in a budget crisis or he’s pandering for votes,” Whitman said, adding she’d give admission priority at public universities to taxpayers.

As he made clear at his speech at UCLA, Jerry Brown's top priority is undocumented workers and their children.

Brown's plan to enroll undocumented workers in state universities shows Brown really doesn't care that the state has a $19 billion deficit. Voters are finally seeing the real Jerry Brown, and taxpayers can only hope Brown's UCLA statement will sink his election hopes.

Jerry Brown told thousands of cheering college students at UCLA he wants students at UCLA whether they're illegal immigrants or not.

That is not going to go over well with California taxpayers who subsidize a UCLA education at a cost of who knows how many millions a year.

Update: AP reporter Juliet Williams was there and caught Brown's quote:

Brown also sought to appeal to the young crowd in a brief speech...

"We have enough wealth to continue to have a great university and get every kid in this school that can qualify. And when I say every young man and young woman, I mean everyone, whether they're documented or not: if they went to school, they ought to be here," Brown said to loud cheers.

Update #2: Just checked the LA Times piece on Brown and Clinton at UCLA; nothing in the report on Brown's comments about allowing illegal immigrants into UCLA. (One of the LA Tmes reporters was Jerry Brown booster Seema Mehta.) Have not been able to find any mentions in the reports by CNN or any other outlets, either.

This is grotesquely unfair to Californians who are here legally and pay taxes to keep the UC system going. Can the Whitman campaign capitalize on Brown's recklessness?
