The Scene
Ruby’s graffiti-strewn ceiling, copper-topped bar, saloon mirrors and humble jumble bar art make for down home decor, but the true soul of this weathered juke joint comes from its patrons: workaday men and women who come to boogie, hoot and holler.

The Draw
Weekdays, this 60-plus-year-old building at the edge of Old Mandeville serves as a watering hole for local Joes. But when music takes center stage (Thursday-Saturday), Ruby’s really simmers. Floorboards sag beneath twirling dancers ands moke envelops the audience. An outside patio provides a great escape from the crowd or a perfect place to recharge between sets. Inside, the high-energy action goes ’til 2am, so ration your dance power.

Snug Harbor is a restaurant, bar, and music club featuring world class jazz music every night of the week. Please note that Snug Harbor is not a dinner theater; the dining room is separate from the music club. All ages are welcome, including quiet children (please use good judgment in this arena). All sorts of funky roots music can be heard here on a nightly basis. At least two bands perform each night – the first starting around 6 p.m. and the second about 9:30 p.m. Music ranging from blues to trad jazz to Latin and various permutations make the Cat a current favorite hang for many on the Frenchmen Street scene.

The Steak Knife Restaurant was established on December 27, 1971. The menu was that of a true classic steak house. Serving prime beef, The Steak Knife’s menu then expanded to include select seafood, veal, lamb, pork and chicken. The Steak Knife has banquet rooms available and it’s cocktail lounge has live Jazz on weekends.

I guess one of the best marketing devices for the major parade or festival market is a very large sign which someone waves in the middle of the street to announce the goods or service one provides you. The SteakPit restaurant transforms itself every night into the home of the “Huge Ass Beer”. I certified their claim, and in fact was served one of their huge ass beers, which was very satisfying.

Located in the 100 block of world-famous Bourbon St at the corner of Bourbon & Iberville in the historic French Quarter. Howl is located in the Storyville building next to the Storyville Jazz Parlor.

A rock ‘n’ roll, dueling pianos, sing-along bar. Featuring the ”World’s Most Dangerous Waitstaff,” and live, interactive entertainment seven nights a week.
