Teen Suicide Tragedy Heartbreak Hits Again

Less than two months ago the story of Erin Gallagher a school girl from Donegal who tragically killed herself due to online bulling rocked Ireland and put the suicide epidemic in this country to the forefront of the social issues currently facing us. Well the story turns more heartbreaking as her sister Shannon also took he own life aged just 15. The girls mother Lorraine was understandably devastated and shocked describing her two daughters as the light of her life.

Shannon was found in her foster home in Castlefin which she was placed just days before. The school where both girls attended Finn Valley in Stranolar has offered counselling to pupils and professional support. The president of the Irish Association of Suicidology also urged responsible reporting from the media to help prevent what some refer to as “copycat” suicides. Her parents asked for time to grieve before her Funeral.

This tragic case needs to put into place proper help for everybody especially young students who feel isolated and need help with there problems. This government needs to lead the way and show that depression is not a taboo subject and talking openly about your problems helps. I really feel for her family and hope they can get through this tough time

Never complain about been stuck in heavy traffic when in Russia an epic traffic jam leaving tens of thousands of cars and trucks stranded for day on a motorway northwest of Moscow. The 200km traffic queue on motorway 10 which links Moscow to Russia's second largest city St Petersburg was estimated by the local media reports. Reports of drivers completing just 1km in twenty four hours. The cause of the gridlock was blamed on heavy snow which struck the region.

With pressure put on PM Mr Medvedev in response field kitchens have been set up along 200km stretch, but many drivers say they are running out of petrol they need to keep the engines running to provide heat during the sub-zero temperatures. The wait is leading to discontent with driver helping one another but the authorities havent provided petrol or water. The traffic jam on Sunday evening was reported to be 55km and falling according to a local pollice officer.

Russian authorities have been criticised for there sluggish response to other weather related event which have hit the country including the flooding earlier this year and the deadly wildfires in 2010.

It was a big week for the people of Palestine. The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly Thursday night to grant Palestine non-member observer state status. Only Israel, the United States, Canada, Panama, the Czech Republic, and four Pacific island states voted against the move. The majority of U.S. allies in Europe: France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark and Turkey joined the majority in the 138-9 vote, which had 41 abstentions, including Britain and Germany.

It seems that the world has voted to give the Palestinians the rights: Observers have the right to speak at United Nations General Assembly meetings, participate in procedural votes, and to sponsor and sign resolutions, but not to vote on resolutions and other substantive matters. Various other rights (e.g., to speak in debates, to submit proposals and amendments, the right of reply, to raise points of order and to circulate documents, etc.) are given selectively to some observers only. So far, the EU is the only international organization to hold these enhanced powers.Also they have the right to bring cases against a state to the International court of human rights.

However The USA & Israel were against this move.Susan Rice the US Ambassador to the UN stated: "I'm worried that the Palestinian people, after the parties are over, will wake up and realize that nothing has changed. In a fragile economy, with the Palestinian Authority calling people to the streets to protest, in the context of what's happening in the region, this is pretty volatile. We should not assume that when people, having had their hopes raised, see that not much has happened, it will just be shrugged off. Where this leads I can't predict.

Well I would disagree. The major importance to having a world wide organization such as the UN. Is that every race and nationality of people have a voice. So at granting Palestine this status increases diplomacy and could cool down violence in this war torn region.Also seen in Palestine that night, when people took to the streets to celebrate this resolution, people were happy there was no violence, now protest just celebration.

The Palestinian People are trying to achieve statehood. Like other regions such as: Catalonia, The Basque, Tibet, Scotland, etc. Its it a crime for these nations to have it?

Ireland: The Gathering 2013

Good day to you all. So anyone following the Irish media, you have probably found out about the gathering. I only found out about this the other day when An Post (Irish Post Service) delivering free postcards to send to your foreign families and friends. Basically the scheme is to try and drag all the plastic paddies, Irish people around the world or any tourist willing to come here. Basically we're broke and we are inviting ye over so spend your dollars, yen, pounds. Etc.

Well I wouldn't discourage anyone visiting Ireland.. It is a beautiful country, hills mountains, lakes, glens, etc. but if you are not into history or nature the is not anything else here to offer.

If you are coming, there are a few points you probably need to know.

1. It is expensive here, Ireland has high sales tax on some products, some as high as 23%. Also the austerity budget is nearly due so this might rise.

2. Hotels here are like the mafia, they will bump up prices to an extortionate level, so bring a tent. Some hotels mightn't be finished due to the economic collapse so make sure the hotel you are booking is complete.

3. Public Transport in Ireland is non existent outside of the city's of Ireland, so if you are planning to travel this country, you have to rent a car.

4. Which leads me to petrol/gas prices. It's 161.9 Eurocent a litre now and judging from trends from the last 10 years. I'm estimating to be at 179 cent per litre next year.

5. Again driving in Ireland. City roads are usually paved, but leave the city (to see the country) the country roads can be daunting. Remember tarmacadam surfaces are present, but surfaces conditions are well, just about here (good car game to play here is called avoid the potholes and/or crators) also roads with a lot of loose chippings is like driving on ice.

6. Irish Climate: Wet, windy, cold & Cloudy

7. If you don't have health insurance, Don't get sick while you are here.,with closing hospitals here, you could be further from a hospital than you think. And if are near one the A&E might close for the night in some hospitals. Just because we are in Europe doesn't mean we have universal/public health care.

Protest against next Irish budget & G8 In Ireland

Well it was a big turn out for the protest of the next Irish budget. Approximately 10,000 turned out to rally against the 6th austerity budget in a row. Ireland faced national bankruptcy in 2010 and was forced to negotiate an international bailout. Those European Union-International Monetary Fund loans run out next year. The government will attempt to cut spending this year and is predicted to cut socail spending, while leaving their own wages intact.

The streets of Dublin were fill with people who had enough. One protester commented '" the goverment cant be given a free hand to cut what ever they like. You have to be willing to go out on the streets and do something"

Protesters ranged from people wearing Santa hats. A rider on horse back in a white mask and a black cape depicting 'Death' while the horse had a "no to austerity" banner around its neck. Other protesters had placards depicting Irish leaders as snakes with plea's to St. Patrick to return to banish them. I say the poor snakes, not fair to tarnish their species.

The Irsh buget is going to be presented on the 5th of December & Kenny is looking for €3.5 Billion is spending cuts and Tax hikes of €4.6 million. Thanks wanker bankers!

Ah and its G8 time again with David Cameron (UK PM) has chosen county Fermanagh as the location for the Summit. The five-star Lough Erne complex in Enniskillen, opened in 2007, is located on a 600-acre peninsula between Castle Hume Lough and Lower Lough Erne.

The £35m development is now on the market for a third of that figure. The G8's roots lie in the oil crisis and global economic recession of the early 1970s. Green Day Rocks Urged To Make Video For Teen

An Irish teen from Blackrock Dublin who was a superfan of the Punkrockers Green Day suddenly died. His death has set of a internet campaign to get Green Day to record a video for the 17 year old's funeral. The 17 year old Kaelem Hainsworth has already garnered much support from the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook in an attempt to get the attention of Green Day.

Micky Power the teenagers friend said that Kaelem was an avid supporter of Green Day “Kaelem Hainsworth was the biggest Green Day fan I knew and has attended every concert in which Green Day performed in Dublin since he was eligible as he was only 17” and Mr Power says that Kaelem was looking forward to Green Day performing in Dublin again.

Some celebrities have retweeted the request and others have used the #makekaelemsdaygreen hashtag which has been trending on twitter for sometime. Apparently Warner Bros have contacted the band with the request. His funeral will take place during the week.

This is such a sad story I hope that Green Day can find time to record a message for the teenager and honor the request.

It Seems were sleep walking into a Climate disaster faster when we think. In 2011 the amount of heat trapping gas CO2 Carbon Dioxide reached 390 ppm 40 increase since 1750 the start of the industrial revolution. The other heat trapping gasses Methane ppb and Nitrous Oxide 324.2 ppb and when you add this up the heat prevented from leaving the Earths atmosphere is 30% lower then it was in 1990 scary I think.

You might think as the environment has become more of an issue in recent times, that scientists recently found out that these gasses are heat trapping but no, scientists knew this in the mid 1800's. and have been tracking the steady increase of the levels of CO2 since 1950.

Plants and Oceans have been absorbing the vast amounts of CO2 were pumping out, but as the worlds population exploding at such pace the land required to feed us outstrips demand so were now hacking at the lungs of our planet pushing the crisis further out of our control. Since 1990 the global temperature has risen by 1.7 degrees and still the countries across the globe have'nt taken this seriously only taking part in non-binding agreements seen in Copenhagen in 2009. The World Bank released a report stating that the average temperature could rise as high as 4 degrees by 2060.

I do find it strange that people will stick there head in the sand and ignore the signs, we already have strange weather events, the freak events are becoming all to frequent. Soon we will not be able to cope with the extreme conditions and will be the reason of our own demise. Still once the oil companies and coal barrons can make there obscene profits screw New York, London, Sydney they can just sink into the sea.

Hero Helps Land A Plane

It has all the trappings of a Hollywood film but an unsuspecting hero onboard a Lufthansa747 flight from Newark (USA) to Frankfurt (Germany) was in mid flight when the co-pilot took ill with 264 passengers on board. The incident which occurred yesterday forced the plane to land in Dublin Airport when the crew member became ill from a massive migraine and became incapacitated. The Dublin Airport Authority confirmed that the flight LH403 landed safely in Dublin about 5.30am.

Talking about luck but the very person who you want on the flight when things go wrong it a fully trained pilot and that what they got. A Lufthansa spokeswoman confirmed that the hero that stepped in was fully qualified to fly a 747 she also said "In such circumstances it's absolutely normal procedure for the pilot, the flight captain, to continue to operate the aircraft," she said."Also, where necessary, the cabin crew are fully trained and can be called upon to read checklists back to the pilot."The procedures are in place for such an eventuality. But the effort of the off-duty pilot was certainly appreciated."

Wonders never cease, a man from Arizona who owns a gun shop has placed a ban on anybody who has voted for Barack Obama even though Democratic support is a minority. The man Craig Reynolds circulated an add on the local newspaper with an add saying “If you voted for Barack Obama, your business is NOT WELCOME at Southwest Shooting Authority. You have proven you are not responsible enough to own a firearm,”

The man obviously does'nt know how a democracy works. The town of Pinetop-Lakeside has a population of 4,280, only 736 of whom voted for Obama he was so incensed by there lack of voting for the proper party has now placed a ban on them. Mr Obama has not placed any gun controls on the gun sector but apparently that does'nt matter. Asked how he would weed out the evil Democratic voters in his well thought out plan he said it was more of a statement then an out right ban as it would be hard to differentiate the voter but if a person openly admitted to being a Democratic voter he would not serve them.

Can Anybody Solve A Problem Like The Middle East?

If it’s not Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Syria, Iran and the whole cabal I cannot help but get Middle East fatigue. It seems just as one conflict stops another one arises. Currently there’s a civil war in Syria still raging on. The so called Arab spring replaced leaders in Libya and Egypt.

In Egypt though it’s not all that clear discontentment is still running high as many people realise there revolutionary dreams haven’t happened. I know how you feel, Ireland was meant to be a proper republic and was not to be taken over by the Catholic Church and the abortion incident last week shows you the result. But the last the few days world’s greatest enemies Palestine and Israel have reconvened there dispute and dropped missiles on each other killing lives both sides of the border.

I believe logic really comes down to it at the end of the day, Gaza cant expect to be left alone by lobbing missiles into Israel’s border and not expecting missiles to be returned. Israel cannot blockade Gaza city denying people basic human rights such as medicine school books or wheelchairs. Eh if they are still lobbing rockets into your country your blockade is not working and only inflaming anger in the Gaza region.

It will be really foolish to create a full blown war as this could spark strong regional reaction. This should be stopped through diplomatic channels with both sides agreeing to realistic compromises and topping it all off Iran with its alleged nuclear crisis. it’s a recipe for disaster with foreign countries outside the middle east region having a stake in military violence and at the end of the day innocent people will suffer let’s just hope a sustainable cease fire will hold and peace can reign again. It seem religious ideology rearing its ugly head again to me religious ideology is the bigger killer in the world brain washing people to believe certain things if not hate gay people and claiming land in the name of god .

Man In Court Over Feeding A Pastry To Horse

A man from Glasgow Scotland Francis Kelly has been arrested with "breach of the peace" earlier in the year. The man was warned that he should not feed the police horse but deemed that the horse looked hungry and fed him anyway. The case will be brought before the courts next year, and critics say its a complete waste of money.

The police claim that he took an aggressive stance to feeding the animal, question how do you take an aggressive stance to feeding an animal? It is unclear how the man came into contact with the animal, but declined to comment but is believed he will deny the charge.

It comes after an Oxford student in England on an night out was arrested after he asked an nearby police officer if his horse was gay or not. When he was arrested he refused to pay the fine of £80 and instead spent a night in the police cell, the charges were dropped the following day.

Police officer need to lighten up there are worse crimes committed in the world, and time spend arresting such minor cases, wastes money and resources could be better applied elsewhere.

Will The Government Now Legislate For The X Case

Following the death of 31 year old Savita Halappanavar following the denial of an abortion in a hospital in Galway, candle lit vigils across Ireland have occurred in Emmet Place in Cork, Eyre Square in Galway and protest outside Leinster House (Irish Parliament).

From my view of events it’s hard to determine what happened, we just have to wait for the inquiry to take its course, but it seems the woman went into hospital presenting signs of a miscarriage, the doctors allegedly refused on the grounds of a Catholic country. But under Irish law until the foetus's heart has to stop beating and then the termination can continue. The foetus’s heart stopped and the foetus was removed but tragically the woman contracted an infection and later died.

Under the 1992 X Case ruling, the Supreme Court found that abortion is allowed in Ireland under the Constitution in circumstances where there is a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother. However no government has yet introduced legislation to enact the ruling, creating a grey area for medical practitioners. I find that the contempt lies at the feet of successive governments for the failure to introduce the legislation 20 years on. Even the European Court of Human Rights has repeatedly demanded that Ireland introduce the legislation. Even the current Taoiseach Enda Kenny has dodged this issue stating that it’s not important.

It shows that this country is still backwards in many ways and the irony is Ireland was given a seat on the United Nations for Human Rights. This issue has backfired on the current conservative coalition leading partner Fine Gael who has been dodging the abortion question for a while, now they are being quite rightly put under pressure to now finally legislate for the X case. If they pass the X Case ruling it will only clear up the grounds for the case to terminate the pregnancy when the mother’s life is danger.

I would go further and petition the government to hold a referendum to pass legislation to get proper abortion laws passed as this is now a human right issue. Ireland is supposed to be a 21st century country not the bible church dominated land that has destroyed us from the beginning of the foundation of the state. I would like to tell many foreign people that our government is more conservative then many people who live here and a majority are in favour of relaxed abortion laws.

A move to ban smoking on the grounds of the Irish Parliament (Dáil) making it the first smoke free parliament in the world failed yesterday. Earlier this year the same Parliamentarians passed similar legislation to ban smoking on the grounds of hospitals forcing patients and staff to exit the grounds to have their nicotine fix. Putting down the motion Independent Senator John Crown on the Health Committee said “good enough for poor sick patients who are stuck in hospital beds and the staff who work in hospitals, it should be good enough for our parliamentarians”.

But the precious parliamentarians in Dublin obviously think they are somehow different to the rest of the Irish public. Fianna Fáil spokesman on health Billy Kelleher piped up with a useless defence of the status-quo saying “It could be dangerous to some members’ health to go outside the gates and have a cigarette because they’d have people outside there waiting for them at particular times when governments inevitably get unpopular.” Well just a little hint Mr Kelleher you mightn’t be attacked if you governed for all of the people not just the select few. Might I add if you and your Parliament colleagues can’t deal with leaving the Dáil for a smoke give up, just like you hoped the changes to the policy on hospitals would have an effect on us plebs.

Just shows how out of touch Irish modern democracy has become really out of touch with the electorate, it really frustrates me by their hypocrital actions not just on smoking but on the abortion fiasco and other policy issues.

Maine and Rhode Island to Legislate For Marijuana

Another day another liberal breakthrough, the legislature of Maine and Rhode Island are to try and pass a bill to legalise a medical Marijuana following the lead of Vermont and Massachusetts in legalising medical Marijuana. Both States are relatively liberal so the omens look good. This is good news people can use the safer drug popular drug known as weed unlike alcohol. At the end of the day legal Marijuana can take police away from dealing with the petty crimes associated with personal possession and deal with major crimes, also crushing the drug dealers with safer drugs. Lets hope common sense prevails.

Austerity & Assembly In Doubt

Another day, week, month, year, grinding punishing austerity has been unleashed on the P.I.I.G'S of Europe. Yet when people come out to democratically assemble (their right might I add) the response is phenomenal.

Yesterday across Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy came together in solidarity in response to fiscal tightening across the debt ravaged continent. In Europe the policies of austerity are very interesting, I’m in favour of fiscal tightening but there seems to be two types of Austerity.

The first type is the slash and burning of the basic social security of the less well off in society even though Europe is suffering the worst economic crisis since the great depression with record unemployment.

The second type of austerity or lack of is the fiscal indiscipline to the higher echelons of society; many governments have avoided putting rich people under pressure and sharing their part of the burden. They fail to close tax avoidance loop-holes in the system to help increase tax revenues to help their beleaguered states. This has been seen across the entire continent since the recession. I find it staggering that the governments seem so eager to bail out the bank which adds to the government debt and pushes the countries into these debt cissies thus putting pressure on governments to cut deeper into social programmes. Aren’t these banks products of the free market system so why not let them fail.

In Ireland the bailed out banks and majority state owned, has sunk the nation with private debts and pushed us into a bailout situation. Many people went mad during the so called “Celtic Tiger” but many didn’t and are now suffering the crisis and to make matters worse two of the state owned banks paid 57 of their staff over €150,000. Spain’s situation is quite similar to Ireland a housing bubble that went bust. In recent time this has manifested in the horrible suicides that have occurred from evictees from Spanish homes including Amaya Egaña a Spanish woman who leaped to her death from her sixth floor balcony in northern Spain stirring up emotions even more.

This brings me to the worrying trend of the harsh and extreme crack down by police forces across the continent granted there was violence on the side of protesters but video shown of the police using their batons on protestors using their right to assemble where they want and voice there issues free from repression. It seems governments are happy to use excessive force on the movement that will gather pace and hopefully bring some real change to Europe. We can only hope that the governments will open there eyes and be on the side of the vast majority that need the help not the few rich cleptocrats, dictating the policies for the rest of us. The silence coming from the levels of Europe regarding the protests is quite startling can you imagine the indignation these same governments pour on countries like Russia and china.

Yeah some thing I discovered on my adventures on the web. A Lithuanian engineer Julijonas Urbonas’ invention the 'Euthanasia Coaster' is a roller coaster that, lets say to go out in style. the structure is 1,670 ft (approx 500M) tall and made up of one Hill and 7 loops.

Although the structure is a scaled model at the moment, Urbonas says that this coaster has a top speed of 224 mph (360 km/h) and lasts for 3 minutes and 20 seconds. It is the G-Force that is the killer on this roller coaster, with the prediction of up to 10 G that can kill a human being.

Once at the top, you still have a chance to make the ultimate decision of your life, to live or to die. The spinning motion would create a centrifugal force that makes all the blood rush away from the brain, and insufficient oxygen would ultimately lead to death.

Chinese President Corruption Warnings

So the Chinese Parliament will be appointing their new leader over the upcoming days. The current ruler of the most powerful country in the world do more 'to deal with the problem of corruption'.
In his final remarks as leader of the political party that single - handedly rules 1.3 billion people and charts the course for the world’s second-largest economy, President Hu had a warning for the Chinese Communist party. "Opposing corruption and building an honest and clean government is a clear stance the party has been adhering to and is an important political issue the people have been paying attention to. If we fail to handle this issue [corruption] well, it could prove fatal to the party and even cause the collapse of the party and the fall of the state," he said.

Big warning eh. but legal analysts note that China’s anti-corruption efforts focus largely on local or lower-ranking officials and rarely reach all the way to the top echelons of the party’s leadership.

Em well if you can call them the Communist Party. Watching Chinese news channels, you would see images of the 'good ould days' painted on infomercials. Watching a certain news channel closing down, with the national anthem of China, there was a scene with a group of citizens saluting the famous red banner, the hammer and sickle. When the anthem as over the channel went to the markets.

The other criticism I have for the Chinese communist party is that the communist party guarantees rights for the working class , working and economical. This does not happen, In fact they let multi - national companies to come in and treat the citizen very poorly long hours, low pay, etc.

Health in China is another issue, guaranteed under the communist party manifesto, do not seem to materialize. Especially with mental health issues which the government is neglecting.

However the successes of the party over the last decade have been good. In general quality of life has increased for the majority of the people. The government is investing into housing, Health & especially education. But like in the rest of the world the gap between rich & poor is widening than ever. This is an issue the party is keen to fix . The government seems to be leaning away from socialism. This could be the decisive issue that could face Chinese people.

Should Marijuana Be Legalised

As US citizens went to the poles yesterday to elect their leader, some states had referendums on the legalization of Marijuana for recreational use. In Colorado, Massachusetts, and in Washington had the biggest victory ever for the legalization movement. The problem is that the recreational use of Marijuana is still a crime at a federal level. This could undermine individual states rights to legalize. However the voter approval of legal weed in Colorado and Washington could lead to a Supreme Court battle with the federal government.

Why is marijuana still illegal in this day and age? yes there is pros ad cons in this argument. Yes there is mental health awareness of this drug. Many studies say that over use of this could lead to problems. But we can say that about any drug. for example there is alcoholism, which is reported to be a greater problem at the moment as to dependency of Marijuana.

Also the Legalization could lead to the down turn of criminal gangs. If Marijuana is available easily and safely over the counter, this can lead to drug gangs being pushed out of the market & also drug dealers will be no longer as prominent as they are today. Also the health side of this issue. Drug dealers are notoriously known to bulk up Marijuana with highly dangerous substances including rat poison. If Marijuana becomes legalized, then this industry can be regulated an monitored.

To an economic point of view, Revenue generated by legalization help the government. In some states the sales tax (VAT) can be as high as 25%. This money can help schools hospitals library's etc to develop in these hard economic times.Also part of this tax can go to rehab clinics to provide people who are dependent on drugs to kick the habit.

Another economical point, with legalization, Less people will end up in prisons due to harsh convictions over possession of small amounts of weed. Therefore the state spends less tax-payers money on prison populations and more on the general public.

Look at the Netherlands, with its liberal view on Marijuana. The don't have crime waves, use of the drug is controlled.(limited to home use and in selected cafes). The Dutch government have imposed tougher regulations on the industry, but it is not working out as they planed.

I'm am not endorsing the use of Marijuana but we cannot waste resources of keeping Marijuana illegal.

Peru Shamans Backs Obama
