Starting our new travel lifestyle with a calm, coastal New Year’s stop with rules that mattered

The time had finally come. Our bricks-and-sticks home in Texas was empty, with all the furniture and extra stuff in storage, and it was starting to get chilly in Texas. Although it was hard to say goodbye to a few of our friends and family, nothing else was holding us back from hitting the road. We were finally Florida-bound to visit after a few weeks of delay — but it was a delay well worth it! Mackenzie finished her private pilot license in Conroe just before the holidays, and we could not be more proud of her – plus we hope to get some great aerial views of places we visit!

Although we could have stayed in Texas a bit longer, we decided to travel over New Year’s Eve – and a lot came down to selecting a campground where we felt safe. We specifically chose Biloxi Bay RV Resort & Marina because it presented itself as a true RV resort with active management and a strict policy against setting off your own fireworks. While I enjoy a good fireworks show here and there, when your entire life is parked just a few feet away from your neighbor, you don’t want to end up next to the community pyro. We needed a place that took safety seriously and also offered us an overall beautiful and relaxing experience after a few hard months of moving excitement and lots of studying for Mackenzie, along with our other basic needs.

First Impressions (on New Year’s Eve)

The check-in process was easy and organized which we were so thankful for because we’d just driven 420 miles. We arrived on New Year’s Eve and their front office was closed, but we found all the information we needed to navigate to our campsite (and it had been emailed to us ahead of arrival as well).

Biloxi Bay RV Resort sits on sixty-two acres and the owners have built it with intention. The park is situated at the back of a residential neighborhood and the entrance is very clearly marked which we always appreciate. The park was very clean and orderly with newer RVs and motorcoaches occupying many of the campsites. We could tell from the beginning that they were serious about keeping up with maintenance and making it a nice place for guests to stay.

Campsites & Setup

We stayed at campsite 122 which was a concrete pull thru with a gravel parking pad on the side. The site was centrally located to go in or out of the campground and easy to access. We pulled right into our spot and were setup within 15-20 minutes. Our goal was to get situated before the University of Miami vs Ohio State college football game was on…and we were well within our time frame.

The park has about 250 campsites for RVs which are setup in three rings. There was a decent amount of space between sites and we were able to fit our fifth-wheel, F350, and Bronco on the space with little trouble. They also didn’t charge extra for an additional vehicle which we appreciated.

There are a few ponds and treed sections scattered across the park as well as beach access to the bay. Because everything was spacious and well laid out, it was very relaxing to walk the dog or stretch our legs while enjoying the views.

New Year’s Eve Reality Check

We booked this campsite only a few days before we would arrive in Biloxi so it was helpful that it’s a large RV resort that had quite a few spaces still open. But don’t get me wrong – there was probably at least 80% occupancy and everyone we came across was jovial and friendly.

When it came to New Year’s Eve celebrations, this RV resort had it all planned out. While personal fireworks were explicitly banned, the resort hosted their own fireworks show over the bay and poolside New Year’s Eve party for guests including entertainment. We decided to sit the party out but guests we spoke to seemed to enjoy the celebration and the park was rather quiet otherwise. Fire risk was very low and we slept well that night knowing that nothing was going to land on our roof or slides.

Resort Style Amenities

Biloxi Bay RV Resort & Marina has got all the things you could want in a gulf coast vacation destination including golf cart rentals if you want to get around the property quickly.

Do you like the water? Enjoy their beautiful pool with a view and separate lazy river for hanging out or bayfront water activities like kayaking and paddleboards (which you can rent onsite). Or bring your own boat and you can launch from their marina. You can also practice your disc golf skills at their two-hole course if you prefer activities on solid ground.

The resort overall seems fairly new and they definitely put thought into design and layout. All of their amenities were well maintained and they had several maintenance crew members onsite after the holiday. We enjoyed walking around and it was peaceful in the off-season but probably comes to life as Mississippi weather warms up!.

Connectivity and Remote-Work Readiness

We had great connectivity while we were here and although it was a light work week, we were able to get 5G coverage with Verizon and good speeds on the Starlink as well. There was minimal tree coverage at the campsite so we didn’t have much satellite interference either.

The Mississippi gulf coast is not a perfect option if Stefan needs to fly out for work but we weren’t anticipating any major trips over that time frame anyway. There is an airport about 30 minutes from the RV resort in Gulfport, MS, but there are unfortunately few direct flights where he would have needed to go.

Running & Marathon Training

One of the reasons we chose this area is because it was well suited for winter marathon training. Although the campground allows you to get some steps in, we drove over to Ocean Springs Beach and started from there for our seven mile run. There’s free public parking along the edge of the bridge and beach which made it a great starting point.

It is a really cute and beautiful area, stretching from manicured beaches into residential areas thru downtown Ocean Springs entertainment district. We enjoyed the variety of things we ran past and getting to know a bit more about this unique little town via foot, especially since the winter weather was rather moderate.

Small-Town Calm Meets City Energy

The location of Biloxi Bay RV Resort & Marina is really great and offers the best of both worlds. You can reach Biloxi’s casinos, energy, and city conveniences in about 15 minutes. Or you can travel to the more laid back Ocean Springs, also in 10-15 minutes. Both have an array of restaurants and hot spots to visit – but will leave you with a very different vibe.

This region worked really well as a pause point between Texas and Florida and we definitely would go back. It was close to the water, easy to explore, and mentally refreshing.

Who This Campground Is Perfect For (and Who It’s Not)

Perfect if you:

Like a larger, structured RV resort experience

Enjoy large sites but also getting you know your neighbors a little

Value well a maintained property in a safe area

Are working remotely or training during travel

Probably not ideal if you:

Prefer completely unstructured camping

Are looking for the most low cost option with no park ammenities

Would We Stay Again?

I’ve already spoiled the surprise, but yet, we would absolutely go back again. We appreciate the layout of the campground, the friendly and attentive staff, the easy access to restaurants and essentials, and the absolute calm and beauty of the entire area.

When you decide to live in your RV full-time, there are some conveniences in life that you might miss. Our transition from 3,227 sq ft to 320 sq ft has been a gradual one over about two years with lots of reorganizing of spaces along the way. During that time, we’ve learned that it’s not about how much space you have, but rather how you utilize it. Living with more intention and less stuff overall isn’t always the most natural shift, but it has certainly begun to make our lives feel more purposeful and happier.

Our first travel trailer was great for weekend escapes, but at around 250 sq ft total and a less-than-perfect floorplan, it was not ideal for long-term or full-time travel. That’s why when we started wondering if we could make full-time travel would work for us, we quickly switched to a fifth wheel trailer with two separate sleeping spaces.

As we tested out how we liked RV life last summer during our 7-week adventure out West, there were a few things we realized would be really important to make life better – and most of them were at a surprisingly low cost.

7 items that Helped Make Our RV Feel Like Home

1 – Waterdrop On-Demand Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System – ca. $450

The most expensive upgrade on this list, and the most effort to install, but by far the biggest impact. We do our best to stay hydrated every day, especially when out hiking. But with two adults, a seventeen-year-old, a big dog, and two thirsty cats on board, we needed quite a bit of drinking water (around 5 gallons a day). That’s a lot of gallons of water to buy at the grocery store, and a huge 5-gallon water dispenser wasn’t very practical in our setup. So instead, we invested in a Waterdrop Reverse Osmosis System with a small faucet and under-sink unit. This does need to be plugged in and we had to cut a hole in the countertop for the installation, but we have zero regrets. The Waterdrop filters the water quickly and we add electrolyte powder and various flavorings to improve the final water taste to our own preferences. No longer do we need to give up limited fridge space for a water dispenser or track down water at every stop!

Check out the Waterdrop G3P600 Reverse Osmosis System on Amazon (affiliate link.)

2 – Adjustable Water Pressure Regulator – $38

Having strong enough water pressure to enjoy your shower without constantly adjusting the temperature levels is a must! We had a non-adjustable regulator for quite a while and it seemed to do its job a bit too well, restricting the water flow significantly in our RV. Our pipes didn’t suffer but we really disliked constantly fiddling with the shower to find the right temperature balance and maintain any sort of pressure. Until we bought the adjustable water pressure regulator, we always wondered if we were the only ones suffering or if the water pressure could be improved. Now we know it was just our old regulator.

Get yourself a Camco Adjustable RV Brass Water Pressure Regulator on Amazon (affiliate link.)

3 – Cozy Blankets & Pillows

In the evenings, we enjoy curling up on our chairs and lounge space with our cozy pillows and blankets as we watch a TV or movie together as a family. We each have our own preferred blanket styles and added plenty of pillows to the seating corner so there’s plenty of space and coziness for all.

4 – Glassware & Ceramic Plates – $33 & $21

When we decided to move onto the RV full-time, we all felt it was essential to have real glasses and plates to drink out of while we travel. We may not use them for every meal, but it definitely matters. Paper plates are fine for quick stopover nights or when you just don’t feel like doing the dishes. But we love to cook or have a nice Old Fashioned with dinner sometimes. Some things just need to be enjoyed at the highest possible level of quality. Traveling with glassware and real plates does have some risk factors but we have found that with this single storage glassware storage box and a couple of plateholders, we’re able to keep everything tidy and safe while we’re bumping down the road.

Get a storage box for your stemware and glassware on Amazon (affiliate link.)

Look at adjustable plate holders on Amazon (affiliate link.)

5 – Fun Art & Strategic Use of Command Hooks

Putting holes in your RV walls can lead to unpleasant discoveries so we’ve tried to avoid that at all costs. But we still needed ways to add pops of colorful art, hang towel hooks, and utilize wall space for things like caps and dog leashes. Command Hooks and framed art hanging strips have been a lifesaver! I even figured out how to use them to hang up our wall mount for our Dyson vacuum.

Baseball Cap Hooks – Command Medium Wire Hooks

Command Hook Variety Pack to see what you like best

6 – Shelves & Hooks in the Shower

RV showers can be fairly small but we’re making the most of the limited space by adding corner shelves and a few hooks. It’s way nicer to not bend down all the time in the shower and there’s been fewer injuries from the shower door handle as well. When we move to a new spot, we just remove all the bottles from the shelves and lay the items in the shower. Easy peasy.

Corner shower acrylic shelves on Amazon (affiliate link)

Suction cup razor hooks on Amazon (affiliate link)

7 – Real Plants

Yes, it’s a bit outside the norm, but we feel like having a just a couple of plants onboard makes our space instantly happier and more colorful. We had small plastic plants from IKEA on our counter for a long time which was also a nice, easy option. But when we moved onto the RV full-time, we still had a few small plants that we cared about so we brought them along. So far, it’s been a learning experience but they’re doing well overall.

We do have a few additional ideas in the works to customize our RV a bit more, because much like a house, we feel that you should turn it into something you love completely! But we are so happy with these few changes already that really just make living as three people and three pets in 320 sq ft a bit easier. Because sure, the world is our backyard – but when you’ve got remote work and schoolwork to take care, you want your inside space to be cozy too.

8 – Area Rugs & Runners

Although we don’t have a huge amount of floor space, there is a lot of foot traffic in small spaces. We had a runner in our kitchen / living room space previously but upgraded to a larger area rug that covered almost the entire living room when we went full time. This not only protect the floor but also keeps a lot of stuff away from the slide. It also makes that area feel so much more warm and cozy, like it’s part of a home. We made sure the rugs we selected were machine washable as well so they can be taken to a laundry mat anywhere to be cleaned up when the inevitable strikes.

Purchasing land for long-term living represents a significant investment and lifestyle choice. Whether you’re dreaming of building your forever home or establishing a homestead, understanding the complexities of land ownership can save you from costly mistakes and future headaches. Prices are already on the rise. According to the USDA, rural land prices increased by more than 6% annually between 2020 and 2023, outpacing inflation in many regions.

Zoning Regulations and Building Restrictions

Before falling in love with a piece of property, research local zoning laws thoroughly. Nearly 1 in 4 rural land parcels in the U.S. have restrictions that limit residential construction, including minimum lot size or setbacks. These regulations determine what you can and cannot build on your land. Some areas restrict residential construction, limit building heights, or require minimum lot sizes. Agricultural zones might prohibit certain types of dwellings, while residential zones could restrict farming activities. Contact the local planning department to obtain zoning information and understand any existing easements or covenants that might affect your plans.

Access to Essential Utilities

Raw land often lacks basic infrastructure, and connecting utilities can be surprisingly expensive. Investigate the availability and cost of water, electricity, sewage, and internet service. If municipal water isn’t available, you’ll need to drill a well, which can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000 depending on depth and local geology. Similarly, septic systems for properties without sewer access typically run between $3,000 and $10,000. Electric companies may charge substantial fees to extend power lines to remote properties, sometimes reaching tens of thousands of dollars.

Road Access and Maintenance Responsibilities

Verify that the property has legal access via a public road or recorded easement. Landlocked properties without guaranteed access rights can be nearly impossible to develop. If the land borders a private road, determine who maintains it and what your financial obligations might be. Winter access is particularly important in mountainous regions, so consider snow removal costs and challenges when evaluating properties in areas with harsh weather conditions.

Soil Quality and Land Stability

The soil composition affects everything from septic system viability to foundation stability. Request a percolation test to determine if the soil can support a septic system. Clay-heavy soils drain poorly, while sandy soils may not provide adequate filtration. Additionally, conduct geological surveys to identify potential issues like unstable slopes, high water tables, or bedrock close to the surface that could complicate construction. Conducting soil tests and geotechnical surveys typically costs $1,500–$5,000, but can prevent foundation repairs that exceed $50,000.

Water Rights and Natural Resources

In many western states, water rights are separate from land ownership. Understanding water law in your area is crucial, especially if you plan to irrigate crops, maintain livestock, or rely on surface water. Some properties include valuable water rights, while others may have limited or no access to water resources. Over 80% of western water rights are already allocated, making new permits difficult or impossible in some areas. Working with professionals like Gurr Luxury Properties can help you navigate these complex real estate considerations and ensure you understand all aspects of your potential purchase.

Environmental Considerations and Protected Areas

Research whether the property contains wetlands, endangered species habitats, or archaeological sites, as these features can severely restrict development. Environmental regulations protect these areas, and violations can result in hefty fines. Additionally, check if the land lies within a flood zone, which affects insurance costs and building requirements.

Long-Term Financial Planning

Beyond the purchase price, budget for property taxes, insurance, land maintenance, and development costs. Many buyers underestimate the expense of site preparation, including clearing, grading, and creating building pads. Factor in the time required to complete construction, as building on raw land typically takes longer than anticipated due to permitting delays and weather-related setbacks.

Making Your Dream a Reality

Buying land for long-term living requires careful due diligence and realistic planning. Take time to visit the property during different seasons, talk with neighbors about their experiences, and consult with local contractors about development costs. With thorough research and professional guidance, you can find the perfect parcel to build your future dream home and create a lasting legacy for generations to come.

We adopted our Great Dane, Claire Danes (formerly known as Shorty), in September 2021 from the Humane Society in Fishers, Indiana.

To be clear: We were not looking to adopt a dog.

The loss of our Newfoundland, Ayla, a few years earlier was still raw, tender, and very much unresolved. She was a one-of-a-kind sort of dog and also our first together. We told ourselves we were just going to look. Just to say hi. Just to walk through the shelter for a minute.

You already know how this story ends.

One moment of weakness — or maybe insanity — later and a night to think it over, we were loading a 100+ pound dog into the car and driving home with a brand-new family member who would proceed to steal our hearts, our floor space, and most of our personal boundaries.

Adopting any dog comes with challenges. Adopting a large rescue dog — especially one with an unknown past — comes with a learning curve. We don’t know exactly what Claire experienced before she ended up at the shelter, but she definitely arrived with a few quirks that required patience, consistency, and a sense of humor.

She still won’t go up or down stairs inside a house. She’s not a fan of small rooms. And we’re actively working through leash reactivity when other dogs appear on the street.

Also, yes — holding back a 115-pound dog who suddenly decides today is the day to have big feelings can be… memorable. Especially when she plants a paw squarely on your foot.

Over the last few years, though, we’ve learned a lot about Great Danes — things no one really tells you upfront. So if you’re thinking about getting one (or already have one stretched across your couch), here are a few things to know.

And if you’re a fellow Dane parent, feel free to add anything we missed in the comments. We know this list could go on forever.

1. Great Danes Are German (Despite the Name)

Great Danes actually originated in Germany, where the breed is known as Deutsche Dogge. Somewhere along the way, marketing — or geography — stepped in, and they were rebranded as “Great Danes.” They are neither Danish nor particularly aware of their own greatness, but here we are.

2. They Are Olympic-Level Sleepers

Great Danes are shockingly lazy. Claire appears to sleep at least 18 hours a day, and on some days, she’s not even enthusiastic about going outside. We’ve had mornings where she looks at us like, “You’re awake… on purpose?” Honestly? This was a feature, not a bug.

We love hiking and being outdoors, but we don’t always have time for a five-mile trek before breakfast. We intentionally looked for breeds that matched our real lifestyle — not our aspirational one — and Danes fit that bill perfectly.

3. They Are Naturally Anxious (About Everything)

Great Danes are sensitive souls.

Outdoor trash cans? Terrifying.

A dropped lid? Immediate flight response.

A new object that wasn’t there yesterday? Suspicious at best.

Claire startles easily and sometimes reacts before her brain catches up. This seems to be fairly common with the breed — they’re big, gentle, and emotionally tuned in, which also means they can be anxious.

Patience helps. So does routine. And occasionally, reassurance that the recycling bin is not, in fact, trying to kill her.

4. They Are Incredibly Good-Natured

Claire genuinely wants to be a rule follower. She doesn’t always know what the rules are, and she can get a little over-excited, but she tries. That’s something that really stands out about her.

This was the complete opposite of our Newfie, who marched to the beat of her own drum and spent her life negotiating for the alpha position until the very end. Claire, on the other hand, just wants to be told she’s doing a good job. Even when she isn’t.

5. You’ve Never Seen a Sad Face Like a Hungry Great Dane

Great Danes have elite facial expressions. The sad eyes. The dramatic sighs. The slow head tilt that says, “I have never been fed in my entire life.” Claire’s expressions alone could run a successful Instagram account. Hunger amplifies this by at least 300%.

6. They Can (Apparently) Tell Time

Claire has an alarm clock embedded somewhere deep in her soul. She knows exactly when breakfast time rolls around every morning. Not five minutes early. Not late. On time.

That said, she’s actually far more patient than our Newfie ever was. There’s urgency, yes — but not the same level of existential panic.

7. They Are True Gentle Giants (With Zero Spatial Awareness)

Claire has absolutely no idea how big she is. She would happily cuddle on the furniture with us like the cats if we allowed it. (We mostly don’t.)

She’s affectionate, sweet, and deeply committed to physical closeness — but she also has very little control over her limbs. Stray paws happen. Eye punches happen. Sometimes simultaneously.

It’s all part of the charm.

Would We Adopt a Great Dane Again?

Absolutely.

Great Danes aren’t for everyone — they take up space, eat a lot, and come with emotional sensitivity packaged in a very large body. But if you’re looking for a calm, loving, slightly ridiculous companion who thinks you are their entire world, they’re hard to beat.

Claire has brought laughter, chaos, and an enormous amount of love into our home. And while we didn’t plan on adopting her that day, it turns out she was exactly who we needed.

If you’re considering a Great Dane — especially a rescue — we hope this gave you a realistic (and honest) look at life with one.

And if you already have a Dane? You know exactly what we mean.

We’re about three weeks away from packing up our lives, putting most of our things in storage, and setting off for 6–18 months of slow travel. 🚐✨

It feels wild to even type that. Equal parts thrilling and overwhelming. Instead of rushing to book every stop, color-coding routes, or obsessing over how many miles we can cover in a day, we’ve been slowing down and asking better questions — the questions that actually shape what this next chapter will look like.

Because the truth is: preparing for a long stretch of life on the road isn’t just checking boxes. It’s rethinking how you live, what you own, how you work, and how you stay well while chasing the horizon. These questions have sparked long conversations at our kitchen table and on dog walks, and they’re helping us build a foundation we can actually trust once we pull out of the driveway.

Here are the five big ones guiding us right now.

1. How much will this really cost us? 💵

Money is always one of the first things people ask — and honestly, it was the first thing we asked, too.

The cost of RV life isn’t just fuel and campsites. It’s the blend of fixed costs, variable costs, and the occasional “well… that wasn’t in the plan” moment. So we started with a simple comparison:

👉 What does our current bricks-and-sticks life cost?

The average rent for a standard apartment in the U.S. is $1,950 per month as of 2024 (Zillow). In many cities, that number jumps well over $2,200. Add in utilities — which average $300–$400/month for electricity, water, internet, and gas — and most households are sitting around $2,300–$2,600/month before groceries, commuting, insurance, or entertainment.

If you’re living in or near a major city, in a affluent suburb, those prices increase rapidly. So as we stacked up the costs versus extended travel to see the places we’ve always dreamed of via RV, that next to RV life, things got interesting.

Here’s how we’re breaking it down:

Fixed expenses – $4,312

Two 10×20′ storage units for our stuff – $350

RV payment – $685

2025 Ford F-350 payment – $1,450

Insurance – $112

Phone plan & phones –

Starlink – $165

Streaming services & digital tools –

CMASA online high school for our daughter – $1,150

Variable expenses

Campgrounds – anywhere from $0 for boondocking to $70-125+ per night depending on park amenities and location. Staying at nightly, weekly, or monthly rates also makes a significant difference

Fuel – distances matter and if we’re not moving around

Groceries – typically around $1,000/mo, including pets, but depending on our level of busy-ness

Dining out – we often dine out about once a week, whether fast food or a sit down meal somewhere

Activities and excursions – going for a hike has little to no cost (aside from the fuel to get there) but museums,

Stickers, t-shirts, and mementos – we used to buy Christmas ornaments until our tree was overflowing and we considered going on the road…so we’ve switched to collecting stickers and an occasional trip worthy t-shirt to commemorate our travels

The “life happens” bucket

Repairs (statistically, 3 in 5 RVers face at least one major repair per year)

Emergency costs

And yes… the irresistible roadside diner pie

We’ve built a spreadsheet comparing our current monthly bills to our projected travel costs. Even though it won’t be perfect, it gives us a realistic range — and a reminder to build a buffer because surprises are guaranteed.

2. How do we keep up with doctors & wellness? 🏥

Long-term travel makes healthcare a moving target. Ignoring it isn’t an option.

According to the CDC, 6 in 10 U.S. adults live with a chronic condition, which makes staying proactive — even while traveling — essential. Even if you’re perfectly healthy, urgent care visits happen, teeth still need cleaning, and prescriptions don’t refill themselves.

Here’s what we’re setting up before we roll:

Annual physicals, dental cleanings, and vet check-ups before leaving Texas

Telehealth apps that allow visits nationwide

Confirming that our insurance covers out-of-state care

Setting recurring reminders for wellness routines — running, mobility, supplements, hydration

It’s easy to romanticize travel and forget your body in the process, but we want to feel good on the road, not just exist on it.

3. What do we do with all our stuff? 📦

This one has been emotionally heavier than expected. Downsizing sounds simple until you start sorting through closets at 10 PM wondering why you’ve kept a sweater you haven’t worn in eight years.

According to professional organizer Regina Lark, the average American household has over 300,000 items — and most of us only use about 20% of what we own. No wonder it feels overwhelming.

We’re simplifying with three categories:

Keep in storage – Family heirlooms, seasonal clothing, things that truly matter

Sell or donate – Non-essential furniture, décor, unwanted clothes, duplicates of household items

Take with us – Only what fits comfortably in the RV and makes life easier or happier (intentional living at its finest)

It feels like a massive life reset — a chance to strip back to what actually serves us. And honestly, parting with things we’ve outgrown feels like creating space for this next adventure.

4. Can we really work from the road? 💻

This is where RV life either works… or doesn’t.

Millions of Americans now work remotely — in fact, about 27% of U.S. workers work from home full-time, according to McKinsey’s 2024 research. But working from an RV isn’t the same as working from a home office with a fiber connection.

We’ve been testing setups because we know slow travel only works if work works.

Our checklist:

Starlink for reliable internet in rural areas

A backup hotspot (AT&T or Verizon tend to perform best for travelers)

Offline work options when connection dips

Backup “office” options: libraries, coffee shops, co-working spaces

A travel-friendly routine: work mornings, explore afternoons

Within a few hours drive of a major airport (or somewhere our private pilot can fly in and out of!)

So far, we’ve tested our tech both at home and during weekend trips — and that’s already shown us what needs upgrading.

5. What about our Great Dane and cats? 🐾

Traveling with pets is one of our non-negotiables — especially a 140 lb Great Dane who thinks he’s a lap dog.

But it does mean extra planning. And safety.

Here’s the stat that really stopped us in our tracks: More than 1,7 million pets go missing every year in the U.S. (Pet911). That’s a powerful reminder that pet safety has to be intentional.

Our biggest questions have been:

Which parks, trails, and RV resorts truly welcome dogs (not just tolerate them)?

How do we keep them cool, safe, and comfortable while we’re out exploring?

Where are the nearest emergency vets on our route?

What gear do we need (GPS collars, cooling pads, pet-first-aid kit)?

Our pets are family. Their safety, happiness, and comfort are absolutely part of the plan.

Wrapping it up

These five questions aren’t the final list — but they’re the ones shaping our decisions right now. And honestly? Working through them has given us more peace and clarity than any travel booking spreadsheet ever could.

If you’re dreaming about slow travel or long-term RV life, we’d love to know: 👉 What questions would you ask before hitting the road?

Drop them in the comments — we’d love to hear your thoughts.

We know the feeling: you crave that spontaneous, wide-open road trip adventure, but the reality of researching campsites, figuring out routes, and balancing the budget for four people sets in. Before you know it, the excitement fades into overwhelm. Sound familiar?

The best experience gift for a couple that you can give the working professionals in your life isn’t necessarily more stuff—it’s less friction. It’s the gift of instant adventure by eliminating the hassle of planning, booking, and managing logistics. This guide focuses on subscriptions, passes, and high-value gear that simplifies travel and delivers on the promise of finding peace in nature. It’s the ultimate “Less Hustle, More Horizons” collection.

1. The Planning Erasers: Gifts of Access and Simplicity

Are you or someone you know ready to hit the open road but intimidated by the amount of planning needed to take a trip from planning to an amazing reality? The following gifts handle the heavy lifting of research and access, turning a last-minute weekend idea into a doable adventure.

🧭 The National Park Passport: America the Beautiful Pass

The America the Beautiful Pass is the absolute gold standard for any couple or family road-tripping through the US. It grants entry to all U.S. National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands for a full year. Think about the friction this removes: no more fumbling for cash or waiting in line to pay an entrance fee every time you pull up to a scenic overlook or national monument. It typically pays for itself in just a few visits, making it a powerful statement that says, “Go see America—we’ve already paid the entry fee.” We love visiting the National Parks on multiple occasions during our stay, especially in the evening after we’ve arrived and set up camp when the parks clear out from other visitors. Passes are now also available digitally for the first time to simplify purchase.

Why it saves time: Eliminates fee-paying logistics at over 2,000 sites and a huge savings if you visit multiple parks in one year.

Price: $80 USD

Buy a National Park Pass

🏕️ Skip the Crowds: Harvest Hosts or Similar Memberships

One of the biggest pain points for RVers or travelers with campers is overcrowded parks and hard-to-book campgrounds. Gifting a membership like Harvest Hosts eliminates this stress entirely. Harvest Hosts is a network that allows members (who have self-contained RVs/campers) to stay overnight for free at unique locations like wineries, farms, breweries, and attractions.

The experience is priceless: you get a quiet, beautiful stay and support a small business, instantly replacing the stress of last-minute booking with the spontaneity of finding a story-worthy stop. We recommend the All Access option to ensure maximum flexibility.

Why it saves time: Replaces campground hunting with unique, pre-vetted stays.

Price: $99-179, depending on the annual plan you choose

Learn more about Harvest Hosts Memberships (affiliate link)

🎧 The Long-Drive Companion: Audio Entertainment Subscription

Long drives with teens or college-age kids can quickly devolve into separate headphone silence. A premium ad-free audio subscription, like Audible or SiriusXM, turns that necessary road time into a shared family experience. A subscription to Audible means access to epic fantasy series or historical fiction everyone can listen to together, sparking discussions that linger long after you park the rig.

Why it saves time: Keeps everyone connected and entertained without relying on local radio or screen time.

Price: $149

Audible Gift Membership (affiliate link)

2. The Experience Makers: Gifts of Connection and Simplicity

Adventurers like us are driven by the need to reconnect as a couple and a family. These gifts are about making that connection immediate, accessible, and high-quality, fulfilling the desire for “real, doable adventures.”

🧺 The Done-For-You Date: The AmazingCo Mystery Picnic

For the couple feeling overwhelmed by the research it takes to plan a date night, a Mystery Picnic from companies like AmazingCo is a genius solution. You don’t have to plan anything. You solve simple clues around a local area to pick up gourmet food from local purveyors, culminating in a beautiful, pre-selected picnic spot. It’s adventure, quality food, and connection all planned, solving the problem of “where should we go and what should we do?” AmazingCo has lots of other options as well in cities across America (with more coming online soon).

Why it saves time: All research and logistics are handled, delivering instant spontaneity.

Price: $130 for two, including all food

AmazingCo Experiences

🛶 The Water Reset Vouchers: Activity Rental Gift Cards

The couple craves finding “peace in nature” through activities like hiking or paddleboarding. Rather than gifting a pricey paddleboard that has to be stored and transported, gift a voucher specifically for local equipment rentals near a body of water they often visit. This removes the barrier of buying, storing, and transporting bulky gear, making the water-based “reset” immediately doable on a short weekend trip.

Why it saves time: Removes the hassle of gear ownership and storage; enables spontaneous water adventures.

3. High-Ticket Dream Gifts: The Ultimate Memory Security

The brand goal is to “make memories before the kids are fully grown” and “create a lifestyle that feels story-worthy.” The only way to secure a memory is to capture it with quality. These gifts are investments in legacy—the tools to document their simple, beautiful life on the road.

📸 The Versatile Storyteller: The Canon EOS R Series Camera

For the couple or family serious about capturing that “natural light, imperfect but beautiful” aesthetic, a lightweight mirrorless camera is the ideal upgrade from a phone. We recommend two versatile options for travel:

Canon EOS R10: This is the compact, travel-friendly champion. It’s perfect for families stepping up from a phone camera, offering fast autofocus and professional-grade images in a body that’s easy to throw in a daypack. It won’t weigh down the hike, and it’s excellent for capturing candid moments.

Look at Canon EOS R10 Kits on Amazon (affiliate link)

Canon EOS R8: A step up to Full-Frame quality in a lightweight body. If the recipient wants superb low-light performance (for those campfire photos!) and incredible depth of field, the R8 is an investment that ensures every photo is wall-art worthy.

Why it saves time: Superior low-light performance means less time editing noisy photos later.

Check out this Canon EOS R8 body on Amazon (affiliate link)

📹 The Adventure Proof Camera: Insta360 Action Cameras

Travel content is often lost because the gear is too cumbersome or too fragile. The Insta360 line solves this by making capture easy and editing flexible—saving hours of hassle.

Insta360 X5 (360º): The ultimate “set it and forget it” gift. The X5 records in 360 degrees, allowing you to “re-frame” the shot after the fact. This means you don’t miss the moment trying to point the camera; you just enjoy the paddleboard trip or the family hike and decide what to show later. This completely removes the friction of “missing the shot.”

Why it saves time: The X5’s shoot-now-point-later technology removes the pressure of in-the-moment framing.

Check out the Insta360 X5 on Amazon (affiliate link)

Insta360 Ace Pro: If the family primarily wants stunning, traditional 4K video footage (for sharing on Instagram Reels or YouTube) with the best possible low-light performance and a handy flip-up screen for vlogging, the Ace Pro is the rugged, high-quality choice.

Learn more about the Insta360 Ace Pro on Amazon (affiliate link)

Our Final Take

The pressure to plan the perfect trip is real. The items in the “Less Hustle, More Horizon” package are curated specifically to relieve that pressure. Whether it’s a membership that simplifies campsite booking or a camera that makes capturing memories effortless, these are gifts of freedom, connection, and time. By giving them less to worry about, you’re giving them more space to truly embrace wanderlust.

Sometimes, the best stops on a road trip aren’t the ones you plan — they’re the ones that find you.

Back in 2023, we were making our way from Indiana to the Houston area, towing our old travel trailer behind a gas-powered Ram 2500. Anyone who’s traveled long distances in a gas rig knows your range isn’t always ideal — so we needed a good overnight stop somewhere in East Texas before the final stretch.

We’d booked a campground in a nearby area, but when we pulled in, something just didn’t feel right. The sites weren’t level, the surroundings weren’t inviting, and it just wasn’t the kind of stop that gives you that “ahhh” feeling after a long travel day. So, we did what any seasoned RVer does — pulled up our trusty RV apps and started searching for something else nearby.

In Texas terms, “nearby” turned out to be about 30 minutes down the road — and it ended up being one of our favorite accidental discoveries: Avinger, Texas.

Avinger Station RV Park — Small Town, Big Heart

Avinger may only have a population of about 376, but the heart behind this town is huge — and nowhere is that more evident than at Avinger Station RV Park.

When we arrived, we were instantly impressed. The park was brand new, family-owned, and spotless — clearly built with pride and care. The sites were paved, perfectly level, and wide enough to give everyone a little breathing room.

The owner, a former mayor and state representative, lives nearby and couldn’t have been more welcoming. He personally came by to make sure we had everything we needed and even offered local dinner recommendations (more on that in a moment) as well as his own private fishing spot.

The facilities were top-notch — easily some of the nicest we’ve seen in a small-town RV park.

Inside “The Bridge,” you’ll find clean bathrooms, a laundry room, a small workout area, and even a sauna — yes, a sauna in an East Texas RV park! It’s clear the owners made a serious investment to create something special here.

If you’re traveling with pets, you’ll also appreciate the quiet country roads nearby that are perfect for walking the dog (our Great Dane certainly approved).

Avinger Station RV Park

Full hookups, paved sites, great Wi-Fi

Workout room, laundry, and sauna

Pet-friendly with easy walking access

10/10 for cleanliness and friendliness

Where to Eat in Avinger

When we first arrived, the owner suggested a local steakhouse for dinner — and it did not disappoint. Sadly, as of this writing, the restaurant appears to have closed, but it made for one memorable evening on our trip.

If you’re passing through now, we’ve heard good things about Corbett’s Catfish & More, a small-town spot serving up classic Southern comfort food.

We also wanted to check out Harris Mercantile & Trading Co., which looked like a fun mix of antiques, gifts, and local goods, but they weren’t open when we were in town.

Like many East Texas towns, Avinger’s charm lies in its simplicity. There aren’t many restaurants or shops, but the few that exist are full of heart.

Don’t Miss: The Wildflower Trails of Texas

One of the most beautiful times to visit Avinger is late April, during the Wildflower Trails of Texas Festival. The event celebrates the start of wildflower season and connects the towns of Avinger, Hughes Springs, and Linden along a triangle of Highways 49, 155, and 11.

During this time, the roadsides burst into color with bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, and countless other wildflowers. While the exact timing of blooms varies from year to year, the last full weekend in April is usually spectacular.

We didn’t catch the wildflowers on our visit, but it’s definitely something we plan to return for one day — it’s a bucket-list-worthy experience if you love nature drives and photography.

Why Avinger Is Worth the Stop

Avinger may not be a destination you’d circle on a map, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It’s quiet, kind, and full of the kind of people who wave when you drive by.

If you’re traveling along Highway 49 or looking for a peaceful overnight stop between Arkansas and East Texas, Avinger Station RV Park makes a perfect place to recharge before continuing on your way.

Whether you’re crossing the country or just exploring your home state, it’s proof that sometimes, the best adventures happen when plans change.

Save for Later

Our quick detour to Avinger reminded us why we love RV travel so much — it’s not just about where you’re going, but what you find along the way.

Next time you’re traveling through East Texas, skip the crowded campgrounds and give Avinger Station RV Park a try. You might just find yourself falling for this little town the way we did.

There’s something both terrifying and thrilling about starting over. You know exactly how much it’s going to hurt — and you can’t wait anyway.

This February 28th, 2026, we’ll stand side-by-side again at the starting line of The Woodlands Marathon, just a few miles from home. It will be our second marathon together, more than a decade after the first. And though time, age, and life have changed a lot, that familiar flutter in our stomachs feels exactly the same.

Looking Back: Berlin 2013 – The Race That Started It All

Our first marathon was the Berlin Marathon in 2013. We were living in Germany then, juggling work, parenting, and the chaos of everyday life as we prepared to move back overseas to America. Training for a marathon felt like a wild idea — something reserved for “real runners,” not two ordinary parents trying to keep it together.

But Berlin changed everything. The cobblestone streets, the energy, the sound of thousands of feet hitting pavement, friends saying you just had to take it one mile at a time — it was electric. We crossed that finish line side-by-side, exhausted and emotional, realizing we were capable of more than we’d ever imagined.

That race planted a seed. It taught us that endurance isn’t just physical; it’s emotional. It’s about showing up again and again, even when life pulls you in other directions.

Between Miles: What Life Taught Us in the Years After

Life after Berlin didn’t slow down. If anything, it accelerated. We moved back to the United States, raised a growing child, built businesses, and somewhere in the middle of it all, let our running shoes collect dust.

Then came the curveballs — including Tiffany’s sudden cardiac arrest in 2022, a moment that split our lives into before and after. Health stopped being a number or a race pace; it became a daily act of gratitude. Having the opportunity to train for a marathon feels like a miracle.

We realized that running had always been there for us — not as a competition, but as a compass. When everything feels too loud, running brings us back to center. It’s our moving meditation, our therapy, our reminder that we’re still alive, still moving forward.

Why We’re Running Again

So why another marathon? Why now?

Because we missed it — the rhythm of shared miles, the early-morning cool air, the quiet satisfaction of finishing a run together before the rest of the world wakes up. Because it’s something we can do as a team again, side-by-side, literally and figuratively.

This time we’re training for The Woodlands Marathon, our hometown race. It feels like coming full circle — starting and finishing in a community that’s become our home base between adventures. We’ll also be taking our training on the road, weaving long runs into our RV travels over the winter holidays. Few things beat discovering a new trail in a new place, knowing it’s part of the same big journey.

And somewhere in the back of our minds, we can feel that this marathon might spark something bigger — a new project, a new way to share what we’re learning about health, balance, and starting again. But for now, we’re just focused on the miles ahead.

Training Together: Strength in Partnership

Running together has always been our thing. We talk, we plan, we dream mid-stride. There’s something about moving forward in sync that keeps our connection strong.

But let’s be honest — training as a couple isn’t always smooth. Some days one of us feels great while the other is dragging. Sometimes the pace feels too slow, sometimes too fast. The trick is communication and patience: checking in, listening to each other’s bodies, and remembering that the goal is togetherness, not competition.

If you’re thinking about training with your partner, start with grace. Run for the shared experience, not for matching splits. Celebrate progress, not perfection.

Following the Plan – and Learning to Adapt

We’re following the Hal Higdon Novice 1 training program again — a tried-and-true plan we used for Berlin. Back then, we didn’t stick to it as faithfully as we could have (life happened, as it does). This time, we’re embracing it with more balance.

Consistency beats intensity. Some runs will be early-morning slogs; others will feel effortless. The point isn’t to crush every workout — it’s to show up, again and again.

Traveling while training means we’ll log miles in different states, at different altitudes, and in all kinds of weather. One weekend might be a crisp jog through pine forests; another might be a coastal sunrise run somewhere along the Gulf. It’s all part of the adventure.

The Road Ahead: Eyes on The Woodlands Marathon

The Woodlands Marathon holds a special place in our hearts. It winds through tree-lined streets, crosses familiar paths, and finishes along the Waterway — down streets we’ve driven and walked hundreds of times now. This race is home.

By race day, we’ll have spent nearly five months building back the foundation we first laid in Berlin. But this time, it’s not about chasing PRs. It’s about presence — being in the moment, mile after mile, together. Below is the marathon race course (from 2021, but it’s the same route still).

Every Mile Matters

Running a marathon is never just about the marathon. It’s about the person you become on the way there. It’s about discipline, patience, and the quiet confidence that comes from keeping promises to yourself.

For us, this marathon training journey is about rediscovery. It’s proof that even after setbacks, after health scares, after life takes unexpected turns — you can start again. You can rebuild. You can grow stronger than before.

We’re not the same runners we were in 2013, and that’s the beauty of it. Every version of ourselves has a place on this road.

So here we go again — two runners, one goal, and a whole lot of miles between now and the finish line.

Follow along as we share our training journey — the highs, the lows, the long runs, and the lessons.

Ready to start running with us?

Planning an RV trip isn’t just about choosing a destination. It’s about making sure your rig actually fits where you’re going, avoiding low bridges, finding pet-friendly campgrounds, and saving yourself from rookie mistakes that can turn a dream road trip into a headache.

That’s why RV Life Trip Wizard has become our go-to trip planning software. It’s easy to use, built for real RVers, and has saved us from more than one nightmare on the road. Here’s our full review — with the good, the great, and the funny “thank goodness we had Trip Wizard” moments.

Easy RV Trip Planning Software

RV Life Trip Wizard is refreshingly simple. You plug in your starting point and destination, and the software handles the routing in between. The design is modern and intuitive — no clunky menus or confusing steps. Along the way, you select the RV campgrounds you want to stay at along the way, from national and state parks to private resort-style campgrounds, you can find it all. They even recently added Harvest Host locations.

You can use Trip Wizard on your PC or laptop to plan big trips on a big screen, or keep it handy on your phone while on the road for navigation. Everything syncs automatically, so you’ll never lose track of your route.

Real Reviews From Real RVers

The app doesn’t just give you maps. It gives you insider information from fellow RV travelers who’ve been there before.

The reviews go beyond “nice place” or “bad bathrooms.” They cover what RVers actually care about:

Are the sites level or will you be stacking blocks all night?

Is it mostly full-time campers and cars up on blocks or is it a nicely kept property with folks coming and going?

Do they really allow big dogs, or just say they’re “pet-friendly”?

It’s like having a caravan of RV friends scouting ahead and reporting back.

Smart Campground Filters

One of the best features of RV Life Trip Wizard is its powerful filters. You can narrow your search for exactly what matters to you:

Pet-friendly campgrounds (because Fido comes first)

Pull-thru sites (for those “no thanks to backing up” days and quick travel stops)

Sewer hookups (goodbye surprise dump station runs)

Campground type (filter for national parks, state parks, COE campgrounds, or private campgrounds)

This makes it easy to find exactly what you need without wasting time clicking through websites that may or may not fit your setup.

Safe RV Routes (No Low Bridges, No Dirt Roads)

This one’s a lifesaver — literally.

On a trip through South Dakota, Trip Wizard warned us away from what looked like a perfectly good shortcut. Our GPS, on the other hand, tried to send us 27 miles down a dirt road with our fifth wheel in tow. Twenty-seven miles of bone-rattling gravel. Granted the main road wasn’t a whole lot better – but it was paved.

Because we’d entered our rig’s height, weight, and length into Trip Wizard, it automatically adjusted our route to avoid sketchy roads, low bridges, and impossible turns, as well as give us a warning on the map for any routes we might consider taking. It saved us hours of stress — and possibly our axles.

Turn-by-Turn RV Navigation

Planning is only half the battle. The RV Life GPS app works hand-in-hand with Trip Wizard to give you turn-by-turn navigation built for RVs.

That means no more wondering if your exit leads to a 10’ bridge when you’re 13’ tall. No more white-knuckle moments hoping the road actually stays paved. Just calm, confident directions on streets that semi-trucks are also safe driving.

Affordable and Worth Every Penny

RV Life Trip Wizard is reasonably priced, especially compared to the costs of a single trip gone wrong. A night at the wrong campground or a last-minute reroute could cost more than a full year of the software.

Even better, you can grab it at a 25% discount at our exclusive link: https://bit.ly/ewrvlife

(Why pay full price if you don’t have to?)

Why We Recommend It

After using RV Life Trip Wizard on multiple trips, here’s what we’ve learned:

It saves time and stress.

It helps us find better campgrounds.

It keeps us off dangerous or sketchy roads.

It makes RV travel easier and more fun.

In short: it’s the one app we won’t travel without.

Final Thoughts

RVing is supposed to be fun. The less time you spend stressing over logistics, the more time you spend enjoying the journey. RV Life Trip Wizard gives you peace of mind, better routes, and better campgrounds — which means better trips, period.

The Blowout We Didn’t See Coming

Just as we pulled into the beautiful, scenic RV campground office in Matagorda Bay, TX, a man stood on the side of the road waving his arms like his life depended on it.

“Wait! Your tire!” he shouted.

I looked at Stefan, confused. But then we stopped and got out — and that’s when we saw it.

A full-blown (literally) tire blowout on our fifth wheel. Shredded rubber, bent steel belts, and a mess no RV traveler ever wants to see. In the end, we were really lucky because it was only the tire. But it could have been much worse.

We’ve had our share of road bumps over the years, but nothing quite like this. It was a wake-up call, a reminder that even when you plan well, things happen. And while it was inconvenient, it was also one of the most important lessons of our RV life so far.

The Problem: Wrong Tools, Wrong Assumptions

Here’s the thing: we had a spare tire. We even had a Ford F-350 jack. And that’s when my first mistake came in:

I said, “The truck has a jack — we’re fine.”

Technically true. But as we quickly found out, the factory jack that comes with the F-350 is far from ideal when you’re trying to lift a 33-foot fifth wheel loaded with gear and food.

Long story short? It wasn’t going to cut it.

We were lucky the campground staff came to the rescue with their own auto jack so we could get back on the road. But it stuck with us: what if this had happened on the side of a remote Texas highway, with no campground office, no kind stranger, no tools to do the job?

The Solution: A Tractor Supply Run

Matagorda Bay is beautiful, but it’s remote. Amazon Prime wasn’t going to save us in two days. The nearest real option was Bay City, about 30 minutes away, where a Tractor Supply sat like a beacon of hope.

And there it was: the only jack in stock in a 50-mile radius — a Torin Big Red Stubby 20 Ton Hydraulic Bottle Jack.

We immediately bought it for pickup in-store and got ready to take a little road trip. Once we arrived, we were able to request curbside pickup, load it quickly into the F-350, and it’s been with us ever since.

Why the Torin Big Red?

I’m not usually one to rave about tools (I leave that to Stefan), but this jack deserves it. In his exact words, “It lifts like a dream.”

Here’s what sold us (and why it’s now standard gear for every trip):

Heavy-duty lifting power: 20 tons = 40,000 lbs. More than enough to lift our loaded fifth wheel or truck.

Compact & stable: Its stubby profile means it fits under the RV axle or frame even on gravel, dirt, or uneven ground but it’s also height adjustable.

Built to last: Industrial-welded, forged alloy steel construction. Leak-free, rugged base, and tested to meet ASME PASE safety standards.

Safe & smooth: Built-in overload valve, corrosion-resistant hydraulic oil, and glide-action pump make it easy to use without overextending.

Versatile: Works for cars, trucks, farm equipment, and heavy-duty machinery. If it needs lifting, this jack can probably handle it.

➡️ Check current price & availability of the Torin Big Red 20 Ton Jack on Amazon (affiliate link)

Lessons Learned About RV Safety & Tools

That day in Matagorda Bay was frustrating, sure. But it was also clarifying. Here are the big takeaways we’d pass on to any RVer:

1. Don’t Rely on Factory Jacks

Truck jacks are designed for emergencies, not for lifting multi-ton rigs. Always carry a heavy-duty alternative. We would have gone for a 12-ton jack had it been available – but it simply wasn’t. So now we’re overprepared in case there is a next time.

2. Pack the Right Gear

A quality jack is just one part of an RV safety toolkit. Add:

Wheel chocks

A torque wrench

Spare fuses

Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

Roadside emergency kit (reflective triangles, gloves, flashlight)

3. Practice Before You Need It

Don’t wait for a blowout to figure out how to change a tire on your RV. Practice at home or in a safe spot so you know exactly where to place the jack and how to handle the spare.

4. Maintain Your Tires

Check them regularly and look for irregularities or damage. Blowouts often result from under-inflation, overloading, or age-related issues. Keep an eye on tire pressure before every travel day, and replace them proactively.

5. Stay Calm & Safe

If a blowout happens on the road, keep a steady hand on the wheel, slow down gradually, and find a safe spot to pull over. Then deal with the tire.

The Happy Ending

Once we were back to the rig, we put the new jack to the test. Discount Tire sold us a new tire (there wasn’t much to patch up), and Stefan slid the Torin Big Red under the axle. In minutes — even on gravel — he had the rig lifted and the tire swapped. No twisting, no sweating, no frustration.

It was the kind of confidence-builder every RVer should have: knowing you can handle a roadside problem without relying on luck or strangers.

Why This Jack Lives in Our Truck Now

The Torin Big Red now rides with us on every trip, tucked in the back of the F-350, ready for the day we hope never comes again.

Even if it’s the truck tire itself that blows, we wouldn’t dream of using that flimsy factory jack ever again.

It’s not just a tool. It’s peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

If you travel in an RV — whether you’re a part-timer like us or full-time on the road — invest in a reliable jack. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you desperately need it. And then it’s too late.

We were lucky. You don’t want to rely on luck.

Because at the end of the day, the right tools don’t just fix problems — they keep adventures going.
