WHAT’S HOT in 2012

  • Virtualization – Servers and Desktops.
  • Windows 8 – Major changes to the User Interface.  Very mobile centric.  Will organizations skip this like they did Vista and Windows 7?
  • Ultrabooks – Long battery life.  Small form factor.
  • Continued movement to the Cloud – Security and Privacy implications.
  • Tablets (iPad and Kindle Fire) – Great battery life.  Use in Bible Translation?
  • Voice Recognition (Siri) – Use in Bible Translation?  Use in Street evangelism?
  • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) – Cost savings and increased client satisfaction.

WHAT’S NOT in 2012

  • BYOD – This item is HOT but it also has NOT issues.  Can be some major security and privacy implications.
  • Physical Media – Downloaded software/apps, Backups to the Cloud or Virtual Tape Arrays, Dropbox, Amazon Cloud/iCloud.  Are we becoming too reliant on the Cloud?
  • Wired Networking – Wifi and 3g/4g taking over.  How do we get our users to understand wired networks have greater stability, speed and security?
  • Social Overload – TVs with Social Networks/Skype, Facebook/Google+/Twitter/Pinterest/etc.   How does this impact the organizations image?  What about privacy?
  • Technology Understanding of Next Generation – They are users of technology but many no longer understand nor care to understand how it works.  High Expectations with Minimal Understanding leads to Frustration.
