Like some of you, I’m annoyed by car alarms, or as I think they should be called, car false alarms. In all my years, I’ve never heard an car alarm sounding for a proper reason. The only anecdote I have of a car alarm working properly came from a friend in high school. At that time someone through rock through his car’s window while it sat in his driveway. In the short time it took to get a look at the scene, the perp had already fled. In other words, the alarm told him immediately that his window was broken, whereas otherwise he would have had to wait until the morning to figure that out.

So I have a proposal. I think, that when a car is sounding an alarm for no good reason, it should be socially acceptable to give it a reason. I think that it should be allowed — if not encouraged — to throw rocks, bricks, or other suitably heavy, low value items through the windows of cars with annoyingly inaccurate alarms. That’s a fair response, right?
