On May 17, As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis appeared in Vista Superior Court for a bail hearing. Lambesis is currently facing charges on allegedly attempting to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife earlier this month, and in this new hearing, Lambesis' defense lawyer blamed steroid use for the singer's actions.

Lambesis' defense lawyer, Thomas Warwick, told the court that the As I Lay Dying singer had taken to weightlifting, eating healthier and became a spokesperson for nutritional supplements. Somewhere along the line, Lambesis began using steroids to enhance his bodybuilding habit, and according to his lawyer, the steroids are to blame for Lambesis' erratic behavior.

A few months after firing longtime frontman Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots have returned to the scene with Linkin Park's Chester Bennington as their new singer. The revamped band performed over the weekend at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles, in addition to releasing the new song 'Out of Time.'

Bennington says of the union, "I've loved STP since I was 13 years old and they've had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I've continued to work on new music with LP."

Nine Inch Nails Welcome Robin Finck Back to the Band

Just a couple days after Eric Avery backed out of Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rockers have recruited former member Robin Finck to rejoin the group. NIN mastermind Trent Reznor revealed the news in a tweet to his fans.

Eric Avery, best known as the founding bassist of Jane's Addiction, decided to exit Nine Inch Nails after being announced as a new member of the revived group earlier this year. Avery stated he was overwhelmed by the band's touring commitments.

Chicago's Riot Fest Announces Initial 2013 Lineup

The initial list of bands playing Chicago's 2013 Riot Fest has been unveiled and it features a number of prominent punk, rock, alternative and metal acts. Fall Out Boy and Blink-182 are two of the three headliners, with the third act a mystery as of now.

The three-day event, taking place Sept. 13-15 in Chicago's Humboldt Park, will also feature such bands as Violent Femmes, Motorhead, Rancid, AFI, Sublime With Rome, Pierce the Veil and the Devil Wears Prada, among dozens of other acts.

As I Lay Dying have officially dropped off their upcoming North American tour with Killswitch Engage, and the news comes as no surprise as AILD frontman Tim Lambesis remains incarcerated on alleged murder-for-hire charges.

The band made the announcement on their Facebook page, stating: "In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage. Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time."

The iconic Black Sabbath / Rainbow / Dio / Heaven & Hell vocalist gave his all to music for over 50 years before succumbing to stomach cancer in 2010. To celebrate the live of Ronnie and to mourn his passing, the singer's widow, Wendy Dio, released a tribute to her late husband.

No vocalist in rock and metal history can claim a career quite like Ronnie James Dio's. After playing in various projects including Elf, former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore recruited Dio to front Rainbow in 1975. The singer's booming voice put himself in the periphery of Black Sabbath, who invited Dio to take the place of Ozzy Osbourne after the 'Prince of Darkness' was fired by Tony Iommi in 1979.

Two weeks after the tragic passing of legendary Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, the band has announced a memorial celebration to honor his legacy. The event will take place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on May 23.

Hanneman died on May 2 at the age of 49. Despite a battle with necrotizing fasciitis that was apparently contracted from spider bite, the actual cause of death was revealed to be alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver.

Nine Inch Nails have just lost their new bassist. Eric Avery, who formerly played the four-string for Jane's Addiction, has left Nine Inch Nails after feeling "overwhelmed" by the band's upcoming tour schedule.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor made the announcement of Avery's involvement with the band in February of this year, but just as quickly as Avery joined Nine Inch Nails, he's pulled out of NIN's touring plans, leaving a vacancy in the group's lineup. Avery broke the news publicly via his personal Facebook account, making it clear that his decision is a bittersweet one.

It's been a tumultuous and troubled time in Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin's life. Within the past two years, the rock singer has faced charges related to drug possession, tax evasion, public intoxication and driving with a suspended license, but this latest charge is perhaps Scantlin's most serious allegation to date.

According to TMZ, Scantlin was taken into custody on the afternoon of May 13 after an alleged domestic disturbance between the Puddle of Mudd frontman and his ex-wife, Jessica. The rocker apparently acted violently against his former bride, which was witnessed by a number of people. Scantlin reportedly shook his wife in an aggressive manner and dragged her by her shirt and/or arm.

After previously announcing that their February show in Las Vegas would be their only North American gig of 2013, Linkin Park couldn't pass up the opportunity to headline the upcoming 2013 Sunset Strip Music Festival in Los Angeles.

The event, which has featured headliners Motley Crue, Slash and Ozzy Osbourne in the past, take place every summer on the famed Sunset Strip, with multiple bands playing at several venues and outdoors. This year's festival takes place Aug. 1-3, with Linkin Park performing on Aug. 3.

The band Slayer announced in a press release today (May 10) that lead guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was a legendary figure in heavy metal, died of "alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver."

Hanneman's passing was announced on May 3, prompting early speculation that prior health issues brought on by a necrotizing fasciitis infection that resulted from a spider bite may have been to blame.

A public memorial is to be held, the date for which has not yet been confirmed.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Divorce documents show the lead singer of heavy metal band As I Lay Dying and the wife he allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill had a mostly amicable split, and she expressed no fears for her safety.

But Meggan Lambesis, wife of Tim Lambesis, said in the court papers obtained by The Associated Press that recent changes in his behavior had her worried about his ability to care for their three adopted children.

Law enforcement officials said they arrested 32-year-old Tim Lambesis after he tried to hire an undercover detective he believed was a hit man. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, two days after he was taken into custody at a store in Oceanside.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) - The lead singer of Grammy-nominated heavy metal band As I Lay Dying was arrested Tuesday in Southern California as authorities said he tried to hire an undercover detective to kill his estranged wife.

Tim Lambesis, 32, was arrested at a retail business in Oceanside, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

The statement said detectives received information Thursday that Lambesis had solicited someone to kill his wife, who lives in nearby Encinitas. A task force from several law enforcement agencies quickly launched an investigation that led to the arrest.

The department would give no further details on the investigation.

As I Lay Dying formed in San Diego in 2000 and has released six albums including 2007's "An Ocean Between Us," which reached No. 8 on Billboard's charts. A track from the album was nominated for a Grammy for top metal performance.

It was not clear whether Lambesis had hired an attorney, and a phone message seeking comment left at a number listed in his name was not immediately returned.

According to its website, the band is scheduled to tour the country with several other metal acts starting later this month.

Unfortunately, Finnish rockers HIM have had to axe their North American tour due to frontman Ville Valo's health woes. The slew of dates were meant to kick off this week in Los Angeles, but it was announced in a press release that Valo has been diagnosed with a bout of severe asthma and presumptive pneumonia. IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A defamation lawsuit against Sammy Hagar filed by a former Playboy bunny who claims he fathered her child has been dismissed, and the former Van Halen frontman is pleased with the result, his attorney said Monday.

U.S. District Judge Linda Reade ruled April 30 that Hagar did not defame the woman - identified as Jane Doe in court documents - when he accused her in his 2011 memoir of falsely naming him as the baby's father in order to extort money.

"We're certainly gratified by the result and we hope this means that it's all over," said Hagar's attorney, Wesley Kinnear of San Francisco. "It's difficult to be involved in litigation like this. It was a surprise to him. And he's very pleased that the judge ruled the way that she did."

MANILA, Philippines (AP) - Members of the American rock band Aerosmith have arrived in Manila for their first ever concert in Southeast Asia.

Lead vocalist Steven Tyler told journalists jostling for pictures Monday that "I can't wait to play, I can't believe you guys."

Aerosmith is performing in Manila on Wednesday, with tickets costing up to 20,000 pesos ($480).

The band's show in Indonesia was canceled, with promoter Ismaya Live citing safety concerns. It was not clear if the decision was connected to an alleged bomb plot targeting Myanmar's embassy in Jakarta.

Aerosmith began its Asia-Pacific tour in April in New Zealand and Australia.
