Nokia N95 release date rumours

Theres been some speculation on mobile phone forums in the last few weeks that the N95 will be released a lot earlier than the expected release date of March 2007.
In October there was furious discussion about the N95 being available on 31st October as one online store had listed it as expecting stock on that day. Of course October 31st came and went with no sign of any stock availability.
More recently, another online store announced it would have it available in early January. This was widely scoffed at and believed to be a scam to tie you in to a pre-order.

In my humble opinion, I think we're likely to see a lot more hype about the phone just prior to its release. I'll be looking out for more official press from Nokia and also more previews and even pre-release reviews to get an indication of an imminent full release of the phone.
Also, I'll be keeping an eye on ebay to see if anyone starts selling them (genuinely). They often have early availability in Hong kong and Singapore and are offered as imports.

Yes, amazing for a phone thats rumoured not to be available until March 2007, the M95 has already won 1 award.

New headphones for nokia N95?

Check out these great looking headphones next to the N95. I've not seen these headphones before but they look amazing.
I'm hoping at least one of them is some kind of bluetooth adaptor using A2DP so that you can use your own headphones.

N95 detailed specs and features

I just came across this page at Rainbow town which gives an incredibly detailed list of the technical specifications and the software features of the N95. I've not seen such a detailed list as this even on the Nokia site itself (although I guess this list must have originated from Nokia).

Its not all about megapixels

Whilst I'm keen to get my hands on a 5MP camera-phone, I'm always keen to know more about the usability of cameras on new phones before getting rid of my old phone.
For me the camera on a phone is quite an important feature. I use it quite a lot, mainly to take snaps of my kids.
The dilemma I have though is that although its nice to have those extra megapixels I really need a camera that works quickly. I need to be able to pull it out of my pocket and take a pic within a couple of seconds. Phones that take time to load up the camera app and then have a shutter lag are just no good.
I've recently got rid of my old Samsung D900 which had a 3MP camera and got a Sony Ericsson W850i instead with 2MP instead. The Samsung just took forever to take a pic and by the time it had my daughter had generally moved from doing whatever funny thing she was doing.
The SE is super-fast and feels great when taking a pic. You can whip it out of your pocket and take a great pic in about 3 seconds.
So....I'm looking forward to seeing if the N95 scores in the usability department as well as in the megapixels department.

T3 magazine article and review

Theres a 3 page spread of the N95 in November's issue of T3 magazine (british version). If you don't know the mag then I highly recommend it for your monthly portion of gadget goodness.
Anyway, some interesting points that the mag mentions are:

- the 5MP camera works in conjunction with the satnav so you'll be able to 'tag' your pics with the location they were taken

- it has built-in stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack

- as well as a Flickr uploader it also has Amazon's MobiPocket Reader

T3 are promising a full review next month and I'll be posting the best bits from that here on the N95 review blog!

Which browser for N95?

From this picture it looks like the N95 uses the same browser (based on Opera I think..?) as the nokia E61. This browser is by far the most usable I've ever tried in a mobile phone. Although you don't get a full screen, its pretty easy to scroll around and you can have full page 'snapshots' to navigate backwards and forwards through the history tree.
Whether it works just as well without the great QWERTY keyboard on the E61 remains to be seen...

AllAbout Symbian preview

Theres a nice preview of the N95 over at AllAboutSymbian.com.
I wouldn't go as far as calling it a review as I get the impression it was just played with at a show, but its a comprehensive description of its features, its look and feel, its button layout and its software inclusions.
It doesn't look as bulky as I was imagining it to be and theres a photo of it next to a Nokia E50 (a pretty slim phone) and it doesn't look *that* wide...

Nokia N95 Review from Pocket-Lint

Heres a review from one of my favourite UK based gadget and technology sites, Pocket-Lint.co.uk.
The review gives a good overall synopsis of the phone whilst not going into any real detail. I guess they only had the phone for a few minutes at a launch show and so weren't really able to put it through its paces.
The general impression of the review is that Nokia have managed to cram a lot of features into the N95 whilst keeping it a compact size.
