Since the rise in popularity of Android handsets, and the arrival of the mighty iPhone, Nokia have seen their stock plummet. Compared to iOS and Android, Nokia’s Symbian operating system is seen as being extremely sluggish and out of date. In one of the biggest stories in smartphones from the last year, Nokia announced that they would be adopting the Windows Phone 7 operating system in all their upcoming mobile phones, presumably as a way to revive their flagging reputation.

The first Nokia phones to feature Windows Phone 7 are thought to be arriving later this year and the Finnish firm are staking £80 million in their success. According to reports in Marketing Magazine, Nokia are planning a six month, eight figure marketing campaign in an effort to put the company, and the Microsoft operating system, up there with the major players in the smartphone world.

Nokia has been struggling to keep its head above water for a number of years. Their profits and market share have been falling rapidly, and forecasts have suggested that the company many not even break even this year, potentially resulting in the loss of over 7000 jobs. The marketing campaign, set to begin in October, is thought to be Nokia’s last chance to reverse their fortunes.

The success of the Windows Phone 7 Nokia devices could be crucial to the success of both brands. Sales of Windows Phone 7 handsets has been described as ‘disappointing’ since their launch in 2010, with some estimated that they are well underneath the 700,000 mark (the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million handsets in just 3 days). Only time will tell if the partnership between Nokia and Windows Phone 7 will be a match made in heaven, or send both brands falling into the abyss.

Two different mobile manufacturers, one of which that was bought by HP. The Palm Pre 2 is a modern smartphone with a touchscreen, a good user interface and fast processor, which make it obviously superior to the Nokia N96.

In terms of the Nokia N96 OS, the Symbian OS 9.3, S60 rel. 3.2 isn’t bad, it does have its advantages such as having Nokia Maps.

The HP webOS 2.0 device doesn’t have as much as the Nokia device, there are no built-in games. The 1150mAh Palm Pre 2 battery can last 130 hours more on stand mode but the processor does take up extensive battery power.

Moving to the connectivity section, the Nokia N96 does have UPnP technology which the Palm device lacks but it beats the Nokia in the Bluetooth section with 2.1 while the latter having 2.0.

Both devices have internal storage of 16GB, the Palm device cannot accept a memory card but the Nokia N96 does have 16GB also and can still take a memory card.

The Nokia N96 does cost cheaper then the Palm Pre 2. In conclusion, it all depends on what you are going to use the device for.

The Nokia devices has advanced alot these days, the leaks provide much information but the official announcements are mush better. The Nokia N9 was approved by FCC this week. More and more devices are being approved and manufactured each day. Today I ask the question, what would you buy between the Nokia N96 or the first device that ever had Symbian^3 OS, the Nokia N8?

It may sound as if this question doesn’t make sense because it is classified as a super-phone by some and a useless device ever made judging on the app bugs as well as the the first batch that had issues when they left China and Finland.

There is another option where you can keep on updating the Nokia N96 software but yet again the Nokia N6 doesn’t offer HD recording, HD viewing and a 12 megapixel camera. Why not see the selection?

When the Nokia X7 is released, the new Symbian Anna will also be released, another quality update for the Nokia N8. Considering the Nokia N96 updates, there isn’t much support for it, it has been left alone in the dark jungle.

You may try to make some of the issues covered by trying to download apps that will substitute atleast half of what the Nokia N8 consists, then surely, the Nokia N8 sales will drop.

Don’t forget the popular Angry Birds games that you can download on the Nokia N8 from the Ovi Store, the Nokia 96 doesn’t offer that as it doesn’t have touchscreen capabilities at all.

The conclusion is pretty simple, the Nokia N8 is the successor here today for me, what about you?

The downfall is, its not rare to find a slider mechanism for that but not every technician has it or knows how to fix it.

iSync is a one of the important must-have application for the Mac users wanting to synchronize their N96 devices with their pc’s

Foonz is a cool app and useful for the business people, it makes your life easy with fast group calling and messaging.

JoikuSpot

JoikuSpot is an app that turns your N96 into a wi-fi hotspot, the advantage is that it allows the user to make it a secure connection.

This app has a virtual world where the user can create a 3D avatar and interact with hundreds of thousands of people around the globe.
