Hey, who knows, maybe Pub and Herb get murdered next week and the series continues on following the exploits of this Skybell Industries crew running around trying to not get caught for cover-ups and homicides.  I’ve been watching a lot of Law and Order lately. Making assumptions gets everyone killed, detectives.

Also, why are the “easy” pages always the ones that take foreeever to do? You wouldn’t believe how long this page took, you really wouldn’t.

The Skybell crew returns! And they’re all, like – what HAPPENED?! And stuff.

You may have noticed that there’s an H where a D used to be. Originally, that long-neck’s name (totally specist, by the way) was Hutch. Very last minute it changed to Dutch, and was published that way. But I keep calling him Hutch, it’s kind of his name. So I changed it. His name is Hutch. Apologies for any confusion, this comic flies by the seat of its pants sometimes. On the days it wears pants.

*If you saw the title ‘Two Words’ and thought ‘SUCK IT!’ we can be rasslin’ friends! Yay!

Okay, so, I originally wasn’t planning to update this week*. I wanted a “week off” to A.) Work ahead, B.) Start book prep and C.) Because I just finished an OGN dang nabbit!

But I felt really guilty. I LOATHE missing updates so HERE YOU GO! One of two mazes I’m doing for the aforementioned book (the other will be exclusive, and much harder!) Epilogue will start next week as normal. Been having a blast drawing it too. Working with an ensemble cast is going to be soooo much fun…. ahem, spoiler?

When I started Nomad Tofu back in 2009* I had no idea what it’d become. I never expected this story to turn into the graphic novel it became, nor the series it’s becoming. I’ve learned so much creating these comics and I’ve given up a lot to make it happen. It’s been flipping hard. It took over THREE LONG YEARS. But it’s also been a childhood ambition come true and it’s exhilarating to think that it is only just beginning. If you’ve been with the comic since the start I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making it swell. Truly, there’s not much on the planet that can make your innards sing like someone dropping a note saying they loved a page, or didn’t expect a twist. That alone makes every long night worth it. Ten fold, even. And If you’re just joining us, WELCOME! Go read the comic! I’ve been told it’s pretty rad. Or at least amusingly odd.

*I actually started drawing the comic in December ’08 even though it didn’t debut until April ’09. It was also simply titled ‘Pub’ back then. It didn’t turn into Tofu until a few months later.

This comic kind of surprised me. One of those instances where I was planning to do one thing but the characters had their own agenda. Maybe I’ll talk about it at a future panel discussion or something someday. And yeah, it’s a bit late this week, sorry! Though if you FOLLOW THE TWITTER(!) you could’a saw a penciled version on time!

So over the weekend my eldest sister had her first baby, officially making my folks grandparents and me an uncle. She’s a feisty, fiery Celtic warrior princess named Finleigh Patricia and we couldn’t be happier for them. Babbbbiiiiieeeessssssszzzzz!!

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend and ate lots and lots of bad stuff! Not including chocolate, which is actually pretty good for ya’… well anyway.

Nomad Tofu is 3 years old today! Let’s celebrate with a comic sporting vague influence from a certain book turned movie series featuring a girl with a bow. You know the one, unless you’re from like 2007! In which case, let’s talk – preferably in your DeLorean.

(The girl in question is Barkana, Herb’s once possible girly-friend?)

So, that happened.

On Friday Nomad Tofu will be 3 years old. In a way it pains me that it’s taken 3 years and this story still isn’t quite finished, but Pub slamming into the mountain has always been the crescendo in my head, so in a small way, it is. In any event, yeah, Friday. Something might pop up. Whoooo knooooows.

I had the distinct and wonderful pleasure of doing a guest comic for Mike Maihack’s fantastic series, Cleopatra in Spaaaace! I even got to help name an established character! Go see!!

SNAP!

The idea for this twist actually came waaay back during this comic, when the notion of diplomacy came up the first time. Cobbling the two, I think it’s fair to say that my entire political career has been laid out and to rest. Thank goodness, I’d much rather draw comics.
