The 29-year-old joined the club in 2007 from Hereford United, and has scored 30 goals since his arrival – 20 last season and ten so far this season.

He said on his clubs website: “The team has had a very good spell since I signed and I’m looking forward to more good times in the near future.”

The former Doncaster left-winger was a free agent and is to make his debut in a friendly against Didcot Town on Wednesday.

Nelthorpe is glad to be getting a game after his time at Doncaster: “I haven’t really been given a chance at Doncaster. Hopefully if I do well in training here I’ll be given a chance to play, “ he said.

“I am looking forward to it here.”

The Ryman League Division One North club’s chairman Peter Waller was thrilled to confirm the announcement after a difficult selection process involving multiple applicants:

“Having to appoint a new manager in mid-season is always very difficult.

“I was delighted that the number of applicants reached well into double figures and the club’s potential was evident to all those who applied. My thanks go to all those who applied for the position and I wish them well.

“Both of them know a lot of good, young players who just want the chance to play Ryman football. We think the two together will make the perfect team for Potters Bar Town.”

Widdrington wants 22-year-old Clohessy to stay at Salisbury for the rest of the season but expects a lot of interest from other clubs.

“He’s done ever so well. We can’t be so arrogant to think that we’re the only club to be interested,” he said.

In his three month stint at the club, Clohessy has scored two goals, but not sure where he wants to play in the future.

“I’m going back to Gillingham on Monday and will sit down and speak [to Stimson],” he said.

“Obviously I want to play the highest level I can play and push on, I’ve just turned 22.

“We have been speaking to Sean and to Mark Stimson at Gillingham [manager],” Widdrington said in a Radio interview.

“His pedigree is even higher than Gillingham. He had a lot of time at Arsenal as a young lad, you can see the way he plays football. He wants to attack and that’s his best line of defence.

“I’d love to take him until the end of the season. His application in training is excellent.”

Clohessy has played near 50 games for Gillingham and feels he’s impressed his boss.

“In all the games I’ve played I’ve worked my hardest. I didn’t leave anything in the locker,” he added.

“I’m very pleased indeed, I’ll say more at the news conference on Thursday,” said the 54-year-old ex-Bolton Wanderers manager, Allardyce.

The club released a statement on its website that simply said: “Rovers are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager.”

The new manager will be unveiled officially at 4pm tomorrow (Thursday). Allardyce has been out of work since being sacked as the manager of Newcastle United.

Allardyce takes over from Paul Ince who was removed from the post just 17 games in to his Blackburn career, complete with a dire run of 11 straight games without a win that has resulted in the team languishing in the relegation zone.

The move to appoint Allardyce comes as a surprise to many as he was widely tipped to take over at Sunderland.

A highly successful manager, Allardyce’s tough time at Newcastle was preceded by eight great years at the helm of Bolton, taking them to the Premier League, the Carling cup final 2004 and the Uefa Cup for the first time in their history in 2005.

Former Blackburn striker Kevin Gallacher told the BBC: “It is not a surprise choice.

“Blackburn needs someone who can put the club back together again and I think he can do that.”

At Bolton he was renowned for innovative thinking, using scientific techniques to keep players fit.

Graeme Souness, had also been linked with the job but had already said the job was not for him.

“I’m afraid you are talking to the wrong man,” Souness told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph newspaper.

“I don’t know anything and have had no contact at all from Blackburn Rovers. I’m not your man, I can definitely say that.”

Brabin said: “The ball is rolling in terms of negotiations with Scott.

“When January comes and it’s D-Day we’ll be fighting tooth and nail to keep him at the club.”

Peterborough are happy to sell the player, but they won’t settle for much less than the six-figure sum they paid Cambridge in February, and they reportedly have received two offers for the player from two league two sides.

Brabin says the striker wants to stay with Cambridge: “He desperately wants to stay, we’re desperate to keep him, he’s enjoying his football again,” added Brabin.

Rendell has netted 4 goals in six games since moving to Cambridge in November.

Murphy will not be able to play for Stevenage until January, but has joined the club till the end of the season.

“This is a fresh start for me, I think it’s a good time to go,” said Murphy.

“I am sure I will miss Cork and I’d like to thank the fans for their wonderful support, but this is a chance to win a full-time deal in England.”

Brindley’s appointment comes as the club tries to avoid slipping in to administration.

“It has been a difficult few days and I feel very sorry for Steve…Everyone needs to pull together for the good of the club, it may seem bleak right now but things will improve,” said Brindley

As well as Bull, six players from the squad were sacked as a result of cutbacks.

“We face a tricky time on and off the field, but if I can help the club stay in business and remain competitive in the non-league pyramid I will have done my bit,” said Brindley.

“I love the game and I enjoy working here. In the difficult times that we all find ourselves in, I didn’t want to be out of work and I think I can help the club.”

Peterborough officials attended the FA Sanctions and Registration Commission today over an alleged breaching of Rule C2(a). The team strongly denied the charge of approaching a player that is still under a written contractual agreement.

The commission agreed with the team that the case could not be proven without written proof.
