A Unique Approach to Homelessness/Near Homelessness

One Coordinator, twelve partner agencies, working together for a common purpose: to provide support to those ready to make some positive changes in their lives.

By bringing the strengths and expertise of each agency to one table, the STHT can facilitate tailor made strategies that enable our clients to reach their personal bests.

Whether it is addiction, mental illness, perpetual evictions, or any other major life issue that weigh down our clients, when they are motivated to make some positive changes, we are there to support them.          

Position description:

Facilitates in providing basic living skills through explicit instructions and direct experience which may include but not be limited to:

• Household Cleaning and maintaining
• Household budgeting
• Personal hygiene
• Basic meal preparation including but not limited to: budgeting, nutritional information, shopping, safe food handling, cooking, and safe food storage.
• Facilitates/encourages/mentors volunteerism
• Encourage citizenship, community pride and being a good neighbor
• Encourages and facilitates independence and problem solving

Administrative duties as required such as record keeping, reporting, documentation maintenance, and minute taking.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or GED

·         Post-secondary preferred, experience will be recognized as possible equivalency

·         First Aid, Safe food handling, WHIMIS and non- violent crisis intervention considered assets, or must be willing to take within probationary period.

·         Knowledge of local community resources and barriers/issues prevalent with Fort McMurray’s homeless population are assets and will be required with position.

Remuneration/Hours:

20 hours per week at

$22 per hour plus 4%

YMCA Community Programs Department

The YMCA is a charitable, mission based organization dedicated to the development of thousands of people on spirit, mind and body. The YMCA of Wood Buffalo Community Programs is seeking a dynamic individual that will provide effective supervision and leadership in direction the overall delivery of the Community Program Branch programs: Immigrant Settlement Services, Community Connections, Temporary Foreign Worker, Youth Opportunities Program, Employment Link and Housing First. Key elements of this position include organizational support, leadership, coaching and feedback to Program staff & volunteers. Maintain, foster and create positive Community relationships. The Senior Director will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all staff, volunteers and clients. 

 Key Responsibilities

Ensure that quality client services are delivered and meet the needs of the mandated client groups, contractual obligations and organization policies and procedures are met:

·         Develop/monitor annual work plan for the department; participate in development of agency strategic plan as a member of the senior leadership team

·         Ensure that continuous quality plan is implemented and identified problems addressed

·         Complete all reports required by the agency and funding sources

Maintain department staffing consistent with program needs:

·         Provide direct supervision to program coordinators

·         Ensure that all other departmental staff meet job training requirements, have regular supervision and receive probationary and annual performance evaluations

·         Ensure that all personnel files and job descriptions are current and maintained in accordance with procedure

·         Oversee development and implementation of appropriate staff development activities within budget restraints

 Assume a leadership role in marketing/advocacy activities for the department:

·         Attend local interagency and committee meetings as appropriate to the department

·         Maintain membership and attend relevant meetings of regional, provincial and national organizations (such as AAISA).

·         Provide information to community agencies, professionals and clients regarding services available

·         In accordance with the YMCA public relations plan, participate in media interviews and press conferences

 Operate the department within the approved budget:

·         Prepare annual budget for the department and each program

·         Participate in contract negotiations

·         Pursue activities to secure additional funds and partnerships for the programs.

·         Monitor revenues and expenses

 Qualifications

·        A graduate level degree in the area of psychology, social work or relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

·        Level 111 Practitioner certificate from the Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA)

·        Two years or more of supervisory experience

·        An extensive knowledge of immigrant transitions into Canada and the programs services and resources offered by community based organizations and government

·        Experience preparing and monitoring budgets

·        Experience managing government funded programs is an asset

·        Current clear criminal record and vulnerable sector search

·        Current first aid and CPR

·        Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
