It is with heavy hearts that we announce our last show on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 at Sideshow in Columbia, MO. It’s been a strange blur, and the end feels tingly and numb like standing too close to a firecracker and having your ears blown out. Yes, the split was amicable, and I’m sure none of us plan to stop making music in any capacity (I, at least, would freak the fuck out if I had to stop), but this band had run it’s course and it was time to let go.

I want to thank some people:

Barry Hibdon at Red Boots for tracking on our full length album in ’08, Jonathan Fournier for tracking on our EP in ’06, and Scott Moon for our drunken aborted go at the full length in ’07.

All of the venues and venue owners/employees that kept inviting us back – specifically Mr. Sal Nuccio and Big Pants at Eastside Tavern, which always felt like home base to us.

A handful of sister bands – UMBROS/BK, Ptarmigan, Ursus Arctos, Prize Wolf, all past and future incarnations of Pale Family/Makeouts, etc. It was always great to share a bill with you all.

The people who kept coming to see us all these years. This is a strange place and time to be a band.

Our harem of bassists – Erik Moore, Carrie Wade, Clint McMillen, Jarrett Crader, and John-Paul McFarland. It sometimes seemed like Nonreturner was to Spinal Tap what bassists are to drummers, except nobody ever died (that I’m aware of)… a testament to how ridiculous me, M. and L. are to work with. Farmington kids, eh?

Lauren G., Andi K., Anna M., Jessica M. for obvious and in most cases legally and religiously binding reasons. Being married to (or practically married to) someone in a band is probably a sucky experience for the most part.

Zach Scott – I know I speak for at least Logan, Michael, and myself when I say that we always felt like you were in the room. I’m glad you got to see us when you visited that last time and we were in top form.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

-Zach

(a standup troupe of swell gents that typically frequent Eastside Tavern’s “As Yet To Be Named Comedy Night”). We also had the pleasure of hosting the exhibition of two of dear friend A. Lewis’s Plague series of meticulously drawn and colored artwork. Two jumbo prints proudly book-ended the stage.

Thank you to [p33]R0Y for throwing a killer dance party, Hella Go-Go for winding the crowd up tighter than a drumhead (several people had trouble with not dancing around the rest of the night well after the show was over), Circus? for the lulz and WTFs, Kobain in the Membrain for rocking the fuck out (and warming me up on stage and putting up with my laughable bass guitar skills), and Aaron for lending us his spectacular artwork. Also, a million thanks to everybody who came out and danced and rocked out and partied with us.

A side thanks to after-partiers for seriously the most easy morning after cleanup in the history of house parties. There had to have been 100 people pouring out of my living room and into the front yard, but somehow cleanup took me five minutes. Incredible.

Though I will find some reason not to drag myself away from working on it, I think we’ve finally turned nonreturner.com and yardsandgods.com into something both lovely and functional. Each release (or rather the ones we’ve posted, which is the majority of them) has a page where every song can be streamed, and for the price of your email address, you can download entire albums guilt-free. Keep an eye out at Y&G for Burger Kingdom’s new album Shugazi to drop. We’ve got it, and we’re waiting for further details before we make it available. Tonight (or rather, last night) was the first night of their tour. I encourage anyone who can to go out and see them, and score a physical copy of it.

2010 looks like it could be a pretty great year for us as we finally re-assemble in the same town after a miserable lull. We’ve got a bunch of material waiting to be punched up and recorded, and an “every 2 years” precedent to meet on releases.

I want to sincerely thank everyone – bands, show-goers, listeners, friends and family – for their friendship and support over the years. It’s been weird, and great, and hopefully will continue to get better and maybe a little weirder. -Zach
