Hi everybody,

I own a NS4 and would like to know if anybody trief to reproduce / convert the Cinematic Soundbank dedicated to the W2 for the S4. Probably not, but it is worth a question at least.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting and Fixes (Start Here)

Isolate the source: Plug directly into the RCA jack on the harp (bypassing the name rail/preamp, volume/tone knobs, and output jack). Use a shielded cable straight to your amp/interface. If hum drops significantly, the issue is in the front-panel electronics or cabling—not the harp itself.

Check/restore harp grounding:Inspect the aluminum foil tape under the tonebars and pickup mounting tangs. It must make solid electrical contact with the screws and provide continuity to the RCA jack's outer (ground) ring.

Use a multimeter (continuity/ohms mode) to test: Probe from the RCA ground to pickup mounting tangs, tonebar screws, and foil tape. Resistance should be near zero (under 1 ohm). Clean corrosion with fine sandpaper or a scratch brush if needed. Repair/replace damaged foil tape and add jumpers if sections aren't continuous.

Ensure all pickup mounting screws and tonebar screws (at least one per bar) contact the foil.

Ground the damper rail/bar (very common fix):The damper rail (metal bar under the harp that the sustain pedal lifts) and individual damper arms often float electrically and pick up/couple noise into the pickups.

Run a ground wire from a reliable harp ground point (near the RCA or a tonebar screw) to the damper rail. Vintage Vibe sells a simple grounding kit with wire and conductive foil tape specifically for this (works on Rhodes and their own pianos). Apply foil across damper arms if needed and connect to the rail.

Test temporarily with an alligator clip before soldering/permanent install.

Other internal checks:Clean the RCA jack thoroughly (oxide buildup causes issues).
Look for loose or broken wires, especially the curly shielded cable from the harp.
Ensure the entire harp assembly is securely mounted so metal parts contact the frame where intended.

External/System-Level Fixes (If Internal Is Good)Ground loops in your setup: Plug the Rhodes and your amp/mixer/interface into the same power outlet or power conditioner. Use a ground lift on the audio cable (not the power cord—safety risk) or an isolation transformer/hum eliminator (e.g., Ebtech Hum X, or DI box with ground lift).

Move away from interference sources: fluorescent lights, transformers, power supplies, laptops, etc. (Rhodes harps are sensitive).
Shielding: Some add foil tape to the lid interior for extra protection against capacitive coupling.

Safety and TipsWork with the piano unplugged. If you're not comfortable with soldering/multimeter work, take it to a tech familiar with Rhodes (many vintage keyboard specialists exist).

These steps fix the vast majority of Rhodes hum issues based on tech forums and service guides. Start with the damper grounding and direct RCA test—you'll likely hear a big improvement. One comment on the "ugly big hole dust collector" - having used Nords with this ugly dust collector since the '90s spanning numerous Leads, every version of the Stage aside from not yet on the NS4, I have never found any kind of issue with dust collection or otherwise. The pitch stick is different but it is very functional once you get used to using it.

That’s fine if the pitch stick big hole is not a dust collector. That was a little joke
No offense to anybody, but I just don’t like this pitch stick hole neither the corner hole of the Wave 2.
I’d prefer having a pitch wheel with a nice cutting hole like the mod wheel.

Sorry, yes: "If you keep your phones plugged in..." they will always play. And the monitors play as long as they are switched on, of course.

That's exactly what other stage pianos do as well: Even if the Nord Grand looks nice in a home environment, its DNA is derived from the Nord Piano which is stage and studio use.

Some digital pianos will mute their built-in speakers when using headphones. Nord stage keyboards won't do that for they simply don't have built-in speakers. Main-out and phones signal will be active in parallel. So if you keep your speakers plugged in, they will always play as well as the Nord Monitors which are plugged to the main-out.

Do you mean, when the headphones are plugged in? . So if I don't switch on the Nord Monitors, I would hear the sound via my headphones only. If I switch them on, I'd hear it both via the monitor and the headphones. Something like that?

I'm looking to buy the Nord Grand 2, together with the V2 monitors. Because I live in a flat, I sometimes want to play via headphones as well. Is there an option to leave them plugged in and switch between either the headphones or the monitor? Or do you have to unplug the cable each time you want to switch? I took a quick look at the control panel, but I can't see a button that allows you to switch between output channels.

I've been using some form of custom pedalboard now for 35+ years where I have every pedal I need mounted in the most optimal spot for me and it is consistent for every gig, never dealing with pedals moving around etc. Here's a picture of the one I've been using now for 10+ years. Two control pedals, sustain, and Leslie/Vent fast/slow switch.

The DK61 works fine when I have the aux KB set to an organ tone which is how I use it most of the time. But for a few songs/programs I use the aux kb for strings, EP, etc. and it does not sound right. I assume this is because the sensor tech under the keys is different from the Nord.

Hi all

From a performance point of view I like having the Nord on top of the Rhodes, but this induces a significant buzz in the Rhodes audio out. Have tried lining the Rhodes lid with foil, and putting a thick layer of foil under the Nord where the power supply enters, but neither helps much if at all.

Any suggestions - other than moving the Nord off the top of the Rhodes?

Well, I don’t like the stiffness of the pitch stick and its ugly big hole in the panel (what a good dust collector !).

The support for the Triple Pedal is not highlighted as a new feature of the E7. But it’s a valuable addition to the piano experience, making the Electro even more closer to the Piano and the Stage.
I also like the activation of shift functions by long pressing corresponding buttons. It’s a small improvement but so convenient for using the keyboard from one hand.
To sum up, after having owned an Electro 5 and an Electro 6, I really enjoy the Electro 7.

I use a thin slip resistant mat and fix all my pedals (expression, sustain, rotor) with velcro tape on the mat. For transport I roll the mat incl. pedal, no need to remove them. Cables are collected in a common IT spiral hose.

How to make sure that the sustain pedal does not creep away during a concert? I have a regular single pedal (Kurzweil KP-1), there is no way to glue it to the floor, and the stage surfaces are very different (concrete, wood, tiles, carpet), I don’t want to lay a separate carpet either - because... then everything is dirty and dusty from it. Tell me what secrets and life hacks you use. Thank you

Is there any way to edit (on the board) the song mode banks of 5 that when you need to slide a song in, "pushes" the rest up the list?

This is a little confusing, in part because of terminology.

Song mode gives you 8 Banks (not 5), and each Bank has 50 Songs.

Each Song has 5 Parts (each of which is a pointer to a Program).

(I am capitalizing the terms that Nord uses to identify the various elements, to try to make things more clear.)

You can re-order/insert Songs using the Organize feature ericL mentioned. But I don't believe there's a comparable feature for re-organizing/inserting Parts within a Song, if that's what you're trying to do.

Picking up from that, I'll deal with the next part of your post in sections...

What I've been doing to make this possible sans laptop, is when designing song lists I limit the bank to 4 patches...

So if I get this right, what you mean in that italicized bit is that you limit the Song to 4 Parts?

...so in the future, if lead singer wants to roll with the changes before the gig, I can add one in that bank without editing the other 4 or 5 banks for the evening.

Okay, I'm more confused. Starting with the last part of that, when you say "add one in that bank," I think you you mean add one Part to that Song, but then I can't follow the part about "editing the other 4 or 5 banks" -- you mean moving the other 4 or 5 Parts? I think you had been using the word bank to mean Song, but here it seems you're using bank to mean Part? Maybe that was just a mis-type? Or I am completely misunderstanding what you're trying to do and what the problem is... which is not impossible. But continuing with what I *think* we're talking about...

Going back to the first part of that quote, "if lead singer wants to roll with the changes before the gig..." -- Why would a singer ever want to add a new section to a song before a gig? (Presumably a rhetorical question.)

I think maybe you're misunderstanding the whole concept of what Song Mode is really designed for. Typically, each set of 5 parts is for a single song in your set... Part 1 may be the sound you need for the first verse, Part 2 may be the sound you need for the chorus, Part 3 may be a sound you need for a later verse, Part 4 may be a sound you need for a bridge, Part 5 may be the sound you need for your lead. That would be an example of how people would typically use Song Mode.

The singer is not likely to say, "hey, tonight, between the bridge and last verse of the song, let's throw in a verse from some other song entirely," requiring you to suddenly need to insert a new sound into a Song that you've never needed when playing that song before. Since that's highly unlikely, I *think* you mean that the singer wants to add a song between two other songs. That's not generally what Parts are for, that's what Songs are for.

Typically, each song in your set list should correspond to a Song in NS3's Song Mode. A Song can have anywhere from 1 to 5 Parts. It is very common to have a song in your set list for which you need only one Program... in Song mode, the associated Song would have only a single Part. It sounds like maybe you're using 4 or 5 Parts of a Song to hold the sounds for multiple songs in your set list, do I have that right? If so, the solution is simple... stop doing that! Give each song in your set list its own Song in the Nord. If the song only needs 1 or 2 Parts, leave the other 3 or 4 Parts empty. Then you can use Organize mode to re-order your Songs at will, to match whatever changes to your set list that your singer calls for. Just like on Kronos. Which brings me to...

If you're familar with Korg's Kronos, when you are editing it works more like editing in microsoft Word, where you can choose to insert programs between or write over another. This is a much easier method to use just before the gig as is frequently the case.

Kronos' Set List mode is great, but Nord's Organize mode similarly lets you insert Songs between others. You add the Song to the Bank that corresponds to your current working set list, and then use Organize to place it anywhere you want in that Bank (set list), which includes letting you insert it between two other Songs that are already there.

Kronos doesn't really have something that works quite like Song Mode, in that Song Mode lets you link up to 5 Programs together and access them as a unit. The closest Kronos equivalent would probably be to put all the sounds you need for a song together into the same Combi, and use up to 4 KARMA Scenes to access them in different combinations.

Or just get a tablet and use a song/set list maker and then you can swap/add/reorder songs at any time and always have the correct patches without worrying about where they are on your keyboard or what band your playing with or constantly swapping out lists.

If @somersby is about to replace a Nord Piano, a Nord Stage 3 Compact wouldn't be the first solution to come to my mind: A Stage 4 Compact has the triple sensor key action which is reportedly more satisfying for playing piano.

I have no idea if swapping the springs is a good idea in that case, though. I haven't heard of that for the newest generation of Nord gear yet.

It’s worth knowing that you can swap the springs on the semi-weighted Nord Stage and Nord Electro models. There is a particular M-Audio controller that uses the same size springs, but with less tension.

I can’t say it’s the best idea to swap springs in a brand new Stage 4, but I would feel better about it if I had bought a used Stage 3 semi-weighted.
