My setup is a NS3, Yamaha Montage 6 and a PC with Nexus ReFX (VST)

In our band, we play a section of Insomnia by Faithless. For this, I have a great setup programmed on the NS3. In this case, the Yamaha is being used as a MIDI keyboard for Nexus. So with my left hand I play a pad sound from Nexus on the Yamaha, and with my right hand I play the melody on the NS3.

At one point, the melody has to be played across two octaves, which means I can no longer play the Yamaha, so the pad sound drops out. How can I make sure the pad sound keeps playing?

Is there perhaps a way to use the sustain pedal connected to the NS3 together with the External option? The whole setup is connected via MIDI.
Statistics: Posted by matje — Today, 21:38

I got Nord Electro 5D with Neo Ventilator II hammond simulator, and I’m looking for a bass pedal board for bass lines, as the traditional organ-way to play. So I’m considering either Studiologic mp-113 or Crumar Mojo 13, both with 5-pins MIDI support. In Nord forums it seems as Studiologic is the most popular choice for Nord keyboard, often due to a bit more simpel setup. On the other hand AI tells me that Crumar Mojo 13 pedal set gives a better organ feeling, especially when playing hammond. Do anyone have experience with the Crumar Bass pedal board with Nord Electro? Overall, will Studiologic mp-113 work best with Nord electro, or is it just a matter of what sounds you are playing on the keyboard?
Statistics: Posted by Louis123 — Today, 20:12

Hi,

two years later ...

I found this question interesting but no one answered. I am a beginner to sound design (1 year practice) so take my answer for what it's worth.

I tried to design bass guitar sounds on the Korg Minilogue, then the Arturia Minifreak and finally the Nord lead 3 'cause I play with people who like to play pop/rock covers (which I don't but that is not the point).

What I think is great is to add distortion (harmonics) to a dull dark-timbre bass (whatever the waveform is, even FM). On the NL3, using the Dist LP or simply the Dist modulation. For the NLA1, I see ther's a drive encoder. In any case, putting a disto pedal right after your NL would work.

That does the trick for me anyway.

sy-JOX-ah
Statistics: Posted by sy-JOX-ah — Today, 19:58

I was an early adopter of the Vent. Used the first version with a Hammond XK1 in 2013 and it was a massive improvement. Ended up with an Electro 5D and ran that with a Vent II until 2020 when I upgraded to an E6D. After using the E6D for 3 months I sold the Vent and for the last 5 years I've just used the internal sim. The main difference for me was the drive - much better on the Vent. However, with careful EQing you can tame the E6D drive so it's less 'fizzy'. The other issue with the Vent is you are splitting the signal into 2 mono streams. Not much a problem for me but I did miss running the pianos in stereo. You lose pan as well which I liked to used on the Rhodes sample.

The E6 has options for editing acceleration, speed and balance. The Normal settings are fine but I sometimes go with a High acceleration on the horn and Low on the drum and a 40/60 or even 30/70 drum/horn balance.

As someone said earlier the audience will not be able to tell (caveat - assuming you are not playiing in organ centric band, Jimmy Smith trio or similar) and not having to worry about leads and wall wart PSU etc. you can concentrate on playing.

Final thought - although the Vent will improve the sound remember the basic organ is still the Nord engine, which lacks character, for want of a better word. What you might want to think about is using an iPad with B-3X. Still less to carry round than the Vent and you get superb Leslie and 4 really good Hammond models.
Statistics: Posted by vcfvca — Today, 18:11

I'm sure the price of the new E7 has been covered in other posts but has anyone seen dealers with stock of the E6. Anderton's have the E6D 61 at around £1700 while E7 61 is £2069. Now I remember before the E7 was announced that Andertons were selling the E6D 61 for around £1599. So they seem to have put the price up! Seems counter intuitive to me.

As for the current price of an E7... Well I bought my E6D 61 in 2020 for £1300 so in 5/6 years the price to upgrade has risen considerably. To replace it with an E7 will cost me over £700 compared to the price I paid in 2020. Can't be just Nord putting prices up but this level of inflation seems unjustified. In the past I have upgraded the electros 3-> 4 ->5 ->6 usually buying when they were released and then updating 3/4/5 years later. But given these prices I have decided that unless my E6 goes faulty, I'm not going to upgrade this time.

And could the prices go even higher? Processors, RAM etc. are been gobbled up the AI monster and the prediction is all tech is going get more expensive as demand outstrips supply.
Statistics: Posted by vcfvca — Today, 17:38

You would need a 140 sample ( come on Nord lets have some new Reed piano sets) but if you want a different flavour use the Wurlitzer 2 model and use Piano EQ. Select DYNO1 then use Tremelo 2 at the mid position (12 o'clock) which is the correct speed. I also turn on the controller pedal option so I can adjust the depth of the tremelo from the expression pedal. Then Touch = 1 and I don't add anything else, no effects or EQ. If you run this through a valve amp it will add even more character.
Statistics: Posted by vcfvca — Today, 17:10

Hello guys,

I’ve had my Nord Stage 4 88 for a couple of months now and some keys (about 8 in total) have started to produce a mechanical spring-like noise. It sounds like a poorly lubed spring being squeezed. White keys are predominantly affected, with some being quieter and some louder.

The keys work fine and those emitting the sound feel the same as all other keys it‘s just the noise that is very annoying, especially for such an expensive keyboard.

I am a band pianist and am taking the keyboard to practice sessions once every week. I have a professional hard case which I transport it in, however I sometimes put it on its side or upside down.

My question would be whether such a noise is normal after such a short period of time and whether the frequent transportation may have caused it.

Thanks!
Statistics: Posted by mike21 — Today, 12:43

My recommendation: make yourself familiar with your Nord Stage 4 - it is meant to be used as a "hands-on" stage keyboard, not as a preset machine.

This song is very straightforward:
1) a bright piano sound
2) strings (probably best to use two different samples, one with more attack, one with more sustain)
3) a recorder/flute sound for the chorus, layered on top of the piano

just listen to the samples on the nord website, and compare them to the song's sounds.
The more you do, the better you get at differentiating sounds.

https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sounds/sa ... product=20
https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sounds/sa ... egory=2048
Statistics: Posted by MartinJ2EX — Today, 09:11

Problem solved — and it was much simpler than expected!

After all this investigation, the culprit turned out to be purely mechanical.

The M-Audio EX-P has small felt pads on the underside of the pedal platform that act as buffers at each end of the pedal’s travel. One of them — the one at the bottom end — had come unglued. This felt pad is important because it keeps the pedal slightly raised at the minimum position.

Without it, when I released my foot the pedal would drop that extra millimeter and then spring back up, causing a tiny but enough movement for the potentiometer to register a signal variation — which the Nord was picking up as jitter.

The fix: reglue the felt pads back in place. Configuration-wise, the EX-P works perfectly with the Nord Stage 4 set to Yamaha FC7 mode.

So the EX-P is fully compatible with Nord after all — @maxpiano who mentioned it worked fine on his NS3 was absolutely right. My apologies for the “incompatibility” claim!

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.
Statistics: Posted by LUISVL4D — Yesterday, 00:36

I bought both EX-P pedals new but they've been in use for quite some time now, and the same problem occurred after a while on my previous Nord Stage 3 and another Nord Stage 4 Compact as well.
So perhaps the potentiometers have worn out or accumulated dirt over time. I'm going to try cleaning them with contact cleaner and see if that makes a difference.
I'll report back with the results!
Statistics: Posted by LUISVL4D — 27 May 2026, 18:36

You are doing nothing wrong, that's how the ExtKeybToLo works, the section(s) assigned to LO(wer) part Ext are completely isolated from NE5 pedals when ExtKeybToLo is active (only exception being the Organ section, for which the CtrlPedal works for both upper and lower in any case).

EDIT: possible workaround, if your External Keyboard has some MIDI processing and routing capabilities, you may actually send the CtrlPed MIDI CC (11) from NE6 to it (via Global Channel) and then have the external keyboard re-use it when controlling the LO part of NE6 (but as said, this requires a master with good MIDI handling features or... add a computer/tablet in the setup to that MIDI processing job)
Statistics: Posted by maxpiano — 27 May 2026, 16:02

When using the function External keyboard controlling the LO Zone on NE6, I notice that the volume pedal (connected to the control pedal input) don't work on the LO section, which is controlled by the external keyboard. When I use only the NE6 with split keyboard for the same program the pedal affects both zones. Would like both zones to be affected with this setup. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? MIDI something maybe?
Statistics: Posted by Steinitz — 27 May 2026, 14:25

For a millisecond it then shows morph assign Wheel) but allways jumpes back to a state where it is transposed with +1, where i cannot see the relation between the morph and the transpose function, as mentioned i just flashed the factory resert and updated os.

please help me i need the instrument for a upcomming show. One more thing to add, to share how I have personally been using Song mode and I have yet to run out of space for songs across FIVE different bands.

I am in two cover bands that do a variety of songs, some of which overlap with one another, but I find it better to have discrete songs for each band saved in their own banks. One band is called Flat Elvis, so all of my songs are named with "FE" at the start. The other band is The Usual Suspects and these songs start with "US."

I'm in two tribute bands that have very different songs and I have them also saved into their own banks. Clash tribute Clampdown has songs named with "CD" at the start and INXS tribute starts with "NXS" and then the name of the song for all of these.

Finally, I play in an original band that I toured with for a long time and all of those songs are saved into their own bank. Fighting Gravity = "FG" at the start of the name. I start to run short on things like sample memory and program memory, though I have figured out how to manage this.

I use a naming convention for each band's songs when I'm saving them, so if I need to do a bundle upload or find something specific, I can do a search in the sound manager software to find them by unique identifier for each band.

I'll take a screenshot one day when I have it hooked up to show you. I share all of this to provide some additional context on how it is possible to manage many many songs within the memory of the NS3.
Statistics: Posted by ericL — 26 May 2026, 23:33
