Update: Apple iPhone 4S iOS 6.1

Apple has released a new version of its iPhone software that resolves the 3G performance issues that have been affecting users of the iPhone 4S who had installed iOS 6.1. The new iOS 6.1.1 is applicable to all iPhone 4S customers:

Customers who had installed iOS 6.1

Customers can download iOS 6.1.1 from Apple as soon as they can as this will deal with the 3G performance issues. These customers were sent the following SMS yesterday :
Apple has released a new version of its iPhone software that fixes 3G performance issues affecting the iPhone 4s. Please download iOS 6.1.1 from Apple. Thanks

Customers on a previous version of iOS

These customers can also download iOS6.1.1 from Apple and to do so must switch their iPhone 4S on and off, which will prompt iOS 6.1.1 to be installed. This information was sent to iPhone 4S customers who had not yet installed iOS 6.1 yesterday via SMS:
Apple has fixed 3G performance issues with its iPhone 4s software. Please switch your phone off and on then download and install iOS 6.1.1. Thanks

Apple iPhone 4S iOS 6.1 Upgrade

We’re aware of an issue caused by Apple iPhone 4S handsets that have been upgraded to iOS 6.1 which impacts performance on 3G. Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the Internet. Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent. While Apple’s investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4S should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that the problem has been fixed.

Due to the nature of the iOS software fault, if there is a significant number of iPhone 4S handsets connecting to the network in a specific area, this can cause congestion issues for those users as well as the users of other handsets in that area.

We shall update you with more details when available.

The Nortech team are delighted that the charity auction held at Carlisle College in support of Cancer Research was a huge success, and £600 was raised.  We played a small part by donating a fully installed Parrot Hands free car kit.

Do you leave your phone turned on all the time? well a lot of people do. This can be a bit of a problem and an issue which is increasingly prevalent as people become more dependent upon their mobile, their phone can sometimes stop speaking to the network effectively (it stops updating).

This can then manifest as a number of different symptoms e.g. SMS being received late (including voicemail alerts), people going straight to voicemail without the phone even ringing, loss of signal, etc.

This issue can occur on any network. The great news though, is that it is easy to fix (it is also advisable that people should also get their phones to update following any temporary network issues):

• Turn your phone off every 3-4 day days for 10-15 mins.
• Complete a Manual Roam, forcing your phone to update on the network
