New online library guides are currently being created by MDC faculty librarians to organize information and resources for students. These guides cover subjects that complement MDC classes and make accessing subject specific information easier than ever.

Administrative Reorganization in July

Isabel Hernandez was appointed as the College Director of Learning Resources and will supervise Learning Resources at the InterAmerican Campus.

The MDC Learning Resource areas were reorganized with the appointment of a Campus Director to supervise both the campus library and computer courtyard.

Here are the appointments for the new Campus Directors for Learning Resources:
• Estrella Iglesias, North Campus
• Erick Dominicis, Kendall Campus
• Rolando Garcia, Wolfson Campus
• Elisa Abella, Medical Campus
• Linda Saumell, Homestead Campus
• Glenda Phipps, Hialeah Campus

Here are the appointments so far for the position of Associate Director of Learning Resources:

• Isreal Sanchez, MDC-West
• Ivan Toledo, Medical Campus

Our Campus Director for Learning Resources, Estrella Iglesias, also has supervision over the Meek Center and MDC-West. She has been actively working to increase student instruction and library usage as well as focusing our efforts here at the North Campus Library on weeding the collection.

Wilson Science Complete
From Wilson:
Offers the complete content of three science-oriented databases at one time: Applied Science and Technology Full Text, Biological & Agricultural Index Plus, and General Science Full Text can be accessed simultaneously with a single search. Includes full text and abstracts for a wide range of scientific and general interest publications.

The North Campus Library offers these and many more electronic databases for student use. These can be accessed from any Internet computer, even off-campus. All you need is your student ID number; the PIN is the last four digits of that number. Make sure "Miami Dade College" appears in the drop down menu. When in the library, ask the reference librarian how to use the databases, or call the reference desk at 305-237-1183 for assistance.

Spotlight Web Resource: Florida Memory Project

The Florida Memory Project is an invaluable resource to anyone who is interested in researching or learning more about Florida's past.

This comprehensive web site is choc full of Sunshine State information, including many primary sources. It boasts an online classroom, Florida history highlights, online document and music collections, an interactive exhibit tour, and an exhaustive collection of historic Florida photographs from the state archives.

The Florida Memory Project was voted one of the 2008 101 Best Web Sites by Family Tree Magazine and is one of the Recommended Web Sites selected by our very own North Campus librarians.

There's a new search engine out there giving Google some competition. It's Bing, Microsoft's Live Search renamed and repackaged in a sleek, slick design. The new kid on the block aims to give users relevant information quicker, with fewer clicks of the mouse. Unique features include a daily changing background scene of some of the world's most unique places with hidden information links, and the ability to play thumbnail videos by hovering over them.
