It makes sense to use plenty of steel in the right places to give your counter strength.
TX-Dot mesh is a good choice combined with #3 steel on corners and cut outs.
We also add fiber and water reducers, so that the counter will end up strong and dense.

We just finished a court yard in uptown dallas. Our customer had a wooden wall with a fence gate to enter from the street and provide some privacy.
We removed that wooden wall and door and poured a small footer for a CMU block wall.
The wall was build and filled with concrete and then covered with a vertical concrete mix. After completion we installed a custom oak wood door in European Style. The door was custom build in our shop and then installed into the opening of the wall.
We also installed a nice stainless steel handle and automatic door lock for our customer.

Another custom job well done……

We are currently working on another patio cover made out of cedar.
The way we design and build our patio covers or shade covers is that we measure the size at the customers house and bring those back to the shop.
We purchase all lumber needed at a local supply store in McKinney, TX. We generally use 6×6 cedar posts, 2×8 cedar stringers and 2×6 cedar rafters with 2×2 cedar slats.
We always cut decorative ends onto our boards and after inspection stain them prior to installation.
The stringers are mounted onto the posts with 1/2″ all thread galvanized bolts and the nuts on either ends are sunk into the lumber so they don’t stick out.
Depending on our customers individual needs we either install the posts into the ground set into 5500 psi concrete or mount them onto the concrete with Simpson metal shoes.
All posts will have a decorative brace installed that has a decorative cut.
If needed we also install a 12″ brace to be used to mount an exterior ceiling fan onto.
We normally are able to come to your house and install the patio cover or shade structure in 1 day after having prepared it off site at our shop.
We use TWP stains from Plano, TX and have 5 colors to choose from.
