USO of N.C. will collect items for veterans and their families to enjoy at CAPTRUST Tower during the ceremony. Requested donations include food, furniture, small appliances, storage containers, electronics, cleaning supplies and entertainment items.

WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 – Veteran’s Day – Rain or shine
10 – 11 a.m.

Note: Should it rain, the flags will not be flown but the ceremony will continue.

WHERE: Corner of Park and Market Street and Front Street in the North Hills expansion off of Six Forks Road in Raleigh

Coming from I-440 on Six Forks Road, turn right onto Front Street into the new North Hills development. The five, 30-foot flag poles will be on the left outside CAPTRUST Tower.

WHY CARE?

• According to Census 2000 data, more than 13 percent of North Carolina’s population is comprised of veterans.
• Miss North Carolina International Julie Tesh is an avid USO supporter and will participate in the Veteran’s Day ceremony.
• Several employees of Kane Realty Corporation, the developer of North Hills, are former members of the U.S. military and will attend the event.

This month, a significant portion of the $1 billion North Hills expansion begins opening for residents, tenants and guests. The flags will fly outside one of the most recently completed developments, CAPTRUST Tower

The completed North Hills expansion will include:

• 1 million square feet of office space
• 250,000 square feet of retail space
• 1,800 residential units
• 800 hotel rooms
• 3 new parks

Happy Halloween!

Here are some of the activities going on tomorrow here at North Hills.

Halloween Activities

• Arts and Crafts: 8 a.m. to noon
• Pumpkin Painting: 8 a.m. to noon
• Kiddie Costume Contest: 10 a.m.
• Pet Costume Contest: 10 a.m.
• Bluegrass music from Tims Family Band: 10 a.m. to noon
• Trick-or-Treating throughout participating North Hills stores: Noon to 6 p.m.

Smiles Over Raleigh is the first charity event of its kind in the North Hills area — some lucky guests will have the chance to see the lights of Raleigh from a hot air balloon.  And since giving is not without its rewards, the doctors at Renaissance Dental and Hart and Wells Orthodontics are offering discounts on dental or orthodontic treatment for Make-A-Wish^® donors.

The Make-A-Wish^® Foundation works hard to make the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses come true. Stop by on Friday to enjoy a fun family event that helps us give back.

Strides of Fashion is a red carpet event at North Hills that will take place Thursday, October 1st outside Vivace and The Spectacle.  There will be a runway walk from 6:00-6:30pm and models will be wearing couture fashions from Scout & Molly’s and Vermillion. The Spectacle will provide some great eyewear and makeup and hair will be done by Luxe Apothecary and Von Kekel.

Proceeds and donations from the Strides of Fashion event will benefit The American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Research.

After the runway walk, Ed Stephenson will be playing live music from 6:30-9:00pm.

You can reserve a table outside Vivace by calling 787-7747 or you can just show up and hope to find a seat at the bar outside.

Since their original performance here was rained out, The Attractions will be performing at North Hills on Thursday from 6pm-9m.

The Attractions started playing music in 1965 in Burlington, NC. They were inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame in 2001. You can see more about them on their website.

This will be the last Thursday Midtown Music Series event of the year, but you can hear music from some emerging artists this September on Friday nights at North Hills. Click here for the schedule of artists for Friday nights.

The Will McBride Group will be performing THIS FRIDAY at North Hills Commons area, starting at 6:30pm. Boasting a brand new CD “Trifecta”, and being consistently booked for over 50 shows yearly in the area over the last 3 years, The Will McBride Group is a polished group of jazz/funk/pop musicians. If you enjoy jazz-influenced music that satisfies your cool side and moves your backside, The WMG is a MUST SEE. The Midtown Music Series is still going strong at North Hills. This Thursday, starting at 6pm, The Coconut Groove Band will be performing over at the Commons (area in front of the movie theater).

According to the band’s website, they play a variety of different styles ranging from Easy Listening, Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Island Theme, Rock’n'Roll , Funk and more.
