Interim Hours and Holiday Closure

From December 12, 2011 until January 13, 2012, the Music Library will observe the interim schedule of operating hours. During this time, the Music Library will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Music Library will be closed from 4:30 p.m. on December 20 until 8:00 a.m. on January 3.

The Music Library will resume its Spring Semester operating schedule on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

Welcome Sherry Patterson!

The Music Library welcomes Sherry Patterson to its staff in the position of Senior Library Specialist. Sherry will be responsible for circulation, reserves, and day-to-day operations in the Music Library, among other things.

Sherry has worked for the University Libraries for some time, in Reserves Processing, as well as in Information Delivery Services. In addition to being a member of the library staff, Sherry is also a professional artist with Sadilek Studio South in DeKalb.

Thanksgiving Break

New Streaming Audio Databases

The Music Library now offers access to three new streaming audio databases, all products of Alexander Street Press: Classical Music Library (six simultaneous users), Contemporary World Music (three simultaneous users), and Jazz Music Library (three simultaneous users). To access these databases, go to the Music Library's subject LibGuides site at http://libguides.niu.edu/musicresources, and click on "Streaming Audio Databases." If you are off campus, you will have to authenticate to gain access.

In other streaming audio database news, beginning on December 1, ten users will be able to use Naxos Music Library simultaneously, up from the current five.

Music Library resumes Fall schedule

The Music Library is now open according to its Fall Schedule:

*Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m.
*Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
*Saturday, 1:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m.
*Sunday, 1:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m.

The Music Library will be closed Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5 for the Labor Day Holiday.

Library Exhibit on Stravinsky's Petrushka

A new exhibit of library materials featuring Stravinsky's ballet Petrushka was mounted in the Music Library today. The ballet was premiered on June 13, 1911 by Sergey Diaghilev's ballet company, Ballets Russes, in Paris. The ballet depicts a Russian folk tale about puppets and puppeteers.

Please come to the Music Library to see the exhibit. The Music Library holds several editions of the score of the original 1911 version of the ballet, as well as many recordings. You can also connect to Naxos Music Library (either from on campus or via off-campus authentication, if you are affiliated with NIU) to listen to recordings of Petrushka.

Interim Hours

Beginning Monday, August 8, the Music Library will be open from 8 a.m. through 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Music Library will be open those hours Monday, August 8 through Thursday, August 11, and from Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19.

Beginning Monday, August 22, the Music Library will resume its Fall Semester schedule of 8 a.m. through 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., Friday, 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. through 10 p.m. Sunday.

End of Semester and Interim Schedule

The Music Library wishes all students a pleasant end to the Spring semester! We also wish you a safe and happy summer.

The Music Library will be open for its regularly scheduled semester hours through Friday. On Friday, May 13, the Music Library will close at 5 p.m. and will remain closed Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15.

The Interim Schedule will be observed beginning Monday, May 16.

From May 16 through June 3, the Music Library will be open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon and from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

During the week of June 6, the Music Library will be open Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon and from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., and will be closed on Friday, June 10.

Listings contain the name of the foundation, address, telephone number, and if applicable, fax, e-mail, Web addresses, officers, geographical area, and purpose of the foundation.

Northern Star article features Library's DVD collection

The Northern Star featured an article in today's issue entitled, "Library DVD collection caters to all for no charge" by Chris Krapek. This article described the DVD collection on the first floor of Founders Memorial Library. I would like to point out that the NIU Music Library also has a circulating DVD collection on many music related topics, from popular music to opera, jazz, and world music. The Music Library is holding a perpetual sale of used music materials. These items are displayed on a shelf in the entrance to the Music Library. Prices are indicated inside the items. If you would like to purchase an item, please pay for the item in the slot in the Music Library service desk (please use exact change), and give the item to the library employee at the desk to desensitize. Checks are accepted for purchases of $5 or greater, payable to "Friends of NIU Libraries." All proceeds raised from the sale of music materials go to the Friends of NIU Libraries, as part of their ongoing book sale.
