What is NAF about?

NAF’s mission is to promote youth character and leadership development through sports. Many of life’s greatest lessons and are taught by parents, coaches, and volunteers who mentor kids and youth through various athletic programs. 100% of all proceeds from this event will go to support many camps, leagues, and organizations helping to enhance the lives of the future leaders in our community.

Get ready for the biggest and best golf tournament we’ve ever had. This year the tournament will be on Wednesday Sep. 25th at Heritage Golf Links (formerly Celebrity Golf Club International) in Tucker.

Itenerary

For over 60 years, NYO has provided a special environment for the growth and development of our community’s young athletes.  Starting with football in 1948, NYO soon added baseball, basketball, softball & cheerleading. From a few local families, the program grew to 700 kids by 1972.  Through the ’80′s and ’90′s, NYO continued to grow by finding better ways to utilize the park’s fields and facilities. Since then, they have more than doubled in size, and expect nearly 6,000 participants in all sports for 2012-13.  In order to handle these numbers, each year, they have to convert fields from baseball to football and back again; plus, they also now partner with neighboring schools, parks and churches to use 11 off-site fields and 7 different gyms.  In most cases, they make substantial improvements to these off-site facilities, which benefits both the NYO community as well as their partners’ constituents.

NYO remains a volunteer-lead organization, having only one paid administrative employee to support their amazing group of volunteers.

NYO offers one of the country’s highest quality recreational sports programs.  And they give back to the community as well by supporting NYO’s Christopher League, which serves mentally and physically challenged kids, as well as offering Scholarship Programs, which provide assistance for kids that otherwise could not afford to play.

We are very excited of the prospect of getting such a fine group involved to help in our efforts to grow the foundation, to re-energize the Board itself and to provide continuity into the future.

Northside Athletes Foundation (NAF) has made a multi- year commitment to Camp Sunshine to help the lives of children with cancer be restored and strengthened. in 2012, Camp Sunshine conducted over 130 programs in over 143 days, touching the lives of more than 6,000 individuals. Camp Sunshine enriches the lives of Georgia’s children with cancer and their families through year round recreational (sports), educational and support programs.

Camp Sunshine was founded in 1982 by Dorothy Jordan which began as a summer camp. in 2012, they celebrated their 30th annual summer camp. We feel this organization fits perfectly into our goals of helping children through sports and recreational activities.

A couple of years ago NAF was lucky to have Joe Ehrmann (legendary Baltimore Colts defensive lineman) speak about his personal story and coaching philosophy. His philosophy is to use the platform of sports to build boys into “Men For Others”.
