David Lynch forces my video of him making an ass of himself off of YouTube

The David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness Based Education and World Peace made an ass of itself in Berlin in 2007, and it became a very popular YouTube item roaming the internets. Yesterday The Foundation forced YouTube to take it down. Someone called "Raja Lynch" has however posted the video again here. Their notice to YouTube is below.

Denmark and The King of Carrots

Hi!

For those who missed it, I'm moving to Aarhus, Denmark in a couple of weeks! My girl got a Ph.D at Aarhus University! Expect a Berlin Goodbye party soon. How long has it been, 4 years? Sheeesh.

I'm actually going to Denmark tomorrow. First we're going to Tivoli in Copenhagen. Maybe Legoland too?

I'm working on my danish skills. Some of you have probably heard that swedish, danish and norweigian are pretty much all the same. As a reply, I merely give you this video:

On another note, since I haven't blogged in so long, I also give you a nice little music video. I don't think I've ever seen a video closely follow the narrative of the lyrics without becoming tedious - this one might be the first to master it. And it's fan-made in MS Paint nonetheless.

The banana is dying!

It's true! In five to ten years the banana might be all but extinct! I've been in a perpetual state of shock since I found this out yesterday afternoon. Turns out that a new string of the the evil fungus known as the Panama Disease is spreading through Asia, killing off the banana, and it's just a matter of time before it a global banana holocaust is a fact.

This has actually happened before, to the first variant of bananas that was produced and exported worldwide - that banana died in the fifties. It was a larger better tasting banana than the one we know today. The evil banana companies had to conquer more and more land that wasn't contaminated, and the era of repressive Banana Republics began. They eventually started growing the banana we know today, since it was resistant to the disease, however mediocre it was in comparison with it's predecessor.

And now it's happening again. The bananas we eat are all the exact same variant, that's why it's so cheap, all production and cargo ships are the same. And when the disease strikes the whole monoculture dies. There are thousands of varieties of the banana, but they all need different treatment to stay fresh until they reach your little mouth in your non-banana-growing country, and the whole industry is built to fit this one.

So prepare yourself for new banana wars, and a future where you'll have to pay a hefty price for perhaps weird little red or green bananas, or start growing your own.

I just found another nice and amazingly ugly web comic, to create a harmonious magic little triangle of great and ugly web comic pleasure.

The first one I found was the superbly named XKCD:

Escape from New York

Sundays always call for a treat. This one I feasted on John Carpenter's 1981 hit Escape from New York. Things I had forgotten since I last saw it about 10 years ago:

- It starts with terrorists hijacking Airforce One and crashing it into a Manhattan skyscraper
- Isaac Hayes is The Duke
- It has fantastic green wireframe 3D graphics - which were not created with computers, but with models, reflective tape and blacklight
- It had an epic poster, that clearly inspired a little scene in the recent Cloverfield
- The president survives the plane crash in a big orange protective egg

Ok, it's Freaky Coincidence Monday Blog Post.

Tatiana told me about a kickass weird dream she had friday night, where she was eating a rose like an icecream. Nice.

I got a bad cold this weekend, and checked Quicksilverscreen.com for a good movie. Found The Last Man On Earth from 1964, an early film version of I Am Legend. Saw the Will Smith movie of the same name (as the novel) a month ago, and quite liked it. The 1964 version was not bad either, and check out the eyebrows on Vincent Price:

Where Will Smith is hunting deer, Vince is roaming the desert city for ever more garlic and mirrors. Turns out the city (where it was filmed) was Rome, Tatianas home! Nice.

On sunday we had tickets to Bruce LaBruce's new gay zombie movie Otto; or, Up with Dead People, showing at Potsdamer Platz. I was to sick to go though. I stayed at home watching the latest Lost episode, where Sayeed goes to - Potsdamer Platz, Berlin! Taty could just as well have bumped in to him right there.

"Otto" happens to be set in - Berlin. One scene was at the old abandoned theme park in Treptower Park where we were last sunday:

Small recap:

New Years - nice! Alex, Lotta, Clara, Karro & Co, a spectacular joyful swedish infestation in my flat. Tried going to Brandenburger Tor for the fireworks, but it was blocked off and Lotta nearly exploded from almost having to celebrate the new year in front of police barricades. We eventually found a good, satisfyingly dangerous and loud spot though. Then on to punk parties, full nudity and utter obscenities!

New flat - again. Tatis friend Katty hooked me up with a fantastic little 1 room apartment close to the canal in Kreuzberg. I got to do some wonderful culinary shopping at the turkish market just the other day. Fist place of my own in Berlin, and first time outside Prenzlauerberg / Mitte! But probably only until August.

Transmediale. The annual Media Arts Festival. Lots of crap, and some awesome stuff:

Controlling music by holding up strange signs. The best thing was having kids playing electronica by waving footballs and horses.

Trevor Paglen is tracking secret military projects through codenames in the military budget, tracking C.I.A/Guantanamo flights by looking up bogus sounding air companies, and collecting military patches for secret projects - the latin in the one above translates to "Tastes like chicken".
